What would you do if each one of us had our own bank and every single day it deposited $86,400 into your account. You had to spend every single penny because the balance would never move over. If you didn’t spend it then you lost it for that day.
I’m guessing that you would probably draw out every cent right! Not let one penny go to waste.
Well all of us have a bank but it’s called time. Every single day it credits you 86,400 seconds. At the beginning of each new day if you failed to invest your time wisely it writes it off as a loss. You can’t carry over your balance and there is no such thing as an overdraft.
Everyday your account fills back up but whatever you don’t spend wisely, the loss is yours. There is no going back.
You can’t borrow against tomorrow, you only have the present. You have to live on today’s deposit and invest it wisely into every opportunity.
Your clock is running, you have to make the most of the day right here and right now.
Do You Value Your Time
Most people don’t value their time until it’s gone.
Ask the college student what the value of a year is who failed a grade.
Ask the mother what the value of a month is who gave birth to a premature baby.
Ask the editor of a weekly newspaper what the value of one week is when they’re on a deadline.
Ask a person what the value of one hour is who just missed their ride to their destination.
Ask the person what the value of one second is who narrowly avoided an accident.
Ask the athlete what the value of one millisecond is who took the silver medal in the Olympics.
Time waits for no one.
How Are You Spending Yours
It’s a new year and a new day. Some of us lost loved ones last year while others are fighting for their lives. Those of us that are fortunate enough to be healthy and blessed should not waste one second of the time we have.
I want this to be a message to you all that life is precious. Make the most out of the time you have today.
Don’t cloud your mind with negative thoughts.
Don’t put off today what you hope to accomplish tomorrow.
Believe in yourself and your dreams can come true.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.
Cherish Each Day
I know that each of us is online for our own reasons. For those who want to have a better life for themselves and/or their family make the most of it.
Don’t put anything off, don’t be afraid to ask for help and use your time wisely. Connect with other bloggers and form your own group. Let others help support you and don’t put it off for another day.
I want the best for everyone and oftentimes we don’t realize that time has gotten away from us. Plan for your future and make the most of each day.
I hope you’ll share your thoughts with me and I apologize if I got a little carried away. With the beginning of a new year I don’t want anyone to look back and have regrets. If only I could have done this or I should have motivated myself enough to do that, etc.
Time is precious so let’s all make the most of ours.

Beautifully worded Adrienne!
I ditto your words and say them so often – value the moments….because once lost – they never return.
Yes indeed, our time IS precious and it’s not just yours or mine. Each one of us is here for a purpose and is trying to achieve our goals, though sometimes we tend to take the easy way out, slacken our pace or tend to get lazy and put off things for later – only to have regrets.
I wish people would realize the importance of time and value it. Live each moment as if it were the last – it is the NOW that matters and make the most of it. Every passing second is just going unless you grab and make the most of it – that’s what I believe in strongly and follow it every single day. For me – each day is a new day, with new beginnings and new hopes to be lived to the fullest.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful post with all of us and for reminding us as well.

Hi Harleena,
I sound like a broken record sometimes don’t I! I guess this is one of those areas I can’t say enough about.
I see it so often that people say they’re going to do something yet continue to put it off. Sometimes they let it slide and never get around to it or other times they’ll never had that opportunity due to certain circumstances.
I have no doubt that you also cherish each day Harleena so thank you for sharing that with me. I hope that those who continue to just take each day as if it’s promised will understand the importance of appreciating every second we have to spend on this earth.
I appreciate your comment and you have a beautiful week.

I’m sure it’s no surprise I love this post, Adrienne! What a great idea to compare time with a daily deposit of cash to remind all of us that how we spend our time is important.
I try, as much as possible, to live an intentional life. Living my best life doesn’t require I get what I want, or everything goes my way- I live a great life when I spend my time and energy wisely- honoring myself and loving the life I have each day!
When I get caught up in so-called emergencies and unnecessary drama I can readjust my perspective, remember what’s important to me, and spend more time living a life I want to live. I don’t have to attend every argument I’m invited to, and spending my time trying to please others is a waste of it! All I have to do is be the person I want to be and things will generally work out.
Thanks for the inspirational message! Have a grateful day!

Hey Chrysta, great to see you again.
Yeah, I didn’t doubt that you would love this one. I had a moment ya know!
I got that idea from a video I had seen last year and it’s been in the back of my head ever since. I decided since this is the first month of the new year to just remind everyone of just how valuable our time really is.
Thank you for sharing that with me Chrysta. To not let every event control the way you react and keep a perspective on things is fabulous. I know for a lot of people that doesn’t come easy and it’s not. It’s definitely a choice of how we react to whatever is thrown at us. It’s really a waste of our energy.
I appreciate you stopping by this morning and thank you for your lovely comment.
Enjoy your day!

Brilliant,
I didn’t make the connection of money with time until you called it out but then i was like “yeah, that’s brilliant!”
I promise, i’ll try to make use of every second of every day and not waste it.

