How To Rid Spam From Your Facebook News Feed

September 27, 2012 | By Adrienne Smith

Facebook News FeedThere really isn’t a nice way to talk about spam.  Not the kind that we all despise online.

Spam comes in many forms these days but when it comes to Facebook, I consider that to be any unwanted stuff I just don’t care to see.

Because we become friends with so many different people online we can’t always know what they’ll share.  If you’re here to make money online and you’re brand new then you’ve been taught to spam the heck out of everyone’s walls with your ads.

You send unwanted friend requests, we get added to groups without our permission, we get poked, sent game requests and hear about all this crap that’s either going on in your life or how you feel about certain issues.

That’s all fine and dandy guys but I personally just don’t want to hear it.

I’ve found a tool that will rid spam from your Facebook news feed once and for all.  Want to find out how?  Check out my video…

Well, hope you found this helpful and let me know if you’re running over to download it now!  I bet you can’t wait to block out all that crap.  It’s been so much better now on Facebook since I don’t have to worry about all that unwanted stuff showing up in my feed.

I’m eager to hear your comment and what you think of this little gem.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.  Be sure to share it with your friends now.  I have a feeling there are a lot of people who will be eager to learn about this service.

Oh and by the way, it’s 100% safe to use.  Okay, it is at this very moment at least.

Have a great day and talk to you soon.

Wow Adrienne!

This surely seems like the perfect answer we all need for Facebook!

I had never heard about FBPurity that sounds like the perfect tool to get rid of all kind of spam from our news feeds. And aren’t we all troubled by the list of things that keep coming up – most of which are what we really don’t like to see, yet we have to because we have no way to get rid of them. Yes, we can lessen a few things from or settings, but not as much as this tool says.

I am just going to head over and check it out too. It does sound something I can use, especially for taking care of games, pokes, chats, ticker, and so many other distractions that tends to grab your attention and take much of your time.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful tool with all of us. :)

Hey Harleena,

Yeah, I was hoping you’d be happy with this one. I sure am.

Social media would be a lot more enjoyable if we could just see what our friends are saying about things we care to know about. This little tool will cut out all the chatter so we don’t have to worry about seeing anything we don’t want to.

Have fun with it Harleena and thanks for your comment.

Thanks Adrienne, that’s SO useful to know! Like you, some people drive me bonkers on FB! And I’m not surprised FB doesn’t like it – it sort of cuts off the ground right under their business model (which consists in turning all of us into advertisers everytime we say we like something…) I wonder though what they could do to get back at you for using this neat little app. Cut you out of FB, pull down your page?

You are so very welcome and I agree.

It’s a great tool and I love it. I can now just cut out everything I don’t want to see. Personally, I think Facebook should back this little gem. They’re keeping us on their site aren’t they? But this way it’s a much more enjoyable experience for us. So we aren’t clicking on the ads and making them more money. I’ve never paid attention to them anyway and have never clicked on an ad. I would think they would be happy. Guess we’ll see.

Adrienne, I couldn’t agree with you more, I’ve never clicked on any of their ads either. Which of course raises the question: how can they ever make money? Wall Street has valued FB in the billions because everyone thinks they’re sitting on the world’s biggest pile of information and information is money (and power!) But if they can’t use it? That’s why FB’s future may not be as rosy (in economic terms) as Wall Street (and Mark Zuckenberg for that matter) think and hope!

Obviously there are a lot of people clicking on those ads or they wouldn’t be able to continue giving us access to their site for free. They’re making absurd amounts of money from ads. They’re just not making it from us.

I guess we will see what the future holds right!

Hey Adrienne, I remember that Kimberly Castleberry recommended to use this plugin to get rid of all those damn game requests.

I didn’t install this because after I openly complained and said I was going to start blocking and unfriending people, I stopped receiving messages so I guess people actually pay attention to messages like these.

However, I had a few ones that decided to keep sending game requests so I just gave them the BOOT.

Zero explanations or further warnings, just a real strong kick in the rear and sayonara my friend.

Thanks for the reminder on purity though, I will definitely use it if I have to. ;-)

Hey Sergio,

Ah Kimberly recommends this one too! That’s great to hear because she knows about all the great ones.

My friends are pretty good actually on Facebook but I get tired of seeing some of the things they post. I don’t get as many game requests as I use to and each time I do I just block that app. I’ve got pages of those things blocked.

But I’m tired of all the chatter about the elections and how I can lose weight. Whenever someone starts sharing information about a certain topic I don’t want to hear, I just type that word in and it’s blocked. Yay!!!

Really easy but glad you were able to rectify that situation. I appreciate Linda sharing this with us in her post though so thank you for checking it out again.

