My Holy Water Came Too Late

January 24, 2013 | By Adrienne Smith

Oh yeah, it’s true.  I am now the proud owner of a bottle of holy water.

Now don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a post on religion. That and politics are two subjects you’ll never see me writing about.  People can get just nasty when it comes to those and to me, they just aren’t debatable.

So what’s up with the holy water and what the heck are you talking about!  Ah, the million dollar question.

Okay, here’s what happened.

My Nephew, The World Traveler

Last Saturday, January 19th, our family gathered together at my brothers house for our belated Christmas celebration.  You see, my nephew works on a cruise ship and has for the past three years.  So he has missed the holiday celebrations since he started but that’s okay.  We wait until he returns because it is all about family anyway!

On his last run he went to Greece, Israel and Turkey.  His last leg was back to the Caribbean.  So I open my Christmas gifts from him and he brought me this gorgeous handmade bowl from Turkey and a bottle of holy water from Israel.  Yep, they dipped it out of the stream themselves and it’s still cold to the touch.

Why The Holy Water Came Too Late

Without boring you to death with my long drawn out story I’ll do my best to shorten this up.  Stop laughing!

Most of you know that last week was pure hell for my poor blog.  You might have been one of those that received that dreaded page that said “error establishing a database connection” or the darn page wouldn’t load or it timed out on you and you lost your comment.  Urggggggggg

I can actually say that it was the week from hell.  If only the holy water had been in my hands during that week instead of my nephews.

Hey, I like to think that it’s something pretty special and it now sits on my cabinet right beside my desk as it shows in the picture above.  I’m expecting smooth sailing from here guys.

Okay, back to my story.

So my blogging issues have actually been taking place for a little over a month now.  I still love my hosting service, Bluehost, but it’s hell when every time you call for help someone is telling you something different.  Talk about frustrating.

So I eventually learned that the problem was in my database but I didn’t have a clue how to fix it.  So what did I do?

I reached out to my buddy Ashvini Saxena!

Ashvini Saved My Blog

Here I go again, sounding like a broken record but had I not built a relationship with Ashvini I would not have been able to call him for help.

No, he doesn’t do technical stuff for a living.  Ashvini is a business owner and works from home like many of us do.  He just happens to also be a very intelligent guy who knows all this technical jargon that’s way over my head.  He’s so smart he’s even created two plug-ins and boy are they cool.

So I emailed him, told him what was going on and bless his heart, he stuck with it until he was able to find the culprit.  Know what it was?

My CommentLuv Premium plug-in.

Now this is no fault of Andy’s either really.  I sort of understand now what happened so without confusing you too much I’ll just tell you that because he was using WordPress’s functionality and it wasn’t optimized it was causing my database to make thousands upon thousands of attempts to retrieve the records it was searching for.

Most people don’t have as many comments as I do so it wasn’t an issue for you, yet!  It was all in the settings so it just needed to be adjusted.

I sent Andy the information Ashvini gave me, Andy updated it for the beta testers to check it out and then he’ll release another updated version once we’ve thoroughly tested it.  My problem has been solved!  Can you say hallelujah!!!

Bluehost Loves Me Again

Man oh man, Bluehost shut my blog down twice because of this.  Now I can totally understand why they did that because with those thousands of searches each time someone left a comment it was dragging their servers down and all those other people who shared one with me.

Can you imagine someone doing that to you?  I’d be pissed and I was too because it took all this time to hunt down the issue but it’s all fixed and they love me again.  Yay!!!

Who Do You Have To Call

Do you have an Ashvini?  Do you have someone you can reach out to when problems arise that you can ask for help?  Have you built up those relationships with other so you can email, call, Skype of do a Google Hangout when you need support?

I do, I have several people now but thank goodness I have a friend in Ashvini who was knowledgeable enough to search my site and find the culprit.

Start building those relationships because this is yet another perfect example of a time in need.  It’s going to happen to everyone, it’s just inevitable.  Have those people you can reach out to when it does.  Problems happen, they are out of our control.

So thank you so much Ashvini for your generosity and support during this time to stick with me and help me get this issue resolved.  I swear, you are my Godsend.  Now let’s hope that holy water does the trick and I never have another issue.  LOL!!!

So tell me guys, do you have an Ashvini?  I would love to hear all about your support network oh and don’t forget to share my post.  Who knows, maybe this one will inspire others to start building those relationships too!

You know I’m HUGE on that!

Me too Chrysta! You know it can be so frustrating when people are talking over your head and you have no idea what the heck they’re talking about. Thank goodness I have Ashvini that I can reach out to and he’s patient with me because he knows I don’t understand all of this but trust me, it’s been a huge lesson.

Thank you so much and it’s great to see you young lady. You have a fabulous week too! I most definitely will.

I had a problem too accessing your blog last week, Adrienne and I’m glad it’s fixed. I liked the message of this post. Your ‘story’ made me recall the famous one about Charlie Plumb, the war veteran and his parachute packer. Not only is it important for us to create a wonderful network of friends we can fall back on, it’s important for us to thank them for being there, isn’t it?
I’m so glad you have your Ashvini. :)

I’m SO sorry for all that stuff that happened last week Corinne but I so appreciate everyone’s patience and their dedication to keep coming back by to read my post and leave a comment.

You are right, I remember that story as well and thank God we have those friends. I told Ashvini that his wife is going to get jealous with this woman over here thinking the world of him. Not only for what he helped me with but he’s just a great guy all around.

Thank you so much, you are a sweetie! :-)

Some people are surely God-sent Adrienne!

Ashvini where are you? :)

I know the time when even Carolyn had a problem with her blog and that’s when I had first met Ashvini online, and yes indeed, some people are sheer genius when it comes to tech stuff. I am so glad your blog issues are resolved now, and yes, it must be due to the Holy water (what a sweet picture and it’s in that cute bottle). I guess there was some kind of a learning even in the wait period you had to undergo, or perhaps He was testing your patience and sending over help (Ashvini), and His holy water – isn’t it? Everything happens when the time is right as they say. :)

I was also wondering as to why the Commentluv wasn’t working in the earlier post, but understood that there must be some issues with the blog or hosting people. Happy for you that it’s all solved now. I guess all of us have similar issues off and on, but then with time and patience they get alright too.

Nice to know that your nephew is back after a long time, and yes, I remember you mentioning in your Christmas post that you’d be celebrating once he is back – so hope you all had a nice time and family gathering.

Thanks for sharing more of you with us. :)

They most definitely are Harleena! They most definitely are. :-)

Ashvini has been a Godsend to both Carolyn and I. Little did he know he was inheriting us both! I know he loves us!