Hi Adrrienne,
You are not getting carried away about the new year. As I read your post, it made me think of many times I have not put time into perspective and once it’s gone, it’s gone. I don’t have any regrets, and I want to use my time so that every minute counts. I never equated time is money until I got into this business. Some of the activities I did, I admit, were a waste if I look at it that way. Was it really? Each minute I spent thinking I was wasting time was just the next step to learning another lesson, either in life or business. The important thing is to learn from each minute and learn from every mistake and move on. The next time around, my efficiency will get better.
The biggest challenge is to live in the moment and live life to the fullest with what I have. Through the years I have learned to live for the here and now, rather than spend time thinking about the past and playing the “would of, should of, could of” game. It takes discipline for me to stay aware and enjoy the moment and don’t dwell on the past.
This is going to be a fabulous year. I can feel it. Everything that has happened has lead to me being able to have that thought. I remember many “new years” that thought wouldn’t enter my mind! Thanks for everything you do for all of us and especially for setting an example of how to accomplish goals by your example. Have a wonderful year!

Hi Raena,
Ah, early again… Nice!
I appreciate you sharing that with me Raena. I think as business owners we have to look at time equaling money because we sure can waste a lot of it if we don’t pay attention to things.
It’s taken me a long time too to learn to live in the present and stop thinking about the past. It can’t be changed but we sure can learn from it. It’s something that’s learned for sure because our minds certainly can drift.
I agree with you Raena, this is going to be a fabulous year indeed. I’m excited about what the future holds for all of us and I’m so blessed to have met so many amazing people too, you included.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me and you have a fabulous day!

Hi Adrienne,
Well, indeed, time is precious and as an elementary teacher of mine used to repeat every day the whole year he was my teacher, “you can’t ever get back the time that you’ve lost”. That really stuck with me.
As you know, Adrienne, I am a very busy woman, handling many “jobs”, and if I don’t plan things carefully and ahead of time I wouldn’t be able to make it. People ask me on a regular basis, how do you do it? Well, by planning ahead and writing down just about everything I’ve go to do, down to “deleting emails”.
I know that it may sounds crazy, but I write down stupid statements like that
Deleting email, befriend 3 people of facebook, comment on so and so blog…. and those are the small things, obviously, but if I don’t write them down, somehow, I may forget about them or let them take too much of my precious time.
Thank you for this great reminder about how precious is our time.

Hi Sylviane,
Your elementary teacher was one smart guy. I hear that often too and I know that for me, the older I get the more time seems to just fly by. The “if only’s” add up and we start regretting things we should have done.
You are a very busy woman Sylviane so I can only imagine what your calendar looks like. I write everything down myself but I have a feeling your list is a lot long then mine. See, there are never enough hours in the day for either of us so we need to appreciate every single second.
I appreciate you sharing that with me Sylviane and thank you so much for your comment. A great reminder indeed.

This comment has to do with the play “Rent.”
I asked my daughter and her cousin how many minutes there were in a year. They took out their phones and opened a calculator and said “525,600.” Correct, I said. They wondered why I asked the question. Secretly, I had a plan.
Three months I later, I took them to see the play “Rent.” The first song after intermission is called “Seasons of Love.” As soon as they heard it, they turned to me with the biggest smiles on their face. Its’ one of those moments I’ll never forget.
SEASONS OF LOVE
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, a year in the life?
How about love?
How about love?
How about love?
Measure in love
Seasons of love
Seasons of love
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand journeys to plan
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life of a woman or a man?
In truths that she learned
Or in times that he cried
In bridges he burned
Or the way that she died
It’s time now, to sing out
Though the story never ends
Let’s celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends
Remember the love
(Oh, you got to, you got to remember the love)
Remember the love
(You know that life is a gift from up above)
Remember the love
(Share love, give love, spread love)
Measure in love
(Measure, measure your life in love)
Seasons of love
Seasons of love
(Measure your life, measure you life in love)

Hi Adrienne,
Message received! I so do agree with you, we should be living and appreciating the moment and am a believer in it. Although, I do tend to have moments where I do waste time – put it down to ‘chilling out’
It’s sad, but it is often after we lose something or worse, someone, before we really realise and learn to appreciate the message you’ve given here.
Thanks Adrienne, wonderful post
Take Care

Hi Julie,
I don’t think that the time you’re chillin out is really wasted. We need that time to ourselves Julie to do absolutely nothing. We work a lot to achieve our goals and if we work smart we’ll just have more of those chillin moments or perhaps to spend with loved ones.
You are so right Julie and I have several friends that are like that and it makes me so sad. I know that they know that life isn’t promised but most of the time they just have the attitude that it will never happen to them. Then it does and they finally “get it” but by then it’s too late. I want to shake everyone and make them realize that you need to treat today like it’s your last. Never let words go unsaid. Don’t let the small stuff consume you.
Thank you Julie, I really appreciate you sharing that with me.

Hi, Adrienne,
We needed this reminder of time being limited. For some reason we perceive time in the future being forever. The concept is blurred and when it is time to go (I mean from this world) we are caught by surprise. Hence, we better train ourselves to value time, as you point out, as if it is money in the bank, and use it wisely.
I read somewhere that we have to do something different every week, so we can remember more happenings. Usually the days are like drops of water and easily forgotten. All is up to us, to decide today. appreciate time NOW.
I noticed that when I stop and take note of the moment, reminding myself that this is minute is to be remembered by something special, I do remember.

Hi Margarita,
Leave it to me to remind everyone as this year gets off to a good start. I don’t want anyone to take life for granted and realize that they’ve wasted precious time on things that were of no importance in the grand scheme of things.
Well I’m in trouble then Margarita because I do the same thing every single day. I have my moments when I gather with friends and family and those are always memorable.
You sound like you have this all together my friend. When I take the dog out I look at everything like I’m noticing it for the first time. You never know, that could be my last time someday and I don’t want to miss anything.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Margarita and you have a wonderful day.

