Hi Adrienne,

I, like you, have been dragging my feet in regards to changing my Facebook page. I’m glad you shot this video in order to ease the process for people like me. You’re right, it’s better to be in control instead of just letting it happen. I will be checking out others comments regarding how to create the big photo in the timeline.

Thanks for the post and the video!

Hi Jamella,

I know I’m not the only one but a lot of my friends did take the plunge. Although I really didn’t want to do it because there’s no going back I didn’t want Facebook to be in control. At least I have 7 days to play around before it goes completely live so I’m sure within that time I’m going to figure out that photo size. I already know that if no one responds here in the comments to help me that I’m going to go ask Brankica. I love hers…

Thanks Jamella and I say jump on in. The water isn’t too bad! 😉

Adrienne, I jumped in the water today. You’re right, it’s not too bad. Love the drum roll!!

Congratulations Jamella, glad it went smoothly for you. And, glad you liked my little drum roll. Me too! :-)

Hi Adrienne

As always very informative video from you but…..

I absolutely hate the new layout and have been avoiding it at all costs (lol).

I thought it was supposed to give it a more personal feel but it looks like more of a magazine type theme to me.

No guesses needed then as to if I’ve upgraded because I haven’t and am probably gonna be one of the people that get’s forced into it…

So when I do, I will be back to watch your video again (lol).

Have a fab day misses

January 5, 2012 at 9:30 AM

Hi Dawn,

Well you can tell I’ve been dragging my feet too. It’s definitely going to take some getting use to and I don’t like the layout myself. But eventually you aren’t going to have any choice.

If you have no older posts or photos you want to hide from everyone then I say don’t change over until they do it for you. I didn’t have anything to hide myself so for some it can be a time consuming process to go back through. When you switch over your photo at the top is blank so once we learn what the darn dimensions are you can have that ready to upload when that time comes. I love my dog but that’s now what I want up there. I’ve got to work on that for sure.

You take as long as you want Dawn. Thanks for sharing your thoughts though. Nice to know I’m not the only one still.

7 Megan January 5, 2012 at 8:22 AM

Adrienne – thank you for the how-to!

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the new format yet. I hate to be one of those “change-my-interface/change-my-life” kind of people, but, well, my fiancee put it succinctly:

“We’re not all interesting enough for a magazine layout! What’s wrong with chronology?”

For myself, I’m pretty open to it, overall – I’m biased, but most of the people I know are interesting enough for magazine layout. (Actually, most people will think that. Objection withdrawn.) Getting started a little in advance is a good idea because the learning phase is a pain in the butt. I just want to look at baby pictures and invite the ladies over for cocktails and mud-masks, man.

8 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 9:22 AM

Hi Megan,

I get that Facebook wants us to have easy access to maybe locate something we may have posted about two months ago or maybe even a year prior so with this timeline setup it might help that. But I find the two column layout rather confusing because you are going side to side trying to read everything. And then if you posted something four years ago you don’t want seen now you have to go back and hide it. So with you being in control of switching it over you have 7 days to clean all that up. When Facebook does it for you, you are scurrying. So for me, it was time to just jump on in.

Your husband is right, we aren’t all that interesting enough for a magazine layout. Oh if only!

Glad to hear that you are more open to the change. I applaud you for that. Me, not so much! :-)

9 Timons Cabansi January 5, 2012 at 8:29 AM

Hi Adrienne! =)

And Yap! I have put Timeline in my Facebook now and guess what? It is Great at First and it is more greater if you use it more, the best things you can see in timeline is the photos are more larger and you would also see the months when it was uploaded.

The Great things about Timeline is it is really easy to put it to your FB profile Page and it ads up coolness too.. but people who don’t like this Timeline Page are the old coots.

10 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 9:24 AM

Hey Timons,

You’re darn right those photos are bigger. Don’t put one up of you if you don’t want people to see every single detail on your face! lol… Wow!!

Who are you calling an old coot? Ouch! Okay, okay, I’ll get use to it. It’ll just take me some time. I’ll come around though, I always do.

11 Timons Cabansi January 6, 2012 at 8:36 AM

Adrienne =’0),

The internet is fast phasing now and it will never go to a slow mode that is why things on the big G (Mighty Google) even can’t cope up with the trend because Facebook is like beating them up.

So we must always go to the good trend and not to fight this new currents that is coming to Facebook.

Also I don’t mean to call you an old coot but I probably just read this comments about “I don’t like this TimeLine Page!” from old people hehe that is why maybe I have said this on my comment!

Let Us All Be Flexible

12 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 9:12 AM

Hey Timons,

I admit it Timons, I’m an old coot by regular standards. I’m not ashamed to admit my age and I am over 50 now. I grew up in the age where of course there was no technology and home computers didn’t even come on the scene until the 1975. Of course they were very expensive back then so they didn’t make their way into every household until much later. The first office job I had didn’t even have computers. I don’t think I started working on one until the mid 1980’s and trust me, there was no internet. So I guess you could say I’ve been through it all and it was very uncomfortable to me. I didn’t grow up with any of that and it was not my area of expertise. I’ve slowly but surely started learning a lot more about it which I guess is why I’m not that big on change. I get comfortable with something, finally learn how to get around in it and they up and change it again. It’s never ending my friend.

Very timely post and great job on the video.

I already switched over a week or so ago. I am with you I figured it was coming whether I liked it or not so I had better get it done before they did it for me.

I thought switching was going to be allot harder than it was. My experience with Facebook updated is they are not easy to do or understand. Maybe the Facebook bigwigs are getting the idea that we need simple.