I thought a lot about that Harleena and I felt it was a huge lesson on patience and practicing what I preach. He tested me big time but I honestly believe I passed the test. I didn’t even yell at the people in support but explained my frustration with getting a different answer each time and two of them went out of their way to help me in ways they aren’t suppose to. Because of their sheer dedication I was able to hunt down the area this was happening and then I had my hero step in and start researching. I do believe it happened for a reason and we also helped Andy with this issue with his plug-in.

I had to deactivate CommentLuv for awhile because it was the issue. I was devastated when I learned it was the culprit because you know it’s my all time favorite plug-in and I love sharing the love with my readers.

I’m SO glad he’s home and then next month his parents and I will all be attending the Valentine’s dance near their home. My nephew is my date and we had so much fun last year. So I’ll go spend the night with them and we’ll just have a good time.

Thank you Harleena for sharing this with me and for reminding me of the lesson I had to learn from this. I so appreciate Ashvini so much that I’m shouting it to the world. :-)

I think Adrienne is really kind to call me a genius. I am not a genius at all :) . It was all because of team work with Adrienne and Andy and it worked wonders. Isn’t that cool :) ?

Hi Adrienne,

I have no words to thank you for this appreciation. All I did was to help my dear friend a little bit :) . It was a great team work and I enjoyed that challenge every bit. It was a hard problem to find and since we didn’t have tools to investigate ( we are on shared server), we needed to do something innovative to get to the root of it. It was fun and also it was tense. I say your timely support with emails also made sure that I got the inputs that were needed.
I feel that relationships happen when both sides are in complete tune with each other. We were in tune :) and that is why it got resolved. I am really happy that your blog is performing great now. I am always there to help if you or your readers/blogger friends suffer any problem. Just tell them to drop me a mail :) . I will do my best .
Thanks once again for all the wonderful appreciation and have a great day.

You helped me out tremendously and I’m so glad you find these things a challenge for you. I understand what you mean because I do that too in some areas. I’m just so happy you stuck with me and found where the problem is. You are the ONLY person I trust to access not only my blog but my hosting account too!

We are definitely in tune with each other aren’t we! ;-) I just appreciate your perseverance in not backing down from a challenging situation, one you really didn’t have to get involved in.

That is so kind of you Ashvini and you better watch out. You might get overloaded with requests.

Thank YOU again for all that you’ve done for me and for sharing your friendship and talents with my friends and readers. Ashvini, you are definitely a Godsend and I love you dearly!

You have a great ending to your week and a fabulous weekend. Tell your wife I said hey!

I love happy endings. So glad you have Ashvini and of course the holy water!
They both came to your rescue in the nick of time.
I too am hosted with Blue Host and I think they are great but I have not had (knock on wood) problems so far with my young blog.
It’s good that Ashvini came to the rescue. I do remember it all started with your update to comment luv and it’s funny you crashed comment luv! Bet Andy never had that happen before.
We all knew you were in a category by yourself!
Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration.

Hi Tonya,

I do too and after the month and a half I had, this ending was definitely a happy one! You’re right too, now I have a double whammy. I still have Ashvini but now I have the holy water. It doesn’t get much better then that.

I love Bluehost Tonya and for over four years I never had any issues either. They’ve always been so helpful but with this experience I learned that when you call support about this issue, there’s another department that knows so much more.

Andy was so thankful to Ashvini too for finding this problem because he would have started to receive a lot more complaints then just me but he was a real trooper about it too and offered his help.

I’ll definitely take that as a compliment Tonya, I’m in a category by myself! ;-)

Thank you so much and for your lovely comment. It’s greatly appreciated.

Have an awesome day!

Hello Adrienne I glad you got it all sorted out. CommentLuv is great and I was also thinking of upgrading. It’s nice to have someone that could help you got it all fix.

Most of the tIme if my blog runs into any trouble I look at the last thing I did like adding new plugins and can pin point were the problem is coming from.

Thank so much for sharing you article with us it’s. Always a pleasure.

Hey Rob,

I highly recommend CommentLuv Premium Rob, still do. Andy goes above and beyond to help you with any issues with his plug-in but this particular one was the combining of WordPress meets CommentLuv.

I deactivated all of my plug-ins a couple of times but I hadn’t added anything new. Sure, there were updates so I started with them but I was still having that issue which is why it was so hard to pinpoint. Ashvini stuck it out though, thank goodness.

My pleasure and thank you Rob for your comment. I always appreciate it. Now, enjoy your day!

Hello Adrienne, I’m glad you got it fixed I know how that feels.

I wrote an article a few weeks ago about installing unstable plug-ins, this is a common problem when we choose to install so many plug-ins because we risk the chance of having conflicts with other plug-ins we have installed.

About two months ago I was having all kind of problems editing, I could not save my work for the life of me, anytime I made changes it would not allow me to safe those changes..

I finally figured it had to be one of the plug-ins I had installed, well I started to deactivate each and everyone one to find out which one was causing the problem.

After working on it for a few hours, I found out which one was causing the problem and just removed it, everything is working just fine now.

Now when I install any plug-ins I will monitor it for a few days and if it’s ok I will leave it as is. But! I have limited my self, to have many plug-ins I use now and I will only use what I need nothing more.

Glad you for it all fixed my friend. Talk to you soon.

Hey Rob,

Thank you and I’m sorry you’ve had your own horror stories!

That’s why I don’t have a ton of plug-ins Rob. I hadn’t installed any new ones in quite some time but I did install one per my hosting service’s suggestion although I knew that wasn’t the culprit. I went through the whole thing too but it still didn’t stop it when I uninstalled CommentLuv. Not sure why because I don’t understand that stuff but it eventually slowed it down. Once Andy made those changes is when it stopped altogether.

I try my best to add a code instead of a plug-in it at all possible. I know they are easier to go that route but just like you, they can cause a lot of problems with your blog too. Then you have to spend the time to local which one it is.

Thanks Rob and I’ll definitely talk to you soon.

I would say we all need to send Ashvini a big Thank-You, you included because thanks to you both, the rest of us will benefit from your hellish week.

It sounds like it won’t be long before we see a CommentLuv Plugin update which is going to prevent us all from going through a week like you just had.

Thanks for the great reminder Adrienne on the importance of building relationships! Just from being here the last month I have met so many wonderful people and started building new friendships.
Have a great rest of the week!

You will be getting another update on CommentLuv very soon and so far I haven’t had anymore issues so I think that it has been resolved. Andy jumped right on it.

That’s right Richard, this is the importance of building relationships. Heck, Ashvini has even offered to help my friends and readers should they run into any issues with something. Now that’s what I call going above and beyond because he knows I have cool friends. I’m so glad you’ve met a lot of people from visiting my blog Richard. I recently noticed that CL plugin has disappeared from your site when I was reading one of your articles. Yesterday, when I came back, everything was fine. I don’t know about BlueHost, but I’ve been a happy customer of HostGator which never let my site go down.