As I recall, Albert Einstein said that “time does not exist”. That being said, we need to value every minute of every day whether it is in entrepreneurial ventures, or lending a helping hand to someone who is less fortunate. We must be accountable for our time and our use of time. How will we use our time in 2013? Will we be good stewards of time or giant time wasters? It is our choice.

I hope that everyone will look at 2013 as a new year and a new beginning and start living for the now. Enjoy life and what it has to offer and put forth the efforts to build your business your way. It’s our choice indeed.
Thank you Martin for your comment and hope you enjoy your day.

Hi Adrienne
Good morning! It is cold here in California, but it is dry.
I agree about the value of time and how many times I would like to retrieve it. I had talked about doing things for months but since the 31st I have. It is just getting in and doing what you know will wait, but the time will not. So instead of trying to do everything poorly, I have decided to stay focused on three things each week. If there is room for other stuff I will do it, but I have to realize I can’t do it all.
It is kind of funny with what you wrote as I just had a frustrating experience a few days ago and knowing full well that I was wasting an enormous amount of time on something that should have been simple. Just didn’t figure out where the info was. Finally found what I needed and yep…it was simple! I wrote that down in great detail, so that I never have to waste so much time again. Don’t know if I will need the info again, but I am not taking any chances. I had such a headache when I was done…don’t need that either!

Hi Mary,
It’s cold here in Texas too but it’s wet. Not raining but it has been on and off throughout the night.
I wish I could go back in time when it comes to some things Mary but we all know that’s not possible. I think how we spend our time each day though needs to be seriously considered so that we don’t waste one precious moment of it. It sounds like you’re been planning your things out and that’s a good thing. Don’t do things that will either waster your time of be unproductive.
Oh, I go through that too. I’ve been wanting to beat my head in at times with things because they are suppose to be so easy to do for most people yet I haven’t a clue why it’s so difficult for me. I’ve definitely been there Mary more times then I would like to admit.
Thank you for sharing that with me Mary! I hope that you have a wonderful day today and a fabulous week ahead. Spent doing what you enjoy and love.

The other thing is I’m under the gun to hit some of my goals so my husband can retire..he’s hanging in there for me! Bless him!

Oh I’m so very sorry. I can’t imagine losing a sibling so I can’t say I can relate to that. Unfortunately, I did lose a very dear friend last year. Way too young to leave this earth but nothing was left unsaid. I had my time with him and I cherished every moment. Now I’d love to have more time with my Dad but no regrets there either.
You are one determined woman Tonya and I have no doubt you’ll reach your goals. I know that the learning curve can really be time consuming but it’s a process just like everything else we have to go through right! You’ll get there, I believe in you. So does he!

So true, Adrienne. I used to bill by the hour at law firms and if you fell behind on the minimum monthly requirements, there was nothing you could do to make up for it. There are only so many hours in the month and if you got to the end and didn’t have enough, you were sunk. That made me appreciate how truly limited time is.
When you wake up in the morning, you never know what the day will hold. You might have plans and you might think you know, but real life can often get in the way. Thanks for the reminder to make the most of each day, Adrienne!

Hi Adrienne,
Awesome post and Great reminder!
It was year back, when I made myself understand that there are certain things which are beyond our control and let those things take their own course. It’s better to live in present and enjoy every moment to the fullest. We all need to value time and avoid procrastination which really is the culprit and which proves the common belief that “Man is lazy by nature”.
Thanks for sharing this great post.

Hi Sapna,
I’m so glad that you learned that some things are just out of our control. I know that a lot of people obsess over things like that but it’s not that some things aren’t important but if you can’t do anything about them then move on. Don’t let those thoughts consume you like it does some people.
We only have so many hours in the day so we need to make the best of the ones we have.
Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate that.

What an interesting analogy, Adrienne. When you put it like that, it does make you think about time a lot differently. I can’t think of anyone who would leave a single cent in that bank account, yet every day we waste time and energy on things that don’t matter. And you’re right, it doesn’t come back and you can’t use it some other time.
I started tracking my time when I work and you’d be amazed at how many minutes slip by when you don’t even realize it.
One of the things you have to do is make other people respect your time, too. That means saying “no” when you have to, or putting yourself first. We sometimes jump to take care of other people and help them out but we miss out on our own things because of it. If we respect our own time then that will extend to other people.
Love your thoughts here!

Ah, got you to thinking huh Carol! I love that.
I do know what you mean because I tract my time as well. I know that some things can come up that are out of our control while others we just need to get a better handle on them.
That’s a biggie there Carol, we need to respect our time and sometimes we just have to tell people no. It’s not that we don’t care or are being mean it’s just that we need to stay focused ourselves on what’s the most important.
Thanks for sharing this with me Carol and you enjoy your day!

Love your post here Adrienne. thanks for sharing these ideas. We all need to manage our own time better. Lately, I have been doing a lot of self evaluation and using a few tricks that I have learned to better utilize my own time.
One thing that I did was evaluating my time through the day for a couple of weeks, and realized how much time was wasted that could have been more productive, especially with the technology we now have at our disposal.
I use my Android phone to read ebooks while waiting in line at the grocery store, and have started listening to business and personal development programs in my car, which help me utilize a lot of wasted time, freeing me up at home to be more productive in my business.