The picture that I use for my big picture is 2272×1704 and it fits really well. I think the whole picture is on there. They might of cropped some off of the height but none off the width and it is not distorted. I think it needs to be a really big picture.

I like the picture of Kayla you have on yours. I put a picture of my farm. I really love that place, it is so beautiful out there. Makes me sad to think other people are living in my dream home now but so is life.

Great post and thanks for the info.

Dee Ann

January 5, 2012 at 9:35 AM

With a new year might as well go with a new profile right! I didn’t switch over until I was ready to shoot this video and put this post up. I wasn’t sure if we were still going to be given the 7 days to play around or not so I guess I could have done it a little sooner now. Live and learn right!

I did to actually because I heard a lot of complaints that people couldn’t find where to locate things so I thought I was going to run into that. But it ended up being relatively easy and I haven’t had any problems locating anything so far.

I had created my photo really big but when I uploaded it it cut it off and the first one I did was the 1200 width. So why is that not working for me? This is going to drive me nuts but thanks for letting me know your dimensions. I’m going to have to play around with that some more.

I love Kayla too but I really don’t want that huge photo of her. I had created a collage of a few things I felt represented me but until I can get this size thing figured out it’s not happening. By the way, can you see my timeline when you visit my profile? Just curious because it said I have 7 days before it goes live.

Thanks for your suggestions Dee Ann, I appreciate that. Will have to go check out your farm. :-)

17 Dee Ann Rice
January 5, 2012 at 11:16 AM

Yes your timeline is live. I see it when I visit your site. They told me that I had 7 days also but not sure if they really gave it to me.

18 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 11:19 AM

So obviously we don’t have the 7 days to try it out before it goes live which is what I was wondering. Oh well, now I better get to finding a decent photo for my cover.

Thanks for letting me know.

January 5, 2012 at 8:55 AM

Hi, Adrienne. Your video is really helpful. Like others, I am waiting until forced to change to the timeline. I’m mostly hesitating on what to put in that big photo on the top. I spent a lot of time putting artwork in the photostrip on the top of the current layout, and I don’t really feel like putting in that much energy again.

22 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 9:38 AM

So happy to hear that Leora, I wasn’t exactly sure what was involved. I thought it was going to be harder then it was because I heard so many people freaking out about not being able to locate things.

I’m with you, I liked my photo of my URL so how what the heck do I put there. I did come up with a collage of things but I probably need someone to create something for me. I’m just not good at that but just beware. I would start figuring out what you want so at least you are prepared for when the time comes.

23 Ruth
January 5, 2012 at 10:08 AM

I think I might just generally have an issue with change. I just upgraded to the new Wordpress today. And I can’t stand the Timeline layout – it thoroughly confuses me. So I’m staying put with the old version for the time being. And when I can’t hold out any longer…I will DEFINITELY head over here and refer back to your video. It’s like having my hand held through the trauma :-).

24 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 10:21 AM

I sympathize with you Ruth, I’m not big on change either. I’m usually just forced into it and then I gripe a lot but eventually get over it. I’ll look back and think what was the big deal? It was uncomfortable, that’s all. But I don’t like the timeline layout and although I will get use to it, I still don’t like it. So hold out as long as you want.

I wish they would have given us a deadline. I just don’t understand all their darn secrecy. That in itself is so annoying to me! ;-(

Hi Adrienne,

Fun tutorial! You know how to put a smile on my face :)

At first, I didn’t like the new changes of the timeline versus the old profile. But now I love it! I especially love the fact that you can go “back in time” to view older posts that you might have missed.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

26 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Hi Ilka,

Did you like my drum roll? I had to prepare myself in some way and thought that might do it just in case things went bad. :-)

I hope I get to that point because even as I have visited other people’s pages that have the timeline set I still don’t like the double column layout. If I missed something on someone’s page I want to find, I just email them and ask. I don’t waste my time going back but that’s just me. Oh well, I’ll get use to it eventually I suppose.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and glad you are enjoying it now.

January 5, 2012 at 10:39 AM

Thanks Adrienne for this. When it comes to social media updates and stuff I tend to drag my feet, because, sometimes they can be confusing and not helpful.

Like for example, try to find the RSS feed of your twitter page! I have never been able to do that since they updated their looks  Thanks for the video which makes it way either as well.

28 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 11:17 AM

You are so welcome Sylviane.. I know, they can really be confusing it we aren’t an expert in all things social media.

With the new update they quit showing your RSS feed but this post may help you understand how you can find it.

Hope that helps! :-)

29 Sylviane Nuccio
January 6, 2012 at 7:12 AM

Ok, let me try again. I’ve been trying to reply to this comment yesterday, but the javascript wouldn’t let me :)

Thanks, Adrienne for this link, I will read the post. Also, I went ahead and switch to the new Facebook look (thanks to you). I am like you I am not crazy about “change” :) I think it looks good though!

What you said about my twitter icon on my writing blog, was it the one on the side bar? I tried it and it worked… didn’t that worked for you?

30 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 9:00 AM

I get that problem sometimes too Sylviane and my Java script is up to date. That really chaps me too. Urggggg….

Bravo Sylviane and I’m glad you like that look. I guess I’ll get use to it.

I’m talking about the TweetMe button at the top of your post. On both of your sites you don’t have your Twitter ID included which means when someone retweets your content, you don’t know about it. When you aren’t aware, people won’t usually take the time to share it. Make sense?

Hey, enjoy your day okay! :-) I’ll see you soon.