I really have a lot to learn from you. When I first saw the title, I thought this is going to be some personal stuff. But you have amazingly shifted the topic from your family to blogging and relationship. It is you, who taught me the value of having good realationships as a blogger.

Thanks a ton.

Thank you Koundeenya!

My nephew, in the three years he’s been doing this, has now traveled almost all over the world. In his second year alone be was able to get on a cruise leg that most people work their entire lives to get on. He’s a very outgoing kid and big people person like me. He’s so much fun to be around and loves his job. I envy him but am so glad he’s able to experience life like this at his age. Not many people are able to do that.

Yeah, I had to deactivate CommentLuv several times while trying to pinpoint the problem. Just glad things are back to normal now but I’m so sorry for some of the links disappearing.

For the most part things should run real smoothly but when your site is the reason for their servers to get overloaded then they will shut your blog down. Even with Hostgator, it’s in their terms of service agreement. Most of the time we aren’t aware that this issue is ours until they send you the nasty email and threaten you. I hope that never happens to you Koundeenya!

Surprise! I couldn’t help myself with the title. I mean I did just get some holy water so I thought why not tie that in because I wanted to thank Ashvini again publicly for his dedication in resolving my issue.

My pleasure Koundeenya and thank you for your comment.

Hi Adrienne
We all need an Ashvini now and again, and of course the holy water helped. I too had problems last week commenting here, I knew you were having some sort of problems and that you would get it fixed. Boy it must have been a nightmare for you, like you say you had built up such a great relationship with Ashvini that you could call to him for help, we are all saying to people that you have to build up relationships and you have been a great example here.
My husband is techie minded but I am not sure he could have fixed this problem, I do call on him from time to time when I cannot do a certain thing myself (I do like to try and do it myself first but there are times when I admit defeat) and he can fix it most of the time so I am lucky.
I am glad you got it all sorted and you can relax again. Have a great time with your nephew at the Valentines Ball next month :)

I saw the title of this post and thought WHAT? am i in the wrong place today?

I do and I don’t have an Asvini. It’s my hubby but I need to get one another one. Not another hubby. I recently found my own Asvini to help out with installing some email newsletter stuff on my site. I had to switch over to Aweber. I can do it myself but decided to let someone else do it in under 2 hours where it would have taken me probably 4 times as long.

I think it’s smart to make those connections Adrienne. you can get the help you need and focus on your core strengths for your blog and let someone else handle the the rest.

LOL!!! Yeah, I couldn’t help myself Annie. I was trying to think of a decent headline and then it hit me about my holy water. Surprise!

I have no one in my immediate close circle that could have helped me with this. My brother would have been the first person I thought of but he isn’t exactly that kind of help. He knows computers but he doesn’t know WordPress or databases like this. But because of the relationship I’ve had with Ashvini for probably a couple years now, I knew that if he couldn’t fix the problem he could point me to someone that could help that he trusted.

You’re right Annie, it’s important to make these types of connections. Leave them to someone who knows this stuff but then when they need your help and support in other ways, you’ll definitely be there for them.

Thanks Annie and hope you guys are doing well.

Adrienne, I feel your pain! I hate dealing with technical glitches and sometimes you can sit there for hours tinkering around trying to figure it out. In the meantime you’re in a panic because your blog is your life! That’s one of the reasons I am so completely obsessive about our hosting, our backups and our tech support. I never want to be on the phone like you were. I’ve been there before and it’s so frustrating.

Well, I’m glad that all got worked out. See, you got to be a test case with all your billions of comments :)

I love the story about calling Asvini. It’s the perfect example of how building your relationships can help you out. If you have a good relationship with someone, they are always willing to help. It’s nice to know you aren’t always relying on some phone queue and that you have a friend to help.

More proof of what you always teach! It’s all about the relationships :)

Hey Carol,

Man, I’m sorry you’ve been there before and you’re right! My blog is my LIFE and I was helpless. I understand that my hosting support isn’t responsible for repairing things on my blog but if you’re like me and don’t have a clue what the problem is then it’s like you’re living in a nightmare and you can’t wake up.

I know, this is when they kept telling me that because I do have so many comments it’s hurting me more then helping me. But, because I do have so many luckily this didn’t affect anyone else yet.

Ashvini is actually the first person that came to mind when I started having these major issues because I knew that he would try to resolve the problem for me. He was bound and determined to find the culprit and put an end to this. I swear he was on this about a week and I’m talking a full seven days. It was really hard to track down but I’m blessed I had him in my corner.

More proof is right girl to build those relationships because there are areas that we aren’t familiar with and we need someone to help.

Thank you Carol for your comment, I appreciate it.

Hi Adrienne, Yes, I have an Ashvini. His name is Ashvini! Yes, Ashvini is solely responsible for getting The Wonder of Tech up and running again. He worked with me for about a month last year to get everything going again. He is not only a genius, he is a very patient and generous man. What a wonderful combination to have in a friend!

Last April I was pretty much where you were, for a different reason. Ashvini rolled up his sleeves, dug in and figured out the issues. He worked tirelessly with me until The Wonder of Tech was back up and better than ever!

I know how unsettling it can be when you are having problems with your site. You long for the days when the only issues you had were writing articles and responding to comments.

I agree with you not only about Ashvini but also CommentLuv. It really is my favorite commenting system. It rewards commenters and helps spread the word about posts. I’m so glad that Ashvini was not only able to help you but also help Andy so that today’s update will avoid this problem happening to the rest of us!

You get more comments than anyone, Adrienne, so you are like the proverbial canary in the coal mine. Because of you and Ashvini, we can continue using CommentLuv without crashing our own sites.

I don’t have Holy Water, Adrienne. But at least I have Ashvini. :-)

Best wishes for smooth sailing for you and your nephew from now on!

Hey Carolyn,

Ashvini has adopted us hasn’t he! He is pure genius and I remember when you had that issue and I knew that he was helping you as well. He has been our rock and thank God we built that relationship with him. He is such a patient man and so very understanding. We are both very blessed to have him in our circle of very good friends.

When I was told that by me having all these comments that it was hurting me I got very frustrated. That’s why I blog, to get the interaction. At least this time it ended up being a curse instead of a blessing. I was definitely wanting the days when I had to worry about what I was going to write about next and that’s it.

Andy was so thankful that Ashvini located this problem and he quickly corrected it and I was back up and running pretty smoothly.

I didn’t have holy water then but now I have them both. :-)

Thank you Carolyn and here is to smooth sailing through this year for us both.

CommentLuv was the culprit Cararta! When you tried commenting it was throwing most of my comments into spam so because they hadn’t been approved and people weren’t seeing them they thought it hadn’t posted. It’s still doing that on some people so not sure why that started but yep, it was because of that fabulous plug-in.