Thank you James and hopefully just a quick reminder before we get too far into this month since it’s the beginning of a new year.
I read your last post James and it seems like you’ve had a lot going on last year so I hope that everything is coming together now. I often times hear people say they spent all day playing games on Facebook yet they can’t understand why they aren’t being more productive. Dah! I think everyone needs to reevaluate what’s important to them and then make a plan for moving forward. That would be the smart thing to do that is.
Sounds like you’ve got it going now. I listen to personal development stuff too when I’m out. I find it so satisfying and rewarding myself.
I appreciate you sharing that with me James and enjoy your week.

Time, precious time.
As I was trying to figure ‘social’ out it was filling a void that was usually filled with TV or something else not really important. I enjoyed it and jumped in with both feet. However, the deeper I got the harder it became for me to differentiate between fun time and time I needed to stay focused on my day-job business.
I’m still trying to find that right mix, but feel I’m in a pretty good place right now. My day job business grew by 35% last year and I started off Jan 1 with 35% of my 2013 goal in the bag; not too shabby, huh? I just need to keep the momentum going…….
Therefore, being cognizant of where my time needs to be spent in the most advantageous way for me financially, there will be some variation of me in social going forward. At times, I might look like a mere shell of the man I used to be in social, but rest assured I am flat kickin’ it on the other side of the wall.
Life is good……

I know what you mean Bill, time is precious.
I hear what you’re saying about social media. I think that has been the downfall for many people. They get obsessed with it and soon let that kind of take over their lives. I have to schedule everything but luckily for me, my business is online and a lot of it has to do with connecting with people. I can see where your day job definitely should take presidence over social media. At the same time those relationships you’re building can also help you in your offline job as well. Meeting the right people!
I’m glad you’re kickin it this year already Bill, I’m so happy for you. We miss you online but we understand. Sometimes we can’t have our cake and eat it too!

Adrienne,
This blog is full of spirit! Time is precious and we need to have that in our mindset. When asking ourselves how much time we put into a project, we must value that time.
Also, we need to take time and smell the roses. By that I mean that there are so many things off line that we need to do for ourselves and others. We can get the jitters if we spend two days off line without checking in because we know how backed up we can get. But, we can catch up a little at a time. We can pull back a bit with our online business and just go out to smile at someone.
I strongly feel this is an issue with lots of folks. Last year I had my nose stuck to my computer screen. I was on a new learning curve and also keeping up with my business.
I looked back in December and realized I was spending too much time glued there.
So, this year, I’m doing a better balancing act. Going back to the food pantry to give my time there like I did in the past. My time there is the most valuable thing I can do. Also, spending more time with my family. I have neglected that last year.
As for my business, I take it seriously and my time is valued more.
Thanks for bringing up this subject,
Donna

Hey Donna,
Yeah, I definitely want to help people realize that time is precious so let’s not waste any of it.
We can all worry about our businesses and if we’re doing enough and then neglect those around us because we’re all wrapped up in getting this progressing. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s important because this is how we make a living. I think like you just put it, we all need to step away at times and just smell the roses.
I started taking more breaks once my Mom moved in and you know what! It didn’t hurt me one darn bit. I had to reevaluate some things to see what would benefit me and what wouldn’t so I cut some things out. We all just need to take those steps from time to time so that we can breath more easily and enjoy the life that we’ve been given.
I’m glad you’ll be volunteering at the food pantry. I have another friend that does that as well and she finds it so rewarding. I probably need to find something in my area to donate my time as well. I know I would find that rewarding helping others. You know how much I love that.
Thank you Donna for sharing this.

Great message & getting carried away is usually a good thing. I can sense this is a topic that matters to you.
I lost my dad last month, so I’m totally on board with this. He was only 60 and had plenty of goals left in him. We really can’t wait forever to start.

Hey Denise,
It most definitely is a topic that matters to me a lot. I’m glad you didn’t think I was getting a little carried away with this either.
Oh Denise, I’m so very sorry about your Dad. I lost mine ten years ago next month and it still seems like yesterday. It wasn’t his time either which is why life is so precious and should never be wasted. It’s things like this happening that slap a lot of people and wake them up. I just don’t want anyone to have any regrets and have words that were left unspoken. Time is precious so I’m hoping everyone will make the best of theirs this year.
My prayers are with you Denise. It’s going to be rough for awhile. ♥

A very nice analogy Adrienne. You know, when I was younger I worked out that if you slept the recommended 8 hours a day and lived to 100 you would have slept for 33 years. I vowed to make the most of it by sleeping less than the 8 hours. Now I’m back to eight hours.
I probably don’t make the best use of every day but I’m happy with the way things are turning out

January 14, 2013 at 6:08 PM
Oh Sire, I can sleep. I probably sleep more then eight hours each night too. Okay, sometimes I don’t but I inherited that from my Dad. If I don’t get eight hours of sleep several days in a row then I make myself sick. I hate to be sick…
I pretty sure we all can say that, even the most organized person. Some things just can’t be helped.

Hi Adrienne,
Great reminder about how valuable our time is! There is so many things vying for our attention that it’s too easy to become distracted. So many times I get online to do something and as soon as I open my browser I’ve already forgotten that I had a purpose for getting the computer. Email, facebook feed, pinterest, etc. Great tools, but a major distraction!
I’ve started keeping a to-do list on a “sticky note” on my desktop. It helps somewhat, though I do still get distracted but not as much.
Here’s to a productive year!