Nice drum roll. I saw Christian in your top stories.
I feel kind of silly. I’m not sure i should even admit this in public but i had no idea this was happening :( However, from your tour i think i actually like it and i like that feature where you can limit your past posts to current friends.
Good job on the video. what are you using to record it. I like the panning in and out to show what you are pointing at and talking about. I don’t have to lean in and squint to see it.
Happy new year Adrienne. When are you coming to Marseille?

32 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 11:40 AM

Hey Annie,

Thanks, I thought that would be fun. Yep, Christian will always remain at the top of my list. What an awesome guy!

Well girl, you’re off in France now having a big old time so keeping up with what’s happening over at Facebook isn’t exactly top priority for you right now! 😉 But, they can’t help but throw so many updates at us and your profile layout will be changing. It’s just a matter of time and no one knows when it will happen but people have been able to play around with this since September. I can’t see them waiting too much longer which is why I was surprised when they didn’t implement this in January.

You like my video? I use Camtasia and I think with any video tutorial you need to be able to zoom in and show people what you are talking about because some of those videos I can’t see what they are showing me because it looks like the top of a pin needle. So darn tiny! If you are interested in trying it out they’ll give you access for 30 days for free. After that it costs $299 but it’s definitely worth it. There isn’t an affiliate program attached so here’s the link if you’d like to check it out or whenever you get ready.

Thanks Annie and Happy New Year to you too. Well, if you are staying there for maybe more than a year I might have to come visit. I’ve always wanted to see France and what better way to do it then have a trusted friend show you around. I’m so jealous!

33 Annie Andre
January 5, 2012 at 1:07 PM

35 Harleena Singh
January 5, 2012 at 12:32 PM

Just what I needed Adrienne!

Loved the way you took us around in the video, making our work so much easier :)

To be very honest, I am just like you in some ways and hate to try out new stuff- until its really the last choice! I guess its any-day comfortable to remain in the older version of Facebook, but again, that is because I haven’t yet tried the new one :) And I was looking out for a post that would explain me things in an easy way, whether I should shift or not.

I did see a few of my friends and the way they had done up their profiles, though I didn’t like the large sized photographs that take so much of place. However, it is wonderful for those who love to share photographs with each other.

I would truly prefer to remain as I am presently, till I really have no choice but to switch over to timeline :) I guess I am more used to the older version presently and would really need to devote more time into learning about the new one. Or may be I get motivated by your experiences and take the plunge :)

Thanks so much for sharing and have a wonderful day :)

36 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 1:06 PM

That’s great to hear Harleena. So I take it you haven’t made the move over either? :-)

I was looking for something too that would walk me through it but all I found were written posts that just touched on the highlights. I finally found a video and was so excited but she had already switched and didn’t realize that she couldn’t go back to walk everyone through it so once again, I was out of luck with one taking me through all the steps. Which is why it’s probably taken me this long to actually do this myself. I hate the unknown.

I would have rather stayed with the older version too Harleena until the very last minute but no one knows when that will be. I also hate not being in control of when the switch will be so like I stated in my video, I didn’t want to wake up one morning to be shocked that it changed. Heck, I’m going to have to get use to it anyway it might as well be sooner than later.

I think they are putting way too much emphasis on the top photo too. Not sure why they would set it up like that but let’s be honest, how many “normal” everyday people take landscape photos? I mean come on… We aren’t a graphics designer so finding one that fits is not some small feat. Oh well…

Take your time and enjoy it while it lasts. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that for your sake it will be another couple of months.

Thanks Harleena and have a wonderful day as well.

Adrienne, aloha. Thanks so much for leading the way. Though I knew I was going to have to do i sooner or later, I must confess to kicking, screaming and dragging my feet. Now, because of yet another great tutorial by you, I can go fearlessly where I have not gone before.

Adrienne, I am sooooo glad you are so brave. For me the Flinch is still alive and well when it comes of things of this nature.

Before I even finished writing this comment, I sent an e-mail to a friend with a link to this post because they were “scared” to touch the timeline yet knew they had to do. What a relief is was to say “Fear Not. Adrienne saved us.”

Wishing you sunshine and smiles, always. Aloha. Janet

38 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 2:28 PM

I was kicking and screaming all the way too Janet which is why I had to have fun with this and just jump on in. I really thought that I was going to find goodness knows what on the other side but low and behold, not much difference. I had heard so many horror stories about this switch too!

You??? Still flinching??? Surely I read that wrong! I’m so surprised to learn that Janet? Have no fear, I’ll jump in first so you’ll be able to see that it’s not so bad. If there is anything else you are still flinching about, let me know so I can shoot a video so you can see it’s not so bad. :-)

Hope your friend finds this one helpful too.

Thanks for the comment and the well wishes. Have a beautiful day Janet!

39 Jack
January 5, 2012 at 2:15 PM

Hi Adrienne,

I am not a fan of the timeline. I am tech savvy but that sucker feels big, ponderous and unwieldy. Given the choice I might not ever change over but FB is clearly not going to give me that choice.

OTOH, the way they change things I am not sure how long this option will stick around anyway.

40 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 2:32 PM

Aha… I’m not the only one so do you think is’t an age thing? Maybe the older we get the worse we like change? They need me to come work for them because some of the stuff they come up with I’m still confused as to their reasoning. I’ve said it numerous times but I don’t like the huge photo across the top of the page and I hate the two columns. Wasn’t this change suppose to be for the better? I mean how much clearer can you be about reading what people share then it actually going in the order that it was posted. I’m just saying!

Beware my friend because sooner or later you are changing whether you want to or not. But you’re right Jack, don’t worry about it because it will just change yet again. I’m sure none of it will be for our convenience.