You need to start building those relationships Cararta so you’ll have an Ashvini. No time like the present.

I am still waiting to see the end of the story about the holy water…lol. Is that your lucky charm? You had me running on this one Adrienne:) and chuckling too. I have found from experience that often times WP plugins can really cause a lot of issues. One thing to always check out when you start having issues, is to investigate whether the plugin is compatible with the current version of WP installed. Have learned this one from some ugly wasted time trying to get my blog to work.

It is now Martin, just wish I’d had it a week early! Maybe I would have had a vision of what the problem was so it would have been solved sooner! Hey, I can hope right! Glad I kept you guessing on that one!

That’s what Bluehost told me that 100% of the time it’s a plug-in issue. Heck, I deactivated every single one of them but was still having the issue so I don’t even know how that was possible. Another reason why I was running around with my head cut off and why I don’t add a lot of plug-ins.

I’ve learned this the hard way too Martin!

Thanks for your comment.

Hi Adrienne

Oh wonderful! After having lost a comment I copied the next one just in case it got dumped again…which it did, then I went back to Word and entered it again later. Yes I see that relationships are really important and if we hadn’t been with the mindset, probably would have given up while you were having your issues. Must have been a scary month for you. Everything you put time into for so long could be wiped out in seconds.

Well hopefully your Holy Water will keep you from anymore problems.

My husband is the techie here and although we are stumped at times, we always seem to get problems resolved. The 2 heads are better than one theory works well for us. Even times I have solved some of the tech problems…surprises even me!

Have a great weekend.

Oh how we can go nuts over these things can’t we Mary! That’s exactly what I was thinking. All of my hard work down the tubes because although I had backups we didn’t know how far back this issue went.

That’s what I’m hoping, no more issues. I’m definitely blessed now! ;-)

Two heads do work better because we can’t always think of everything so having someone else to run it by definitely helps. So glad you have your husband there Mary.

Thank you for your comment and you have a great weekend too!

Adrienne,

I am so glad that your blog is up and running again. I know you just wanted to pull your hair out last week.

Relationships is really what it is all about. I love the relationships I have built blogging but I really need to build more.

Through all that has happened in the past year I have let some of those relationships slide and really need to renew them.

I think building relationships is really the value of blogging.

Love your post.

Hi Dee Ann,

Thank you and you definitely know how I was feeling. I appreciate your help with it as well.

Relationships are important and you have built some good ones. Dee Ann, don’t be hard on yourself because as we’ve blogged about numerous times, life gets in the way at times and things are just out of our control. We don’t lose contact on purpose but there are just outside issues that were taking precedence over your time. I know your friends will understand and just be eager to hear from you again.

I agree with you, the relationship building is what keeps our blogs alive if we are all honest with ourselves.

Thank you Dee Ann and I’m glad we’ve kept our friendship in tact no matter what gets in our way! I think the world of you.

Wowwee, Adrienne! You were busy! I’m sure.

I hate website issues! Partly because I have no idea how to go about fixing them whenever they occur. The last time it happened to me, I was down for like 4 or 5 days. I didn’t know where to begin or who to begin asking. That certainly wasn’t any fun.

I’m glad you were able to find a resolve quickly though. It’s good to have good friends with wisdom behind them. ;)

It doesn’t look like you skipped a beat.

As far as the holy water goes… awesome gift! You have a really cool nephew. Take a pinch out and sprinkle some in the direction of Jasper, GA. I could use a little bit of it right now, myself. lol

Yeah, frantically busy trying to find someone who could tell me something so I could find someone to help! I would have hated being down for one day let alone 4 or 5. The first time they took me down I was offline for about 4 hours tops. The second time it was for only about 30 minutes. They told me to install some things on my blog but since they took it down I couldn’t get in so they had to bring me back up. I was cleaning up the files as they were coming in but they were coming in rather quickly so it was an ongoing issue.

That’s why it’s great to make those awesome connections Deone so you’ll have someone you can turn to. Even if they can’t help you they may know someone who can that they would trust and that’s really important. I had a few people offer but I didn’t know them well and there was no way I was giving anyone access to my blog let alone my hosting account. See, there’s the trust issue again and man that’s so important.

The holy water is really an awesome gift indeed Deone. Pretty darn cool and he’s given me some neat things from his trips around the world. I hope things are okay over there in Georgia! I’ll definitely send some great vibes your way. Be and the holy water will say a little prayer for you. Hey, that’s some powerful stuff now. ;-)

Okay, I confess – I had to re-read the article to catch the link between the holy water and Ashvini – but I got it. I must admit I’m one of those people who would rather pull a fingernail out than have to ask someone else for help. Of course I have been helped on many occasions, especially by fellow bloggers, but it’s my nature to go to great lengths before ever sending up the white flag.

Glad you saw the relation between the two, it was more my desire to not have had this incident happen at all and someone else have caught it before it became a problem but that obviously didn’t happen.

I’ve never been one that enjoys asking for help either Marty and I’ve gone out of my way to learn some things online just so I would know how to do them myself. But there are still a lot of areas I have no knowledge in whatsoever and it’s just way over my head. Coding, programming and resolving database issues fall into those categories too.

Hi Adrienne,

I know you had a rough week last week with your blog. I’m so glad you were able to figure out the problem along with your good friend Ashvini. It is wonderful to have a friend who will step in and lend a hand simply because he is your friend. I have more than one Ashvinis and I am truly grateful for all of them. I can call any of them for help if I need it, and they will gladly push aside their valuable time to help a friend. Of course these friendships have developed over time and we have established trust. I would do the same for any of them and they know it.

It seems to me that your tragedy with your blog may end up helping a lot of bloggers. Ashvini found the culprit and Andy is testing for a possible upgrade? How cool is that? So Adrienne, you were the guinea pig! A week of hell for you will make it better for all of us. I’ve been noticing a lot of blogs with a code error, so maybe Andy’s upgrade may solve the problem and prevent others from having to go through a week of helplessness.

Don’t laugh, but when I first saw the picture of your holy water, I thought the arrow was pointing to the bucket of your potted plant and some type of hole had burned through and drained the water or something crazy…I know…weird. You said it was a funny story, so I instantly thought it had something to do with your plant. After taking a second look, I saw the little bottle…then I got it…

Thanks for sharing and I’m glad all is up and running again!

Exactly right, Andy had no idea this was happening but Ashvini found the problem and Andy immediately resolved the issue for us. He sent out the upgrade today as a matter of fact so no one else will have this issue. I was definitely the guinea pig for sure. Me and all my comments.

Okay I’m sorry, I’m laughing… That’s too funny and I’m envisioning that right this very moment as I read what you thought you saw. I know there was a glare at the bottom but that was my flash going off when taking the photo.