That’s an all common thing these days Stacy. Getting distracted by everything that is pulling us in different direction. Sign up for this, get on this site, don’t miss out on this platform and we wonder how it’s hard to get everything done.
That’s great that you’re writing it all down. I’ve been doing that for years and it definitely helps me too.

Hi Adrienne…this is well said. One way we waste time is by spending it in the future and in the past.. except all the action is in the here and now. I know from experience that when I am more present i use my time better and am way more productive. Thanks for an inspiring post.

Hi Celeste,
That was very well said Celeste, most of us do spend more time in the past and the future then we do in the present. I know for me when I only focus on what’s in front of me then I’ll get a whole heck of a lot more accomplished.
It’s all about how we spend our time.
~Adrienne
Wow, comparing time with money, specifically $86,400 and 86,400 seconds, was an eye opener as I’ve never seen time in that light. Really made me pause and think about how I’m spending mine, which is mostly not very efficiently.
I’m actually adding some more really valuable resolutions in my list this year because of this realization. Thanks Adrienne. You got a new follower.

Kind of puts things in perspective doesn’t it! I mean when you look at it like money you have to spend I bet more people who make sure they spent every cent to the best of their ability and not waste one penny. I wonder why we don’t value our time in that way.
I’m so happy to hear that you’ll be adding some new resolutions this year James, glad this has inspired you to do so. Thank you for sharing that and for your comment.

Adrienne. I found this article to be soooo profound! I’m so feeling that time is running out. Not that anything bad is going to happen, it’s just that as we get older, I’m realizing as you said, time waits for no one. I’ve learned to cherish each day. Not to focus on the negative. Look forward to each and every day and live life to the fullest. I love that you’re encouraging people to start this year out right and enjoy every minute and live life to the fullest.

But looking at the grand scheme of things, more than half of my life is over and I’ll never get that back. I’ve watched things happen and been taken to new places on my journey called life. I just hope that everyone will stop and smell the roses and cherish each moment for what it is. Stop worrying about the what if’s and do what’s best for you.
I love life, I look forward to each day and I love what I’ve experienced along the way. I just hope everyone else has as well.

NO doubt about it thank god for health and time they are the only truly valuable possessions.
The best way to think about using it is like a farmer. They seem to never justify wasting time on anything. There’s always something that is needed to be done that is important to the outcome of the pending crop.
Twitter: adriennesmith40

I agree with you on that one Darnell… You can’t get your health or time back once it’s gone so take care of them both right this very minute.
That’s a good one too, a farmer. There are certain things that have to be done in order to get a good crop. There is no wasting of time where they’re concerned. I totally get that.
Thank you for adding to this conversation, I appreciate that.

WOW, those introductory words couldn’t have been any better.
Being a college student, although I haven’t failed a grade, I can tell you how important it is not to waste time throughout the year rather than just before the exams. Same applies to blogging as well, work in a planned and consistent way, you’ll see solid results. If you have a cramped schedule and try to do a lot at once, the results speak for themselves.
Speaking of time, the introduction of my ebook too gives significant importance to it. Your post came at the right time and I’m already brimming with ideas.
Thanks for sharing this post! Have a great day!

Hi Aditya,
I’m so happy to hear that, thank you.
You can relate to the college student scenario I shared. Now I wouldn’t think that you would fall into that category but you can understand how a year can really seem like an eternity if you had failed a grade. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to share some life experiences because as business owners, we need to value our time more as well. I hear so many people frustrated because they aren’t getting anywhere yet they aren’t doing the work either. Huh, wonder how they thought that would happen.
I’m happy to hear that you have something of this nature in your eBook too Aditya. It’s such an important topic wouldn’t you agree?
I appreciate your comment, thank you so much.

Hi Adrienne
You are so right, time is very precious to all of us, you can never tell what will be around the corner so we must spend our time wisely.
I make plans all the time now, if I did not do this I would just end up “wasting” time and never achieving anything, so even if I don’t get everything done one day if I can achieve say at least 80% then I am happy. more would be nice but we are only human!
Thanks for this great post Adrienne, have a great week

Hi Pauline,
It sounds like you’re very focused Pauline and that’s a good thing. In reality I don’t think anyone plans to waste time or perhaps not realize just how precious it truly is.
I saw a report the other day of a guy being interviewed that had killed a couple in a car accident because he was texting. The interviewer asked him what was so darn important in that text that he had to answer it while he was driving. Of course he said it was nothing and if he could “go back in time” he would know that now. We never think it will happen to us.
Thank you Pauline for sharing this with me and you have a great week too. I most certainly will.
~Adrienne
Hi Adrienne,
That’s a great reminder for every one! Often, we get so caught up in the daily grind that we forget what’s truly important. We feel as if there will always be another day to make up for what we are not able to do today. However, there are no guarantees in life. This moment is all that we have and we really need to give it our best!
Best,

Hi Gaori,
Thank you for visiting my blog and for sharing your thoughts with me on this subject.
You are right, most people think there is plenty of time to do whatever they want. They have all the time in the world to do what they have planned. I’m sure the people who are no longer with us thought that too. I’ve lost friends and family members way before their time, even younger then me. I know they thought they had more time too. Not that I’m trying to be morbid or anything but I just hope that others will realize that all you’re guaranteed is right here, right now.
Let’s make the best of it shall we!