41 Deeone
January 5, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Good day Adrienne,

Congrats on getting the timeline. Yay!! :) I absolutely loved the video! My favorite part of it was the drum-roll! That made me smile. :)

I was one of those that jumped on the Beta of the Timeline. I couldn’t wait. When Mark presented it a couple of months ago, I knew I wanted to add it. I’m loving mine! The only thing about it is that a lot of the images that I wanted to use as a cover I can’t use them because they’re usually too small. It’s no big deal though, I simply just keeping plugging in photos that will work.

As you can probably see from my profile, I love to use the Quote images. It sorta shares with my friends my personality and it also provides me with inspiration and motivation throughout my day.

I’m glad that you shared this with your readers though. It’ll be interesting to see what will happen when Facebook goes through with the changes and makes it permanent. I wonder what other changes they have in store. I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned, huh? :)

Thanks again, my friend. Totally enjoyed the post.

42 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 5:13 PM

Well hey there Deeone!

Ah did you like my drum roll!!! I was trying to figure a better way to implement that one but no luck. I think I’m going to have to incorporate it into all of my videos now when I do things like this since I have no idea how they will turn out. I scare myself sometimes. lol…

I thought about it but since I didn’t really like the layout I decided to put it off a while longer. I still don’t like it but I know the time is coming that it’s do or die.

Once I find a program that it easy to use so we can create our own images for the cover photo I’ll shoot a video on that. I’m not a graphics person but I do love to learn so I’m going to figure this out one way or the other so stay tuned.

I’m with you there, I love the quotes too. You’ve just given me a great idea so thanks for that Deeone.

I have some friends that are still uneasy with switching it over so they are already sharing this video. I think it’s the unknown and what to do when you get to the other side that have people uneasy. Heck, I was.

Thanks Deeone and enjoy your evening. Get to feeling better okay!

43 Ed Welch January 5, 2012 at 4:16 PM

Hi Adrienne,

How timely was your post? I only recently, like today, was reading an article about Timelines in Facebook, and thinking that I must have a look. From what I read a lot of people don’t particularly like this change. Worst still, as usual it seems to be forced upon us. I ‘m not change averse, I do embrace change. That comes with working in the IT industry.
I just hate the way the big boys impose these changes whether we like them or not. And I particularly hate it when things are working just fine. What ‘s the old saying “If it aint broke then don’t fix it” It strikes me as though they are trying to think for us. That is always a mistake. Shouldn’t they be asking us, as users, what we want and them supplying it? Isn’t that the model we use? Or should be using.
Take care,

44 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 5:18 PM

Hey Ed,

Well, at least you know that when you do switch over that it’s no big deal. Good to hear that you are okay with change. You are one of the few. :-)

I agree, if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it. I think the problem is that they want to always continue to make it better but their version of better and our version of better are two very different definitions. I just think those guys are bored over there so they just keep playing around. I’ve lost count how many times they’ve updated things since I joined them back in 2007.

Facebook is the most user unfriendly site I’ve ever been a part of. Their FAQ area is horrible, they have no support whatsoever and they have no place for the users to go to voice their opinions. If they do, I’m totally ignorant of where the heck it is so if someone knows please do fill me in. Would love to learn where I can complain! 😉

Thanks Ed and hopefully you’ll be switching soon too.

45 Kirsten Lodge
January 5, 2012 at 5:55 PM

Hi Adrienne

I installed the timeline a while ago so have had a chance to get used to it. The pros for me are – I love the header photo! I didn’t have any problems installing the photo but I did use a large file size… around 4mb I think. I like that you can have a main photo (the header) and then a smaller one within that. I also like that I can click back on the timeline (not that I would use this often). I also like that my credentials are easy to see at the top just underneath the main photo.

What I don’t like is that it has taken a long time to get used to finding my list of friends, photos, etc. I think they have a bit of work to do on the design of that. Also if people comment underneath one another, you can’t respond to each comment (I’m not sure if this has always been the case). But as you know and recommend, I like being able to respond to each person not as a group.

As a whole, I’ve become a bit disenchanted with FB. I really dislike the language they use in their security and privacy sections. Sometimes I wonder what I’m signing up to.

But then again, I’m a social media-holic so it’s still fun to play with!

46 Adrienne Smith
January 5, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Hey Kirsten,

Ah, you brave soul! So glad you did and are able to give us your likes and dislikes about it.

I think I’m having problems with the dimensions. I’ve gotten three different sizes now but none of them fit exactly. I’ll still play with it though, I’m not giving up.

I agree, I do like that my credentials are easier to locate now.

I don’t like the way they set up the list of friends either but that changed a little while ago so that took some getting use to. It changed whether you changed over to the timeline or not. And for the commenting, you’ve never been able to comment on each thread, it’s always been you can reply to someone in the comment section but not to an individual reply. I’ve never like that either.

Facebook is not very user friendly in the respect of support so I can understand why you would be disenchanted with their language. I visualize everyone working at Facebook as Mark’s age and all techie geeks who don’t know how to work for the people, only from a tech point of view. That’s just my perception so don’t shoot the messenger… 😉

I’ll continue to use them too Kirsten because like anything else, we just all have to put up with change if we want to continue socializing.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate that.

In addition to being a knuckle dragger, I think I will drag my feet on this one.

I haven’t been an early adapter on anything, so this will be no different. I was really barely using FB until I started cross-connecting w/ my Twitter friends in the past few month.

I loved your video, especially when you laughed at yourself. Thanks for sharing; hope all is well.