Oh no, I’m so sorry! Well the one thing that I’ve learned is that it’s usually a plug-in that is causing the issue. Since I hadn’t installed any new plug-ins I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why they kept saying it was that. But Andy does upgrade CommentLuv when needed and this has been going on for the last month and a half so I didn’t remember the last time I had upgraded it. Just deactivate all your plug-ins and then add them back in one by one and you can usually find out which one is causing the issue. You might have to switch it out with another one. Pain in the you know what, I know!

I hate glitches and I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. Ashvini isn’t really a tech guy and doesn’t have a tech blog but the more we chatted and go to know each other the more I learned about him which is why I knew he could help. Start building those relationships girl, trust me they come in very handy.

Good luck!

So glad your problems are sorted, Adrienne – and it looks as if you’ve helped improve CommentLuv by default, along the way!

Your story reinforces the fact that no man (or gal!) is an island – we need each other and no-one can possibly be good at everything.

Like Marquita, I like to try to figure things out for myself whenever I can, but I have no hesitation in calling on my ‘expert’ friends, when I need them – we have some great friends who come to our rescue regularly, in the real world, whenever we have any DIY crises (my husband and I are both useless at that stuff!)

Online, I’m still linked into a forum from the course I did last year, on which there are a couple of great technical experts who’ll always give us advice. When I was on the course, my site developed a kind of ‘bug’ that no-one could figure out and another student on the course (someone who’s sadly dropped out of the picture now) just beavered away like a dog with a bone and came up with the solution for me – I was so grateful!

I’m not much of an expert at anything online yet, but I love helping people out and hope that, as time goes by, I’ll be able to offer other bloggers a helping hand as well as putting out the old begging bowl when I get stuck!

BTW – I do think most people get a real buzz out of sorting out other people’s problems – givers ‘get’ from giving, in all sorts of ways.

Lovely to hear a story with a happy ending, Adrienne – I’m a sucker for them!

Thank you Sue and you’re right! We helped CommentLuv in a big way without even knowing it!

I got with my hosting service and they pointed me in the direction of an area I had never ventured into so I learned a lot about database tables. I found out somewhat how they function but was scared to do anything to the files there not really understanding how they are connected. I late learned how to easily access another folder that was dumping all the data files in them so I did get me some good lessons from this but it was still way over my head for actually solving it. Enters Ashvini, my hero.

I hate that word Sue, expert! Are any of us ever really experts at anything? Things are changing and evolving all the time so unless you stay on top of everything and really understand all the ins and outs I think that’s a word that gets misused a lot. I prefer to say I’ve acquired a lot of knowledge in some areas but I’ll never consider myself an expert.

Ashvini loved the challenge, to find out what the culprit was and how to knock it to it’s knees. He did a fabulous job of it too Sue.

By the way, this was the post I wrote in 30 minutes from beginning, editing, completing and hitting publish that I told you about. Now you probably see why! ;-)

Ha-ha! I wondered if this was the one! Written straight from the heart, Adrienne, straight from the heart, that’s very clear!

Know just what you mean about ‘experts’ – I’m still looking for one to solve the freezing problem on my pc. I also share your fear of venturing into databases in cpanel – scary, scary stuff! Looks like you’re a little bit wiser about all that, though, as a result of this shenanigans.

It’s great how often something good comes out of life’s little crises.

Have a stress-free weekend, Adrienne – you deserve it!

Yep, this is it and now you know why it didn’t take me long at all. Fastest one I’ve ever written and probably ever will with the rate I’m going Sue.

I know what I’ve been told about why your computer will freeze up but I’m definitely not one to know a lot about computers. I always call my brother for that. Now the cPanel where my database is no longer a scary thing. Mind you I’m not going to go and start moving files around but I know have a better understanding of what they actually are and what they’re for.

The only good thing that came from this was that I was able to save a whole lot of people from having this same issue. Plus Ashvini got some recognition for having such a big heart! :-)

I’ll definitely have a stress free weekend Sue. You have a good one yourself. We deserve it! ;-)

Oh Adrienne,
It was the “week from hell” for you. Then the holy water came! Now I don’t believe in coincidences, so there you go. You are saved! lol

Thank goodness you had someone to help you out before the holy water came. This only goes to prove that we do need our friends on line. Because you are the “queen of relationships” you have made a friend and knew exactly who to call and bingo…help was on it’s way.

This brings me to your relationship marketing as you do so well. This is the proof of the pudding my friend. We all need one another and you are there to teach people how important that is.

I don’t know him, but I do have a friend that pulls me out of those rough spots immediately. And when it comes to technical things, I don’t want to figure it out myself, I want quick results. So I PM her and she is “Johnny on the spot” for me.

Well at least now you can rest easy and use that bottle of Holy Water when you need it. It does work if you believe in it you know. I have a gallon!

You’re right Donna, because I took the time to build that relationship with Ashvini a few years ago I do have someone I can call to help me in a time of need. Thank goodness for that too.

Well see, you are living proof too Donna because you have your own group of friends you can call for assistance. But guess what! I consider you a good friend that I could call when I need you and I know you’d be there for me. We don’t always need someone who can solve technical issues but there are other areas we need help with too. I’d do the same for you too!

I’m not surprised with all the comments you get on a regular basis. Andy is great from CommentLuv and I’m sure he’s already working on something for you or others in the future.
I didn’t have any trouble accessing your site last week.
I hope the rest of your week now goes very smooth! You had enough complications last week :)

Hey Lisa,

Ah, we most definitely did.

I’m so happy to hear that you have plenty of people that will help you in a time of need. That’s what friends are for right! People are really so kind with their time and help, I love this community.

Andy is always eager to improve CommentLuv and he was right on top of it once we located what the issue was.

Glad you didn’t have any issues. It was in and out all week long.

So far this week has been wonderful and I have no doubt it will be smooth sailing from here on out now. I’ve got my holy water now! ;-)

Thanks Lisa and you have a fabulous weekend.

Well, I’m glad it’s all been fixed Adrienne!

So, all those comments were dragging you down girl!

I really hope that the next CommentLuv update will have a solution for any blog that may reach a large amount of comments, so the same thing won’t happen to one of use.

Indeed, those relationships are important and when you build them, they turn out to be so valuable in the end.

Thanks for Sharing this, Adrienne.

Me too Sylviane, me too!

Absolutely and one of the guys at Bluehost suggested I delete some of them. I told him then why the hell blog! We blog to get the interaction so people can tell us what they think and now you want me to delete them! I told him he was nuts.

There was a glitch when WordPress communicated with CommentLuv so because it wasn’t optimized properly it was just searching through thousands and thousands of files before it would post the comment. If you didn’t have over 20,000 pages of comments then you wouldn’t necessarily have the same issue but I have over 21,000 pages of comment so it was going through every single page which was dragging the site down. Andy repaired that glitch so this new update that was released today for the public did the trick.