Completely agree with you, time is precious. I can still remember dec` 2011, it`s like happened yesterday.
Seems like time is moving is faster than ever before. When I was in class 6th I used to wish all the time to move the time faster so that I can grow up and do something good to people of my Country!
And when I`ve done with my graduation I was waiting for a chance to get Job to do something, but now when I got a chance I don`t have time to do what I dream about.
Still am waiting for that opportunity not to earn more money but to do something BIG which can be helpful to all.
But now I`ve decided that no, am not going to wait now it`s time to act and take that chance.
I need to move myself from comfort zone and work on things which I dreamt about.
Thanks Adrienne, for such awesome post.

Hi Khaja,
I have a few dates in my mind as well that I remember like it was yesterday. I don’t dwell on them though but if someone were to say what were you doing on such and such date I could tell you. It’s ingrained in my memory.
I think when we’re kids we can’t wait to get older but then once we’re here we wish time would slow down sometimes. If only right!
Just make sure that you spend every single moment making it count, working toward your dreams. If they are big enough, the time will appear.
Thank you Khaja for your comment, I appreciate that.

Wow, I didn’t realize how many seconds were in a day Adrienne. I think it’s sad for older folks to have regrets, that’s something I hope not to have later on. I try never to look back and look ahead or in the minute that is upon us. Time surely does go by faster as we get older. I can’t believe we are in mid January already. I feel like I’ve lost some time with my arm but I know healing is necessary or I’ll have larger problems my time would be completely different.
It’s always good to think of our time first thing in the a.m. so we can accomplish what we need or to realize what’s important so we don’t miss those special moments.
Have a great day Adrienne.

Hey Lisa,
Yeah, that seems like a heck of a lot doesn’t it but when you look at it in seconds then I guess that’s definitely right. It is a lot so the time we’re awake we need to use it wisely.
I’m with you Lisa, I hope that I won’t have any regrets when I’m old and ready to meet my maker. I just have to make sure I continue to make the most out of the time I have right now.
I’m happy to hear your arm is healing because we don’t want that to set you back. See, that was a wake call right there that you need to take better care of yourself. We don’t want you looking back and regretting that you didn’t think more about your health. It’ inconvenient I know but it’s worth it.
Thank you for sharing this with me Lisa and you enjoy your week.

Hi Adrienne,
I love your accounts analogy too! Treat time as our most precise asset and treasure every moment. This is such a piece of timeless advice. You have expressed that it such a beautiful way. “You can’t borrow against tomorrow, you only have the present. You have to live on today’s deposit and invest it wisely into every opportunity.” Thanks!
We all have that 24 hours in a day. Why is it that some people can earn $10,000 a month while others earn only $1000 a month? How we use our time matters! Time invested wisely now can yield dividend for life!
Thanks, Adrienne!

Glad you enjoyed my little analogy because our time is valuable. How we spend it matters to what we’re here to accomplish. You are right when you said that is we invest our time wisely then we can be that person making $10K a month instead of $1K. It depends on what you want and how bad you want it. We all have the same amount of hours in each day.
Thank you for sharing that Viola and you enjoy your day!

Hey Michael,
Well that’s good to hear because I get on a roll and I just have to get it all out.
I’m happy to hear you’ve been that way starting as a child. I did too but it was because of different circumstances. I’ve just watched people leave this earth way too soon and learned early on that this life isn’t promised to us. We need to enjoy every second of every day no matter what it is weren’t doing.
I also know that because you have dealt with a fatal disease as well that if things weren’t in perspective they probably are now. Just wish that didn’t have to happen for some people.
Thank you Michael for sharing this with me and you have a beautiful day! Enjoy every moment.

Hi Adrienne,
What a great post!! You absolutely nailed it here, and we all need this reminder on occasion. It’s so easy to get caught up with minor details or things that don’t lead you down your path to your ultimate goal, and before you know it you’ve lost another hour or two that could’ve been productive time.
Social media is a perfect example of this. It’s one thing to spend some time on Facebook or Twitter to build your brand and work your business, but that’s not what most people do. They waste hours everyday going through their timeline and seeing what is going on in everybody else’s life. Meanwhile, they’re sucking productive time away from their employer or themselves, and that time can never be retrieved. And I’m just as guilty of this as anybody else is.
That’s one of the big things I want to work on this year, my time management. I’ve already made some small steps in the right direction, albeit baby steps in the grand scheme of things. But, it’s progress nonetheless, and if I continue moving in the right direction, I’m going to make a lot of progress this year.
Thank you for this timely
reminder to pay attention to where we spend our precious time.
I hope you have an outstanding day and week!

Hi Adrienne,
Thanks for such a great post and I love the analogy you made to a bank account with the time investment. It reminded me of a pastor who once said: “God gives us a daily cheque with 24 hours deposit”. That’s a great analogy Adrienne. I am sure most people would think about the example with money, and they would have a great plan for what to do with it. But, when it comes to time, most of us are just hurrying from one thing to the next.
I am doing my best to cherish every single day. But what I have discovered is that the more I think about time, the more stressed I feel, and the less I get done. On the other hand, I am using the pomodoro technique for work, and without thinking much about it, I am working 25 minutes at a time, and I get a lot done. But, I don’t want to plan too much, it seems to me that a lot more fun and exciting things happen when I don’t plan everything

Oh, I hate hearing that. I know you’ve been using that pomodoro technique so that’s great that it’s been working for you. I think everyone needs some sort of system.