48 Adrienne Smith

I don’t blame you Bill but isn’t it good to know that once you make that switch that it’s really no big deal? Heck, you’ll find your way around just fine.

I laugh at myself ALL the time Bill. If I didn’t you might have heard a lot of cussing going on instead. That would not have been a good thing. Especially on video. :-)

Thanks for dropping by and hope you’ve been enjoying your week.

Hey Adrienne!

Boy I just got Timeline too! I thought “gee that looks cool” As of today I can’t change my profile pic lol I keep “Clicking” the button for it but It’s a no Well, Let’s hope it kicks in ! I am not a fan of change. Had enough in the past 4 years. I would like some “quiet time” now lol.. Oh well, keep moving forward right? Maybe Facebook is thinking that too?
Thanks for an informative post! Nice to know I’m not alone! lol You made me laugh ! Always appreciated! C’ya later :)

Hey Colleen,

Congrats for switching over. So you can’t change your cover photo? Now that’s really odd. I would just close out of Facebook and then open it again and see if you can. When you hover over the photos that icon should come up and then you can go from there. Maybe Facebook is just testing you but I think you’ll pass.

Oh, good luck with that quiet time. Just when you think everything is settling down, bam! Surprise! :-) But this time we want it to be a good change. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Glad I was able to make you laugh. That put a smile on my face. :-)

Hi Adrienne,

I haven’t made the switch yet, but I guess it’s time to do it. Your video is awesome, and it makes it so much easier.

I’m still not using Facebook every single day, but I keep telling myself that I need to do it, because every single person I know are using it all the time :)

Thanks a lot for creating the tutorial.

54 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 8:49 AM

Hi Jens,

If you don’t use it that much then I wouldn’t bother. But it will freak you out when the change is implemented if you aren’t over there much. Hopefully my video will help some. If you have any questions after that, give me a shout. I’m figuring more things out as I go along.

It’s nice to be on the main social networks but if you like Twitter better then stick with that. It’s not like you aren’t getting enough attention to your blog but you can get even more when you start meeting new people on Facebook too. To me it’s just easier to have a real conversation over there.

Will be on the lookout for you switch. Take care Jens and have a wonderful weekend. :-)

55 Joe Lampo January 5, 2012 at 11:41 PM

Hi, Adrienne! Great post here! Glad to see you included your baby! Excellent move. One of my cats, Toasty Toesies, likes to drape himself across my neck and shoulders. I should have Barbara take a video of me so I can include him on the blog when it goes live. You should keep his photo on the header. It is a special person who does that.

I was not aware of a timeline on Facebook. I rarely ever visit FB, but perhaps I should do so once in a while. You have a good way with the video production. You must be comfortable with it as you do a great job.

I am contemplating buying a Flipcam and am thinking about incorporating a video on my first blog when the site goes live. Seems like an interesting challenge to tackle. You make it look easy.

Excellent work. Stay well

Hi Joe,

Well, Kayla looks a lot cuter then me Joe. I kind of get tired of looking at myself to be honest with you. But I do have plenty of photos of her up in my photo section. Last year my Mom made her a sweater and I took a bunch of shots of her in that. She loved wearing it but this year it hasn’t gotten that cold.

I bet a video of that would be so cute. You’ll have to get your wife to do that. We animal lovers would really enjoy that.

Facebook is a fabulous way to connect with people so you should visit it more often. Not only can you find new friends but people who can eventually be interested in what you have to offer. You can even connect with them due to your love of animals.

I’ve been doing videos now for quite some time so I guess you could say I’m pretty use to shooting them now. I don’t know if I’ll ever truly be professional in all of them. It just goes to show that you can just be yourself and still share some good helpful information.

That’s what I use to shot all of my videos with me in front of the camera. Plus my FlipCam is probably about three years old now and it still shoots great videos I think. I get a lot of compliments on the quality. They are inexpensive and you can plug them right into your USB port. I say go for it.

Thanks Joe, I appreciate the comment. Talk soon.

Hi Adrienne,

happy 2012 to you!!!

Yes, I switched to the new profile as soon as it was out. I thought -just like you- eventually everyone will get it, so why not do it right away?! I really like it. It took a me a while to get used to all the previous changes because my wall was so cluttered that I had to organize all my peeps in groups and that was sooo much work. I spent days on it and I am still making changes.
More often, I was thinking, I need the DISLIKE button for all the changes because it took me so long. But now I am quite happy and it all makes sense again.

Thanks for the walk-through video!

Hi Franziska,

Happy New Year to you as well my wonderful friend! Hope you had a wonderful time ringing in the new year.

I saw that you had switched over because you have your beautiful artwork in your cover photos. Great way to show off your work don’t you agree?

I don’t like change and I don’t like the new profile look which is why I drug my feet. And look, we are four months in and they still haven’t switched over permanently so we got to hang on to the old look as long as possible. Wondering when the switch will come for good though.

Are you talking about putting your friends in lists? I started doing that some time back and it’s my way of keeping up with everyone. If you aren’t in a list then I don’t have a relationship and I continue to unfriend those people. I’m going to get my profile cleaned up for good soon. It’s taken me quite some time too.

Enjoy your day and have a wonderful weekend Franziska… I need to stop by and visit you soon so be on the lookout!

59 Franziska San Pedro

I do the same, I “clean” up all the time -I am getting better at it! And yes, I mean friends’ lists, they really make sense and I am missing less of my most important buddies. Before that, some of them wouldn’t even appear in my timeline and that’s better now

Ahhhh, thanks Adrienne! I was looking for this! :)

A very in-depth tutorial, bravo, and thank you 😀

You find these helpful for blowing up images, but I have not tried them personally (I’m a photoshop superstar. — Actually, if you’d like a photo blown up, I’d love to do it manually for you.)