You are so right, that one relationship I built with Ashvini literally saved my blog. He’s definitely my hero.

Thank you Sylviane for stopping by, always good to see you.

Hi Adrienne,
It’s amazing what can be accomplished by developing online relationships!
The type of synergy that occurs from meeting new people is incredible!
I’m glad you were able to sort your problems.
Adrienne, you reap what you sow in life. You, my dear, have a huge following because of the type of person you are. If you’re willing to help people, you will be repaid a thousand times over.
I can see good things in your future. Here’s to a great 2013 for you!

Hey George,

Yes my friend it sure is. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to meet so many amazing people online. I do consider them true friends and would love to have the opportunity to meet them all in person one day.

Thanks to Ashvini, my issue has been resolved. From this point forward it my blog goes offline it’s not because of me. Problems do occur with our hosting service but thank goodness it won’t be my fault. lol…

Thank you so much George, that’s very kind of you to say. I love helping people, I truly do. I wish I could help the world but I don’t have all the answers. The areas I do know well though I hope what I share others will find useful.

Thank you so much and I see great things happening for us all. So, let’s get to it shall we! ;-)

Your post sure did inspire me to find a tech buddy. Thank goodness I’ve not had technical problems like that but I am the IT department (one of my many hats) and I’m living on a prayer! I do lean on Lisa (Inspire To Thrive) and Sicorra at Tackling Our Debt has been mentoring me as well in all other aspects because we can all use the support :)

I switched providers last year to Hostgator (they’re based in Houston) after Lisa recommended them to me. They’re customer service is awesome. They have 24/7 support and they take time to help people like me who aren’t too techie.

I think it’s so neat that your family got together when your nephew came home. Did you have the Christmas fixin’s on the menu or did you cook something special?

As for your Holy Water, I agree that it has special powers as well and you’re right to think that it can only be smooth sailing from this point on but beware God’s sense of humor :) Glad everything worked out for you and I’ll be looking up Ashvini and start hob-knobbing with him ;)

Have a great night Adrienne.

Hey Cori,

I tell you what Cori, Ashvini in one of his comments here said that my friends can call on him if they have an issue in the future. Now that’s going above and beyond so if you ever run into an issue (let’s pray that never happens) at least you have someone to turn to now. That’s because he’s an awesome guy.

I see Hostgator’s offices when I drive out to my brother or sister’s. I used them about three years ago briefly and had major issues with their service. That put a very bad taste in my mouth for them but I’m sure that was a fluke and a sign I was to stay where I way.

We had the same thing we always have for Christmas. My Mom loves to change things up but we argue with her almost every year. We love what we have each holiday season and we don’t want any new recipes. Cook them any other time but not during the holidays. We’re spoiled and we love our menu.

I’m fully aware of God’s sense of humor because I believe he was testing me last week. I almost failed until I realized what was really happening. I learned to just breath and have more patience because everything would work out as it should. Obviously he needed to use me in order to resolve this issue with CommentLuv and he knew he could do that through Ashvini. Everything does happen for a reason even if we don’t know what it is at the time.

Thank you so much Cori for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me. They are always welcome. You enjoy this weather girl, I sure will.

Hi Adrienne,

Thank goodness :) Really glad to know now it’s been fixed dear. I’ve been through it few times and gladly I’ve copied my comment before submitting it. I can see now all CommentLuv links are back too :) Hope you have done a backup right after.

So far I was able to figure things out and Google helps me find some solutions to act on if it’s something I couldn’t figure dear :) You know, I’m kinda not confident enough to ask for help unless I can’t figure it out myself. So far so cool :D lol… But as you have pointed out, I really really value relationships as they are rocking all the way. For different matters, I know folks to count on and I can’t say someone that I can’t count on though.

Applause to Ashvini for helping you out on it and Andy too. Such a support must be appreciated :)

Cheers…

Hey Mayura,

Me too, thank goodness and when I got in touch with you about that indexing that was one of the things they recommended. I later found out they do that with everyone and it’s not the issue. I backup my blog everyday Mayura and have been doing that religiously for a long period of time now.

Andy did release the newer version yesterday so all should be good in our world now.

There are so many people who prefer not to ask for help. Unfortunately for me, there are so many areas I’m just not knowledgeable on and messing with coding is one of those high up there on my list. But isn’t it really cool Mayura that we do have such wonderful friends that can help us if we need it. Just out of the kindness of their heart. We are truly blessed.

I agree, big applause to Ashvini for finding the problem and for Andy on resolving it. Yay!!!

Thank you my friend and you enjoy your weekend.

Sorry about your troubles, and amazing it originated from CommentLuv Premium. Never thought all those comments would get you in trouble.

That was just on this last run of his. He’s actually been all around the world. Nope, he didn’t bring me anything from Greece this run but he’ll be going back on his next run. Heck, I’m blessed and in awe of the holy water.

I figured it was a plug-in but never figured that all my comments would hurt me more then help me. At least with this particular issue. Way to go Ashvini is right! He saved the day.

I’ve always loved Bluehost but some of their service people need to be more educated on these issues. I learned in the corporate world that it’s very rare to get a great product and great service with the same company. It’s usually one or the other so at times this is happening with Bluehost too. But their service is still amazing, it wasn’t their issue. It was mine.

Thank you Craig and glad you have a support system as well.

I’m glad that my horrible incident was yet another lesson of how important it is to build those relationships. Some people have told me it’s a waste of time if they aren’t going to join you in their business or purchase products from you. Hi Adrienne,

Tech problems can make us all crazy because there is usually just enough information out there to make you feel like you kinda, sorta have an idea what is wrong and might be able to fix it yourself.

But a lot of times it is like fumbling in the dark while searching for that needle in a haystack. I am glad you found your needle and fixed things.

I have brilliant hosts, Adrienne, and have always been very happy with the service, no crossed wires at all. However, when I joined a few years ago they were a small company and the two owners did all the work. Now they are HUGE and they outsource their helpdesk to a foreign provider. This has caused me 2 problems, the first is their English isn’t great (difficult to say the least) and secondly you never speak to the same person twice so get the whole having to repeat what you sid the first time all over again because someone else has understood you differently….you know what I mean, I’m sure. Luckily the owners of the hosting always man the online chat, that is not outsourced at all, so it is just a case of waiting til the chat is online if the techies haven’t got it! Glad you’re sorted now though and great to know that the commentluv problems have been picked up early enough to be sorted. I look forward to the commentluv update! But oh, to have an issue about the amount of comments on my blog…

Enjoy the journey.

I’m so glad you’re happy with your hosting service Mandy.