Hi Adrienne,
Don’t apologise for ‘getting carried away.’
Time has to be the most important resource anyone has at their disposal. After all, without time how would you get anything done.
You see a lot of people who throw their time away and like you say, if you stop to think about, they’ll never get that back.
I always think everything should be balanced.
With time that balance will include many components: work, leisure, rest and many more, but the important aspect is make sure you fill your time well and have no regrets.
I love the way you liken the time in a day to a deposit account. Very clever.
Look forward to reading your next post.

Dean.

Thank you Dean, I appreciate that. I do believe this is a very important issue and one that a lot of people probably don’t take into consideration. You know, like we just know that we’ll have tomorrow and next week and next month to get things done. Sometimes that’s just not the case.
Balance, fabulous concept. A lot of us online entrepreneurs just aren’t too keen on that are we. It’s a learned thing I think, it was for me once I started working alone.
Thank you for your comment Dean, it’s greatly appreciated. Hope you’re enjoying your day and making the most of your time.

Hi Adrienne
I love this post so much. A great illustration of time and a bank account. That is powerful!
When I was younger I felt like I had forever to live. That whole immortal idea we have in our younger days. The older I get the more I like Barbara have a sense of time running out. It has really hit me last year with the loss of my lovely dog and my parents health.
I am not all that good at being in the now. I don’t dwell in the past but I have a habit of being too in the future. I have started meditating again and that helps. I also do yoga.
Another think I am working on is being on my agenda and doing the important things first.
An excellent post Adrienne I really love it.

Ah, the younger days! Back when we thought we were invincible and would live forever. I hear what you’re saying Sue and totally understand. It hits me the hardest when I lose loved ones. Although I have no regrets and feel like they knew how much I loved them, dogs included, it’s still the sense of loss that you’ll never have the opportunity to see and speak with them again.
Mediating will definitely help you get rid of a lot of that chatter in your head and help you be more present.

Hey Adrienne
I think ever since I’ve been at home with my daughter I’ve cherished time so much more. She’s growing up so fast!
I really like the sentiment of your message. It’s so easy to feel negative sometimes and to doubt yourself. I know I do sometimes. I should really stop that as soon as it happens and think about something else.
I must come clean. I am putting a few things off until later in the year. That’s when my daughter will start some sessions at nursery (kindergarten) and when I hope I’ll be able to spend more quality time on my blog etc. I usually end up doing things at the end of the day and by that time I’m too tired to think.
I think I must be on the same wavelength as Jens. I’m not so much a planner either but I do also follow the Pomodoro technique. It’s been working well for me.
Great post Adrienne and I’ll make sure I share this message.

Hey Tim,
That’s fabulous to hear Tim because they do grow up fast. My cousin’s daughter has two girls and I swear it seems they just came into this world yesterday but they are already three and four years old.
We all have doubts at times Tim but as long as you catch yourself and turn it around, you’ll continue to head in the right direction.
I know it’s much harder to build a business when you have a family. I can only imagine but I also understand what it’s like to be totally worn out by the end of the day. I could get a lot more done if I just stayed on the computer late but my mind is fried and I just need that down time.
Ah, you and Jens are following the same plan. It’s a great one. I do something similar but I do it in 50 min. increments instead of 25. It’s a good habit to form.
Thank you Tim and I appreciate that. Enjoy your week.

Great message Adrienne,
Most people don’t value their time when they have to and later they realize their mistakes as Sue said in her comment above.
I love the quote “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that is why It’s called present”. I think this is a quote from Kungfu Panda movie, Isn’t it?

Thank you Ehsan,
You are right I’m afraid, most people don’t value their time. Hopefully maybe things will change for them this year and it’s not because something horrible happened to wake them up.
I love that quote too. I have no idea who said that originally but it’s always been one that I love too.
Thank you so much and for sharing this post with your friends. You’re awesome.

Hi Adrienne,
This is very inspirational post indeed. I have seen people not taking action, forming any kind of excuse and trying to avoid learning things. They spent days for example watching TV when they could have spent a large portion of their time getting new skills.
I wish everyone takes your suggestion and utilize their time effectively. Time once gone will never return.

Hi Ashvini,
Thank you and I’m hoping to kick everyone into gear and get them moving in the right direction this year. Hey, time is wasting right! No sitting in front of the TV for me. I’ve got things to do, people to see and places to go! Yep, no regrets!
I appreciate your comment Ashvini, thank you so much.

Life is precious, life is fun and yet life can be a pain in the butt. Life is all about fails and falls but what makes you the person that you are, is the ability to rise again and learn from your mistakes. Time can never be our friend no matter how hard we try but the only thing we can do is make the most out of it and say; yes! i did do it and it was fun. This is indeed a Nice post adrienne.

Adrienne,
Absolutely wonderful article. “Time and tide wait for no man” ever words…!!
Our life graph could be well drafted based on how you respect and handle the time. Indeed, I am not so great in that art, but still trying to push myself to fit as much I can. Prioritize your schedule and giving respect is key for better time management.
Thanks for sharing the post.

I love that, thanks! Great words indeed…
You are so right about that and I think a lot of people would fail miserably but at least if we all learn from that and do better then we’re moving in the right direction.
I appreciate you sharing that with me, thank you.