61 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 11:17 AM

Hey Jason, so glad you found me! :-) I was looking for this exact thing too for awhile and totally struck out! Dang it!

I’m jealous, a photoshop superstar. At my last job I was introduced to photoshop but do you know that none of the people in that office at that time had the patience to teach me because they said it took them over two years to learn it themselves? Hey, I’m a fast learner with some stuff but that layering stuff is so over my head. I applaud you my friend.

I’ll give some of these a try and if they don’t work, can I come back to you? I appreciate you offering, that so generous of you.

Thanks for this link and have a super duper day! :-)

62 Jason Fonceca
January 6, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Seriously, Adrienne, if you want we can skype and I’ll teach you how to do some stuff. You’ve already given me so much through your blog and engagement, I appreciate the opportunity to give back.

And really… it’s so. easy. You’ve accomplished so much that’s way more challenging. And it’ll open up lots of possibilities for your art 😀

I also applaud people learning on their own, so whatever suits, lemme know.

63 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 11:50 AM

Oh Jason, I’m laughing so loud over here as I read your response. Ridiculously easy! Seriously? Maybe it’s because I’ve never found one person or tutorial that explained it so that I would really understand since I admit some of that language is so over my head.

Unfortunately I don’t have Photoshop anymore since I just got this new computer last month. My sister had let me use her program so I don’t have it to upload again. Right now I’m using Gimp and Pixlr which are probably similar in nature. I just use the paint program for cropping and stuff.

You are SO kind Jason, I really appreciate that. That’s so very nice of you to say, I’m so touched. So could you help me if I’m using one of these other programs? I know that the layering and stuff is similar to Photoshop or I can wait and borrow my sisters program again. I won’t see her until the end of the month though. She has Photoshop Element 6.0. That’s all I know about it.

Thanks for your help, again you are too kind. You’ve made my day though! :-)

64 Jason Fonceca
January 6, 2012 at 11:59 AM

Beautiful, I’ve taught pixlr to clients before, and could teach that easily, its simimlar to photoshop, but the intuitive feel of Photoshop is… well… epic.

Gimp I barely recall. lol.

If you want Photoshop, they offer free 30 day trials of CS5 on their site:

If you want to learn something in pixlr, lemme know, I’m down 😀

I should point out “enlarging photos” can easily ruin the quality, and pixlr’s ability to enlarge is nowhere near photoshop’s :)

65 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 12:10 PM

I’ve heard that Photoshop well, there is no comparison. But I would think if you are a graphics person and you are creating things for people’s sites then you would probably want to go with the best. As for me, I just like to create something every here and there and although I would like it too look like a professional did it, I’m okay with the next best thing. Personally, I’m not spending almost a thousand dollars for a program I don’t have to have. I’m terribly budget conscious Jason.

I will probably stick with Pixlr for now since I think I can get around in that one okay. I wouldn’t want to enlarge a photo in Pixlr but actually create the actual size. So maybe I’ll take you up on your offer. I’ll give you a shout about that okay?

Thanks Jason…I really appreciate you doing that for me. I sure hope you have a lot of patience.. :-)

66 Jason Fonceca
January 6, 2012 at 12:38 PM

Yep, totally understand. Pixrl’s great for collages too 😀

As for patience, I have tons but it won’t be necessary. It’s so easy and you’ve demonstrated Way More Than Adequate learning and retention through blog, and even Facebook Tutorial :)

We’ll rock it, I’ve taught so many, all completely noobs :)

My skype is “ryzeonline”, and I’m available for the next 2 hours, then I’ll be away from PC. (at 3:45pm EST)

Ah thanks Jason… I was on a call myself so today’s definitely out for me. But I’m going to play around in it a bit this weekend and if I can’t figure it out then I’ll hit you up for some instructions. Deal?

Thanks so much for offering. I’ll send you a Skype invite anyway because I have a feeling I’ll be catching up with you soon. :-) So much for my positive thinking right!

Hey Adrienne, well you stuck by your guns and produced another video for Youtube this year, and a very informative one too. I will be sure to check back when I update next week that’s for sure. It will sure be a case of new time line new beginning for me.

Nice to see another video from you Adrienne, I had mine planned for yesterday until I hit disaster. I was just one of those days when it all just went wrong. For some reason I couldn’t login to Aweber? A total mystery? It looks like my ISP has fixed the issue, but not before I pulled my hair out 😀

Thanks Adrienne,

January 6, 2012 at 11:55 AM

I most certainly did Dan and my first one of the year. I’ve got a few more up my sleeve to for this month so stay tuned. Guess that’s why I waited until now to update to the timeline. Great way to start the new year wouldn’t you agree?

I had that problem not too terribly long ago. Now I have all my password information in two different places just in case for some odd reason my mind has a brain fart and it just goes blank. But they kept telling me my password wasn’t right and I was really starting to lose my religion with them. Oh sure, I could have just as easily reset it and kept on going but I knew it was right and I didn’t want to run into this problem again so I just picked up the phone and called them. Problem solved! Next! :-)

Hope you have everything going good for you today Dan. These types of things are never welcomed in the middle of accomplishing a task.

Have a great day and a super duper weekend. :-) Thanks for stopping by and sharing this with me.

I took the plunge and switched over to the new timeline as soon as it was launched in beta mode back in September. Since it was in beta only those who were signed up as a coder for Facebook could make the switch and see others who have made the switch.