I can’t imagine you getting any traffic from Facebook if you just automate everything. Most people will ignore automated tweets to Facebook because they know the person isn’t actually on the site itself. This will definitely cut out all that chatter and make it an enjoyable place to be again.

Hope you check it out!

Great stuff Adirenne,

I really don’t care for people trying to spam or sell me on facebook, it can be quite annoying, and that’s something that will increase with the amount of friends we have of course.

I have about 5 times more friends than I used to only less than a year ago, because I was simple not using facebook, but as the number grows I see more spams for sure.

I will certainly use this, Adrienne. Thanks for this :)

I did because I thought I had no choice. I think with the election of a new president this year, I’m about fed up with all the crap people post. Then there are those weight loss people sharing their shake recipes and all the pictures of the before and after shots. It’s kind of insulting when someone tried to push that on you without even knowing anything about you. I just prefer getting rid of all that stuff once and for all.

The news feed will only show posts of people who you have friended. So anyone who you have accepted a friendship from, what they post will show up in your news feed. Since I use my personal profile to connect with a lot of bloggers, they are also affiliate, internet and network marketers so they can’t help themselves but share with us what they do. Oh and with the election coming up, my oh my…

Now, if they add those words to an image we’re kind of screwed. Hopefully that won’t be the case though. Hey that’s okay though, I’ll just unfriend them.

Hello Adrienne,

I only care about people who are creative, I listen to people when they have something important, something useful to say. I listen to them when they link me to others who are doing the same. I do not listen to people who ramble on about themselves, or who waste our times, or who are dramatic. I really hate these people because they waste our valuable time.

But classifying these types of people on the start is not possible so we end up on connecting anyhow, and after that we realize they are annoying us with useless garbage. So we search for a way to stop getting updates from them.

You solved my problem as well as saved my effort for searching the tool. So a big thank for that. And I must say your video was quite good and easy to understand. Thanks for sharing. :)

Hi Romy,

There are some awesome people on Facebook that I think very highly of as people. But because they are, they have strong opinions about certain topics. Those just might be topics I don’t care to hear about because like them, I have my own opinions and I don’t need convincing or listen to them ranting because of their passion.

There are people who I really like that are just starting out so they’re promoting their stuff in their news feed and eventually they’ll learn that’s not okay.

With this cool tool, we can stop seeing those types of things so to me it’s not necessarily that these people don’t have anything important to say, they just get carried away at times.

Glad this tool is something you’ll be using as well so have fun setting it up. I appreciate your comment Romy.

Weeee! Thanks Adrienne, I hope those guys are giving you a commission because I for one am downloading it. I only want it for the games invitations as nothing else bothers me too much but that alone handles 90% of what I don’t like about Facebook. :)

Nah, it’s free Roz so we should be paying them and I do believe they take donations (hint, hint)…

That alone is worth the time so happy to hear you’ll be uploading that one and finally stopping those darn invitations.

Thanks for sharing that with me.

Oh, Yes. All the FB spam – it just wastes our time and not let us focus on things that we have to do – like socialize with others, which is what FB is for.

Like you mentioned in the video, there are some things like politics that I need to “see” in my timeline.

I have used FB purity in the past, but removed it when it began to hide stories that I needed (especially, stories related to blogging).

Seems like the tool has got many upgrades since then.

Appreciate the share, Adrienne. Thank you :) (Seems like you are focus more on Video blogging these days. How is it working out?)

Ah, so you use to use it too Jeevan. Yeah, they’ve definitely done some improving I must admit and it’s been working like a charm. It shouldn’t hide anything that you don’t want it to so give this one a go and see how it works now.

I’ve been way behind on doing more videos so it’s just much easier having me walk you through doing something then people freaking out because they’re not sure what to do. That’s how I prefer to learn too.

Thanks for commenting.

My news feed is okay not that annoying. I’ll tell you what I see on my news feed everyday, Updates about Liverpool Football Club, posts from you and a few carefully chosen online friends and of course real life friends. I don’t get much spam, so I won’t need it I guess but your tutorial was really helpful – a trace of spam and I’ll be using it.

Thanks for taking the time for this tutorial :)

That’s wonderful news Aditya, happy to hear that you don’t have a lot of spam in your news feed or even just people chatting about topics you aren’t interested in. Guess you don’t have a lot of marketers spare their wares with you. Good for you, you have a good handle on your friends.

Thanks for sharing that you and you have a wonderful week. It’s upon us soon.

Hi Adrienne! Fantastic video my friend. I think loads of people will take advantage of F. B. Purity now. I might even give it a try.

Most of the time I ignore those game requests and I think I even blocked a few of them in the past. But this is an even better solution. Thank you so much.