This is an awesome analogy!
I look back at the way I’ve spent my time, and I try desperately hard to not feel like I wasted it because I don’t want to add on to my depression and feed that horrendous depressive state that lives inside of me. I spend each day trying to get through it.
As a victim of all sorts of child abuse according to Texas’ State Law, a second — even a minute — is another amount of time I cried, felt like I’d died, wished I’d died, wondered what was wrong with me.
As a sufferer of Major Depressive Disorder and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, every day is a struggle that sucks the life and what little energy I have left in me out of me to spend it on flashbacks and negative thoughts I lack the strength to control.
As a twenty-one year old who will be twenty-two in March, I feel helpless and hopeless because college and working and “being normal” are nearly impossible for me since I can’t concentrate or do anything I used to, and thus I look “lazy”.
Time is everything, but those who seem “normal” to me spend it getting “wasted” and partying and doing illegal things.
Thus, I guess I sometimes/oftentimes spend the rest of my time envying them.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post Liza but I didn’t mean for it to strike a nerve like that. I look at it as we can learn from our experiences and make the most of it from this day forward.
I am so very sorry you have been a victim of child abuse. I can’t even comprehend because I had such a normal childhood. My heart goes out to you but you are not your past. You can move past that and perhaps help others who have walked in your shoes.
I know we can all wish we perhaps had a better upbringing or a different situation. All we can do Liza is make the best of where we are right now. You have a choice and you can make it to have a better future. I have a friend who is clinically depressed and I know it’s a condition that’s not easy to overcome so I’m not going to insult you saying “get over it”. I just hope that you can fight through your feelings and know that you are a beautiful person and one that deserves to be loved just like anyone else.
I appreciate you sharing that with me. My prayer are with you as you deal with these issues. I have no doubt you’ll overcome them all.

Hi Adrienne. I absolutely love this article. The analogy was great and makes an impact when you think about the time we put in in terms of money. I know our value my time even more as time goes on. Life is so short and I hate feeling like need to cram everything into a certain time frame. Time is money and as entrepreneur so we must first recognize (as you’ve so clearly written it out) and then organize and make it work! Thank you for pointing it out in a way that people clearly understand.
Have a great week!

Hey Barbara,
Oh, I’m so happy to hear that!
I appreciate what you shared and I do hope that this message came across for so many other people who needed to hear this too. As entrepreneurs we really do need to get a good handle on our time and learn how to work smarter so that we can have more time to spend with loved ones and such.
Glad you shared this and thanks so much. See you tomorrow.

I like the words – Value your moments. Time is a precious thing and time. We should realize its value as lost time never comes again. If we waste our money we can earn it again, may be more than that however if we waste our time, we cannot get it.

Adrienne,
When my kids were really little I decided to try my best to live each day like it could be taken away at any given moment. This is when I decided to tell them I loved them everyday, and hug them (they are 12 and 14 now that part gets a little harder, lol).
This has spilled into my other relationships also. And I never expected it to.
I call my dad more often. I tell the people that I love that I love them. I say thank you and please more often to people I care about and have helped me. Not just because it is the polite thing to say but because that is how I want to be remembered and I want them to be happy.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to start taking advantage of time on a professional level though, I have neglected that part.

Hey Allie,
That is awesome that you do that Allie on a personal note. I always tell the people that I love how much they mean to me when I talk to them each time. Just like today, we got a call that my Mom’s cousin passed away last night. See, we never know when it’s out time. Thank goodness we’ve made it a point to have visited with them more often. See, no regrets.
I think just the building relationships online and telling people how much you appreciate them will roll over to your professional side too. People want to know they are appreciated you know. They’ll definitely pay more attention when you come back around.
Thank you for sharing that with me Allie, I appreciate that and glad I was able to give you a small reminder to bring it on over here as well.

Hello Adrienne, Hello,
We must be running with similar “bio-rhythms!!!” I had a “month from hell” at about the same time. Mine was due to household mechanical difficulties mixed with an entire gaggle of website technical issues and YOU were actually my “Ashvini” by helping me out with a WordPress setting that I could not have screwed up any worse than I did. Thank you for your help with that. Now if I only knew how to drop a little 1.5″ X 1.5″ ad in my side column – I would be ecstatic…if I could figure that one out by the time I go in to work tonight at 10 PM.
How far behind am I? It would take an hour to explain and who would want to hear about it anyways. In fact this morning my post was about Molly, my mini-Schnauzer and our walk in sub-zero temps at 3:20 am!! …and I have a fitness website/blog! Why was I writing about glaciers? Now, I’m just getting to your January posts…that’s how far behind I am. It’s somewhat reassuring to know that there are others that have some stressy times as well. I just wish I was a few months further down the “learning curve!!”

Hey there Les,
Well I’m sorry to hear you had issues with things too, don’t we all. Glad to have helped and since I’m a day late responding to this then I wasn’t able to help you with getting that ad up. They have plug-ins for that but I create my own tables. Might be a little over your head but welcome to show you if you want.
Sub zero temperatures. I would have to teach Kayla to go out on a potty pad my friend. No way I’m going out in weather like that. I know I need the exercise and we walk daily which is why I live where I do. Burrrrrrr
People who hold down full time jobs I so admire. I don’t know where they find the time so being behind reading my posts, you’re forgiven my friend. So forgiven.
Enjoy your week Les and always great to see you.