So after a few days I was able to get pretty used to the new timeline. My first picture was a simple swipe of my blog header…why not continue the branding thing right? But I may be switching it to a more family style picture later.

Now I have heard people love it or they just don’t care for it. Like anything that changes there’s always the annoyance for some and the full on acceptance with others. I’ve been on both sides of the fence when it comes to constant changes though.

75 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 3:12 PM

I thought about that when it was introduced but I didn’t really like the timeline layout so thought I would hold off as long as I could. But it’s a new year and I thought it’s time now.

I tried to do one of my header but I ran into so many problems with the dimensions. I sized it like I was told, three different times, and none of them came in right. They were too darn big so I’ll have to play around with that this weekend I guess.

I think I’m on the side of not liking it. Oh, I’ll get use to it but it doesn’t mean I have to like it. If only things were that easy right!

Thanks Ken and glad you are an old pro with this new theme now. I might be coming to you for help if I get in a bind. :-)

Have a great weekend with the family!

January 6, 2012 at 2:20 PM

I have to say on my personal Facebook I took the change as soon as it became available, as I much prefer it to the old look. I felt the old way was very much straight-line and not very ‘out-there’. With the cover I think it looks a lot better, and I can’t wait to see what amazing things people can put on their cover part, this is where the art type will shine.

It also allow you to get a bigger picture of a person with it showing messages on both sides, which is another plus point.

As will all Facebook updates, everyone is going to complain for the first couple of weeks, after that everyone will love it. I guess that’s what happens with all change!

77 Adrienne Smith
January 6, 2012 at 3:21 PM

I think the view on the new look might also be a generational thing Simon! By that I mean the older we are, the more we prefer the straight line stuff. We just aren’t so use to technology as much, not that we can or haven’t learned. I think it’s just in our nature. But we’ll still use it, just dislike it as we do.

I don’t think it’s going to grow on me afraid. But who knows, I might surprised even myself. I love that when that happens.

Have a great weekend Simon.

Thanks for sharing that with us. Always good to hear what others think.

82 Jayne Kopp
January 7, 2012 at 1:41 AM

Hi Adrienne, thanks for leading the way. I’m not looking forward to it to be honest either. It looks confusing to me. I like seeing my posts in list style. And what about groups….? are they still visible?

urrgh, I know it’s only a matter of time before we are all used to it but it is quite a substantial change. I wonder why they did it?

Thanks again Adrienne.

83 Adrienne Smith
January 7, 2012 at 9:31 AM

Yeah Jayne, I like the list style too! I mean this way what you post goes side to side. I don’t like that at all.

The lists and groups aren’t visible on your info page, at least mine aren’t. They are visible when you hit the home tab. I don’t like the way they set those up, way more confusing and still hard to get use to at least for me.

People love imagines and connecting with other people so it’s my understanding that Facebook wanted a way to make it easier for people to locate things on your profile without streaming through everything on your wall. This way they can check by year and month to locate older information, photos, stuff like that. Remember, this is a social community so when I think more social I think of sharing photos and videos more than content. That’s my definition at least so I’m sure that had a lot to do with it too.

Plunge when you want to girl but just get ready. It will happen in the not too distant future. :-)

Have a great weekend Jayne.

84 VaNessa Duplessie January 7, 2012 at 8:50 AM

Adrienne my dear – great post. The joys of Facebook and their changes. I sigh. I chose to make the change in mid December and embrace it. I am still getting used to it and I am not sure I really like it yet but I get that Facebook really is a social platform that “technically” was not planned to be used for business. It was to be used to connect with friends. So while I am still figuring out how best to maximize it for my business use – I made the chance so I could play. And no, I still haven’t added a cover photo and I’m not sure what I want to do there. I think I’m just going to hire someone on to do something for me :-) I struggle with creating graphics and figure it is easier to have someone else do it for me! As you are now embracing timeline I look forward to learning with you!

85 Adrienne Smith
January 7, 2012 at 9:44 AM

Thank you VaNessa and you were one of the brave ones to jump in sooner. I too eventually have to embrace change whether I want to or not because it’s inevitable I’m afraid.

I agree and that’s what a lot of people have a hard time remembering. Facebook wasn’t built for us who are using it for business purposes. It’s a social platform where people share photos and videos or their vacations and family adventures. Those are the people they are catering to, not us. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the Fan Pages will remain in the current layout format. I mean keeping those separate would be nice since they have two totally different uses. Okay, I can hope right!

I’ve got to work on that cover photo too Vanessa. I want to have my business related things there but at the same time, add a little bit of me. Like you, I might just have to hire someone at Fiverr to do that for me. Either way I’m sure we’ll both come up with something pretty good.

Hope I can continue to provide some knowledge when it comes to getting around in Facebook. So stay tuned for more videos as they continue to make their changes as well.

Thank you VaNessa for your comment and your opinion. It’s much appreciated.

January 7, 2012 at 10:25 AM

Hey Adrienne,

Facebook is a funny thing for me. It changes way too often for technologically crippled people like me to catch up. Timelines was something I did see on other profiles, but didn’t install it until my brother practically nagged me into it. Though the concept is easier to understand and install, I hope it doesn’t play around with my security settings.

Also, it gives way too much information. What I have been doing since I joined Facebook. Though I wish segregating people was easier like it is on Google. But you win some, you lose some!

Thanks for the information here!

87 Adrienne Smith
January 7, 2012 at 3:04 PM

Hey Hajra,

So your brother made you do it! That’s too funny Hajra..