Overall I do love Bluehost and I am thankful that all their tech support are located here in the United States. They make a point of sharing that with us and I ask each time where they’re located. But you’re right. Every time I would call I would get someone different with a different answer yet really not having expertise in that particular area. That’s why I was so frustrated last month because I called them three times because of the issues I was having and they told me it wasn’t my account. One hour later after my third call, they shut my blog down blaming me for the issue. Had the first person I contacted about that a week earlier told me I would have been able to resolve this back then instead of it going on for another month.

Minor instances are just a small bump but when your sites starts to have major issues then you’ll find out just how supportive your hosting service really is. They did go above and beyond, a few of them did. I just hope I don’t have to deal with this ever again.

Thanks Mandy for sharing that and best of luck to you too!

Hey Adrienne

It must be a weight off now that things have been sorted out with your blog. The last few weeks, I’m sure, were very frustrating.

Great that you have an Ashvini and it’s brilliant that he was able to help you. I can’t believe it was CommentLuv that was causing the problem but I’m grateful that you found a potential problem for all of us that use it and it’s now fixed.

I’ve had some problems with CommentLuv myself as you know but Andy Bailey really helped me out and they, fingers crossed, now appear to be fixed too. Nice one!

I tend to tinker about a bit myself when anything goes wrong. My technical knowledge is pretty limited at times but I’m learning pretty quickly and love to do loads of research around these sorts of things.

Fantastic that you also finally had your family get together. It must have been great to see your nephew after he’d been away for quite some time. And the holy water will hopefully keep any more WordPress demons away!

It’s my son’s fifth birthday this weekend so I’m so far behind on my blog and commenting. Hopefully I’ll get some more stuff done tonight.

Have a great weekend Adrienne.

Hey Tim,

I’m sure you know the feeling Tim after the problems you incurred as well. It’s so not fun is it!

I’ve learned a lot about some things with this adventure Tim and it’s usually a compatibility issue between your plug-in and WordPress. Another reason people shouldn’t just install every new plug-in known to mankind. You keep doing that and you will have major issues. Andy is an extremely helpful guy and will go out of his way to make sure he helps you if you’re having any issues. I wish everyone was like Andy.

Thank you, we did have a wonderful time together and I’m looking forward to next month as well. You enjoy your son’s birthday this weekend. Family is the most important thing Tim.

Have a great weekend yourself.

I’m so sorry to hear about your blog problems! That must have been stressful and frustrating! I did try to leave a comment last week and it vanished when I tried to submit it. I planned to come back and redo it, but then I forgot. :-( sorry.

I get so mad when a problem comes up that I have no idea how to fix, luckily with a whole lot of tinkering, I usually can figure the techy stuff out. I don’t have an Ashvini, but I’m going to have to find one!!

I’ve been trying to connect more with new people and I’ve been trying to meet 5 new people a day and friend them on Facebook. It’s fun meeting new people and its so helpful knowing people who know how to do a lot of different things. Thanks for the reminder of this, Adrienne!

Wow I would not know where to start and clearly Ashvini is a very valuable person to know. I do have a VA I share in the Philippines and he can fix many things for me. I am not technical at all.

I love the holy water story and great your nephew is getting to some exciting places. I so love to travel.

My nephew has been to Australia too now Sue. He brought me back a shirt and I was so jealous. That’s the place I want to go next. I might have to use you as an excuse to come and visit.

Hey Adrienne,

I’m glad you are back! Don’t i know the feeling of that dreaded page you see when you cick your link and you get database fail!

It was actually happening to me last week to. Not to the extremes of your blog, but load time was taking in excess of 5 minutes! I called my host 1and1 and spoke to them. They said my server was the issue and they would have it up and running in a few hours (which they did).

I know how hard it can be when this happens and also how frustrating it can be. Fortunately I have a great hosting service to turn to. Also, I’m not too bad with the tech side of things either. If it gets to overwhelming I have the owner of D9 hosting to help me and also a couple of techie WP buddies, so I guess I am fortunate.

Glad to see you are back Adrienne, and I could not agree more about networking with people in your business. We are all here to help each other don’t you agree?

Hey Dan,

The first time I got that message I just thought I was having server issues, you know, on their end. Little old me never really understood why those issues occur I just thought it was their issue and not mine. That was until I learned I was the issue. Yikes!!!

I had issues like that probably about a year ago and someone told me that I could suggest being moved to another server because obviously the people I was sharing that one with I kept having a lot of lag time. They had no problem granting my request and for the next year that solved that particular issue.

I think it would be great to have more knowledge of behind the scenes stuff Dan. I mean I’d love to know that stuff myself. This was definitely a huge learning experience for me but I could have never located the issue myself since I don’t know coding at all. Thank goodness I do have someone to call and it’s good to know you do as well. I’m sure you’ve got some darn good connections for just about everything.

Thank you Dan you yes siree… Get to networking people because your time will come, trust me. It’s inevitable!

Enjoy your weekend with the family.

I went to business college for computers just before my Mom needed me, but had just graduated, when I was needed. But all this stuff was not on the list of what I learned. I was taught spreadsheets, Desktop publishing, powerpoint (my personal fav!) and like 5 other programs as well. I wish I did know more about this stuff though. You’re right, it certainly pays off to make those relationships, connections and friendships! :)

You more then likely won’t have any issues like this Colleen because you don’t have any plug-ins. There is always a chance that with all the updates that these plug-ins and WordPress has that something will no longer work the way it use to until they catch up with each other.

I hear ya, I was an executive assistant for years so I learned those types of things as the programs evolved. I learned much better just with hands on instead of attending a class. But behind the scenes of what to do, never got that far and that would have been something that was say over my head. I do understand a lot more about computers though as the years have gone by.

Thanks Colleen for sharing your comment with me. Hope you enjoy your weekend.

I myself am having a spot of bother with Comment Luv so I may need to get some assistance on this.

You are spot on with what you say here. I have connected with people through various groups that I could call on to get help. For me this is so important as I’m not technically minded.

I can follow instructions but I obviously need to get help in the first place. Once you come across techie problems it’s invaluable having someone you can call on.

Man Adrienne. I remember that we. You were all in a tizzy and so were we and others who were trying to comment on your blog. You are so right. It is about building relationships so you can reach out to someone who can help you when you need it. Especially in our technical savvy world…it’s just so hard to maintain and know everything. And you never know where those relationships will end up and of what benefit it will be to you. Just yesterday, I had a lady reach out to me regarding something very simple. I made her two quick videos to show her how to do it. We talked this morning on Google hangout and I think developed a foundation to support each other. It was phenomenal and I loved it. Yes I do have a support group (you’re one of them :) and it’s a great balance of technical, business and moral support! Hallelujah! Finally real people! Everyone should follow your advice. Relationship building is the key to long lasting friendships as well as business relationships. Glad everything is back in order. Take care,
Barbara

Hey Barbara,

I love that the woman reached out to you Barbara and out of wanting to help her you actually shot two videos. Wow, that’s so awesome and now look at the relationship you two are building. And that my wonderful friend is how it all starts.