Hi Ileane,

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. I wanted to make it simple and easy to understand. I forget sometimes once I’ve downloaded something what all was involved because you know I have to test things out myself first.

I think for me, the game requests aren’t even my biggest pet peeve anymore because I rarely get requests for those now. A few will slip through. It’s all that other chatter that people get so passionate about sharing that I don’t want to see. Happy their so passionate, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t feel their passion ya know!

Thanks for putting in your two cents Ileane. Hope you like it.

I am tired of the FB spam so I just installed FB Purity. I hope it does work as good as you say. This app has some very cool filters plus the custom filter.

Thanks!

Interesting, I never heard of this. Spam is annoying whether its email or Twitter or Facebook. I am a spam-deleting machine. I report it all the time. The apps are the worst offenders and I block every single one. All the games, calendars, horoscopes, whatever. Part of the “junk” also comes as these “sponsored stories” that pop up every time someone you know likes a page. Then Facebook thinks you should like it, too. Argh! That’s why I don’t spend much time on Facebook. This tool looks nifty. I have to check it out. Thanks for the wrapup!

I hear ya Carol, spam is spam no matter where it is. I report it too if someone spam my inbox or wall. Oh yeah, I’m not bashful at all so they do enough of that and they’ll regret that quickly.

I really like this tool myself. I know as Oliver had stated that it blocks all apps but to be honest with you, if you are automatically posting to Facebook then obviously I don’t need to see it anyway. I don’t auto post anything on Facebook so I’m okay with that. My wall is so much cleaner and I love it.

Thanks for your comment and if you decide to use it, let me know what you think. Would love to hear it.

My pleasure and glad you made it by. I had actually used this service a while back but boy, they’ve made some improvements I would say.

My stream is so much more enjoyable too. Thanks for that reminder of this and how much better it’s gotten. You’re a life saver girl.

Hi Adrienne!

Thanks for sharing this little nugget. I know most of the time I find it daunting to go onto Facebook and Twitter because of all the spam. It gets so tiring having to sift through it all. I’m downloading FBPurity as soon as I’m done with this post!

Thanks again,
Jess

Hi Jess,

Good for you, load this one up and get rid of at least the spam from Facebook. I just put my Twitter followers in lists and then pay close attention to only some lists. That way, I don’t have to see it all. Just a thought! ;-)

Enjoy this tool.

So are so welcome Liz and I agree. Facebook was a place I wasn’t enjoying as much because of all the junk people were posting. I’m sure they meant well but I’d just rather not hear about it. This solved my problem instantly.

Enjoy!

We all have certain friends who add nothing to our Facebook experience, and even wreck that experience. And yet the standard filtering options are limited to say the least. Unfriending is a no no, and hiding their messages completely might mean that you miss out on worthwhile big news. Something newsworthy.

I truly believe there will come a time when FB goes subscription based. That will definitely cut out the spam. Now we are upto a billion user, that day might come sooner rather than later. But the major issue for me wouldn’t be cost, one or two dollars a month, I would pay it. But it is the security of my payment details, and the fact that FB suddenly becomes a viable criminal target.

Hi Chloe,

Oh girl, I have unfriended so many people and when they send me a message wanting to get back in I let them know why I deleted them in the first place. I don’t have time for all of that nonsense and if I’m going to friend you on Facebook it’s because I want to be your friend. That means connections, actually speaking to me you know! I don’t want to just be another number.

Who knows where Facebook will go from here and only time will tell. I very seriously doubt they will ever go subscription based mainly because they are apparently making a killing from their advertising and they’re making it more and more attractive for people to spend money through their service. They’ll continue to improve that I’m sure. But then again, I’m not big in that area either so I really am just thinking out loud.

Thanks Chloe for sharing that. Welcome to my blog and hope you enjoyed my post.

I didn’t know about this, yet alone a program that wasn’t just an app from Facebook. I don’t mind some stuff, but knowing I can block out what I don’t want is always nice. That’s where Facebook needs to give us more control within our own settings to only see what we want to see.

The games are a complete annoyance for me and I delete mine own off my timeline because I can’t stand them myself, so having something in place to help hide it is a blessing in disguise. Thanks for the video and I have it on my Facebook page too!

I agree, I wish Facebook would give us control with these types of things but since they don’t and if they want to keep me happy while there, this cool extension does the job for me. I love it. I’m spoiled now.

You are so very welcome and glad I was able to introduce you to something you’ll find very helpful.

Thanks Sonia and enjoy what’s left of your weekend.

You are lucky Cynthia so that means you’ve got a lot of really cool friends that don’t share a lot of junk. I guess the ads don’t bother you? I hate seeing those things in the sidebar along with all those other notices that I’ve been poked. Really!

Thanks for sharing this and dropping by today.

Have a great week.