You’re right, we never know where those friendships will lead or what type of help we may be needing some day. It’s great to know though that you have people you can reach out to. You are one of those people for me Barbara and I’m so honored to have you in my tight circle of friends.

I hope everyone will take my advice and start building those solid relationships and not do it to expect something but friendship. That’s how this all happens.

Enjoy your weekend, what’s left of it anyway.

My host is very helpful to me in situations like these. If not, then I have a few people who are helpful and follow me on Twitter. I had problems with my database for a few days last week, but it ended up just being that I needed to repair it — something that took about four days to figure out and could have just been done via the cPanel. -.- Blah. All of that work for nothing.

Now I’ve learned to check my database before I go asking for help for my WordPress troubles. :p (Not that I enjoy asking for help.)

I did notice your site being a bit slow before and having errors and such; I’m glad it’s back up now! :)

Oh wow, sorry you had that issue as well Liza. I now know how to access all of that but I get nervous actually messing with the files. They are there for a reason but it’s which ones are causing the problems. Glad your hosting service has been great help and you also have some friends to call. I love my friends.

Thank you for your patience and glad it’s back running smoothly now. Yay!!!

Enjoy your week.

Hi Adrienne,

Thank you for sharing this “do you have an Ashvini?” post. It is an insightful post! The relationship and friendship that we have built is priceless. I am blessed to have found you. You are my Ashvini. I can’t wait to have you helping out with enhancing my blog as discussed in our private conversation :)

I must admit that I am quite lucky. My MLSP sponsor happened to be a very supportive gentleman. I remember one day asking him to help me out with setting up an email account associated with my domain name. Despite the fact that it was around 2 a.m. in the morning at his UK time, he helped me THERE and THEN. I mentioned that it was not urgent. He did that in minutes!! Want to know his name? Abdul Waheed. He is also very good at SEO too. I benefit so much from knowing him.

Thanks, Adrienne :)

PS: I am glad to hear that your blog issue has been solved. Isn’t Ashvini wonderful?

Hi Viola,

I appreciate that but when it comes to real problems, I’m no Ashvini. I can set some things up behind the scenes but when it comes to major problems, those go right over my head. I appreciate that though and I’ll be getting back with you today on that.

So glad to hear your sponsor was so helpful. I had a woman opt into my blog one day so I called to introduce myself. She was beside herself. She had been trying to figure out for four days how to put an opt-in box on her blog. I told her if she had five minutes we’d do it together right then. We had it done in less then a minute because she already had it created. She was so appreciative but seriously, we love to help when it doesn’t take any time at all.

Thanks for letting us know about Abdul. He’s your hero!

Enjoy your week Viola and yes, Ashvini is wonderful. :-)

Adrienne,

What a great story. I was one of those who kept getting caught up in the commenting issue. Two good things about it, though.

One, it’s fixed!! That always makes it better. :-)

Two, people who take the time to comment on blogs understand the online world and that things happen beyond our control. As long as it’s not an extended issues taking several weeks or months to fix, I don’t think it would negatively impact you in the slightest.

I know it’s frustrating, though. And it’s a great thing you had Ashvini to help you out!

You’re so right that it’s important to take the time to engage our visitors and readers, and build relationships. Relationships are the absolute key to being successful, regardless of what path you take.

And we all end up in situations where we need somebody to help us out in a pinch. That only happens if we’ve put the work in on the front end to build those relationships. It’s totally our own responsibility, and if we end up stuck in a situation because nobody will help us, it’s our own fault in my opinion.

As big as the blogging community is, it’s still really just a small hometown type of community. We all want to build a successful blog and business, and most of us are willing to help others out the best we can. The ones that aren’t willing to help are usually identified pretty quickly, and their online real estate tends to be a ghost town because of it.

I’m glad everything’s up and running again. I hope you have a truly outstanding week!

Hey Barry,

Thank you and I know that at times we’ll all have issues with our blog. A lot of it is of course out of our control. The issue is finding people that can help us resolve these so it won’t continue to cause havoc. I appreciate your patience as I dealt with this.

Ashvini definitely was my savior in this instance and I’m so blessed that he came to my rescue.

You are right Barry, building those relationships is really crucial online and offline. Things may not happen to them like this particular incident but you can bet something will come up and if you don’t have anyone to help you then you’re just lost. The blogging community is really small because most people don’t hang around for long. They just give it a try, don’t see results soon enough and quit. The rest of us need to stick together.

Thank you for sharing this Barry!

Just last week, I also had this similar problem. My site just opens to a page that says ‘Internal Server Error’ and some more gibberish about server error 500 and whatever.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an Ashvini. So, I called up Lunarpages Support and asked for help. They don’t normally solve the problem for their clients but they can however point me in the right direction.

It’s also a database problem. Something to do with a query that was left hanging in a locked state and awaiting to complete. But thanks to my hosting support, I invoked my inner Ashvini and exerted all efforts to troubleshoot my site, disabling some plugins and deleting specific database tables and then finally doing blog resuscitation. Whew!

The culprit was not CommentLuv in mine but Broken Link Checker. And I’m drafting the next post revolving around this experience. :)

Wow James,

Don’t you hate that when that happens and you don’t know how to fix it! I did get a few helpful people in support that went above and beyond to hunt down the location of where the problem was occurring but they couldn’t fix it for me. That’s when I went to Ashvini so I think everyone needs someone to turn to in a time of need.

I’m so glad you got that fixed. I don’t use that plug-in thank goodness. Tried it once but it always said I had no broken links when Google was telling me exactly which links were broken. I knew right then and there that plug-in would be useless to me.

Now that my friend warrants a post of it’s own but I liked how you showed us how to disable all your plug-ins from your cPanel. I learned something new from you yesterday.

Enjoy your day now and thanks for your comment.

Ya know, you could have just drop me a line!

I just wrote a post over at Jeffrey-Morgan on MySQL being the worst software ever … and the best!

Nothing really causes me any concern with what we do, however, I’ll have to admit that Relational Database’s really make me nervous.

Hey Adrienne, what’s up with Barry Wells? And have you heard from John McNally recently?

You are a very busy guy Jeffrey and we haven’t spoke in a very long time. But you are right, I could have gotten in touch with you too. Sorry about that.

As you know, I’m not much on that stuff so it’s way over my head. We’re stuck with what we have and there will eventually be issues. I know that now.

Barry has been ill most of last year and just had surgery this past week to correct that issues. He’s not back 100% so until he is, he’s mostly offline. We’ll all hoping for a speedy recovery. I haven’t heard from John in ages so I’m not sure where he is.

Great to hear from you Jeffrey and I see you’re posting on your old blog. Will you be regularly again?