I understand what you are saying and I’m extremely cautious with what information I share. We can just take all the precautions we can and hope for the best. But you know there will be many more changes coming our way whether we like it or not.

Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts. I’m with you, I sure wish they would make this easier for us.

88 Jonathan Gaurano
January 7, 2012 at 2:52 PM

Hi Adrienne:

After your blog post and the comments thereafter I’m going to say – does it matter? No, I’m not saying installing Facebook Timline is a waste of time. In fact, I like Facebook Timeline and thank you for letting us know how to install the free software. My comment of ‘does it matter’ is geared toward people who are concerned about the quality that facebook is producing.

This is what I think:
1. Facebook is a free service. And, for a free service we should thank them for giving the world something epic
2. Facebook Timeline. Get used to it. It’s the new thing.
3. Facebook has privacy settings and it’s easy to control. Also, to test the privacy settings you can always click on: “View As” a certain friend and you’ll see how it shows up to others.

Love Facebook. Hold it in your hearts. Change. It’s hard at first. But, you got it!

89 Adrienne Smith
January 7, 2012 at 3:14 PM

Hey Jonathan,

Glad you enjoyed my video of how to install the timeline but I definitely see your point.

As I was sharing with VaNessa earlier that people keep forgetting that Facebook is a social network and it wasn’t created to help the business owners. So they are updating the look and features for that purpose although I can still gripe that I don’t like it. The fact of the matter is you are right. It’s free, we get to connect with really awesome people through their service so we all need to just get over it.

One thing I will mention though is that I have my friends set so that I’m the only one who can see them but when I tested the privacy settings viewing my profile as someone else, they can see all my friends. I have a big issue with that so some of their settings aren’t working correctly.

Thanks for sharing that though Jonathan. I still do love Facebook so it will be a lot harder to run me off. :-)

Thank you for that input. Oh, and it’s always a pleasure to read/comment on your blog. Though I don’t comment that much (here and there)…

91 Adrienne Smith
January 8, 2012 at 10:31 AM

Do you have yours set that way Jonathan? There is a thinking behind my madness and maybe I’ll write about that in a future post. I went in and viewed it as a friend but there are my friends right there for everyone to see. I do not like that at all so why have the setting if it’s not going to work?

Thank YOU for your comment. I learn just as much from you guys as you learn from me. That’s why I ask so many questions because I’m still a work in progress in a lot of areas myself Jonathan. I just appreciate you taking the time to read my posts and leaving me your thoughts. So thank you for that.

Enjoy your day okay! :-)

92 Dia January 7, 2012 at 4:20 PM

Hi Adrienne,

I must admit, I haven’t tried timeline yet on facebook. For some reason, the way it is now, it seems easier and the posts right after each other, not like in a column. However, we have to be ready for any changes that facebook makes. 😉 Thanks for sharing my friend

Hi Dia,

I really wanted to put it off longer myself Dia but I knew this was inevitable so why the heck not just jump right on in now. I have a feeling it’s really going to take some getting use to. We have to be open to change right!

Thanks Dia… :-) Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend,.

I was one of the early adopters, I changed over the first day. It took a couple of minutes and I was used to it later that same day. I do not even think about it anymore. Ah, I jumped it when Andy announced the beta testing. Oh yeah, I was one of the first to get my hands on it and I’m so glad I did. Glad you got it though and I’m with you, fabulous plug-in.

Thanks Dan for stopping by and have a great day!

Hi Viola,

It’s going to happen eventually but I did learn through this process that the seven days they say you have before it goes live isn’t available anymore. Once you switch it’s live as soon as you hit publish. So you can play around with it and when you’re done, hit publish.

Why thank you Viola… I really appreciate that. You know, this is what blogging is all about. Giving value to your readers so they’ll keep coming back for more. I’m just happy that I’ve been able to share what I learn with you all and that you have benefited from my experience. Thank you for your wonderful kind words and I hope to continue along this same journey all this year as well. So, stay tuned for more!!!

Have a wonderful day and a fabulous week. :-)

98 Dan Corwin January 8, 2012 at 10:19 PM

hello Adrienne:
First of all, i wantedd to really thank you for making this. For once, i have gotten a viewpoint on timeline from someone who actually is like me: I hate change. I hated the layout change in 2010, and i hated timeline. However, you have given me very good reason to love timeline. You have managed to convince me to change my profile to timeline.

However, there is just one problem with that. When I go to Facebook’s Introducing Timeline page, the “get timeline” button is not there. Ive gone onto various help files and have found that this is a somewhat common problem, but no one seems to offer a solution. One suggestion was to go to the “learn more about apps” page and click on the get timeline button, but when i do, and this has also happened to people with my problem, a window pops up that says “loading,” and nothing else happens. If you possibly have the solution to this, or if you know where i might find the solution, please tell me anything you might know. i will certainly come back and tell you if my problem does get fixed.

But, in the meantime, thank you for posting this, as you have convinced me to take the plunge of Timeline. Thanks again, and i will certainly be visiting this blog again!

You really ought to set that up. I show you how in my new commenting rules post. It’s really pretty easy.

Hope you find that helpful. :-)

Hey Dan,

I’m sure there are plenty of other people who aren’t happy with this change but just are being a little more quite about it.

Happy you decided to move over but I’m really surprised to hear that you aren’t seeing the button at the bottom of the page? You are the first person who has told me of this problem. So in all honesty, I’m not sure what to tell you. I can give you a blog to head over to and see if she’s written anything about it or if she might be able to offer some advice. She does know Facebook very well.

I suggest stopping by Kim Castelberry’s blog and see if she has a post or maybe you can respond in the comment section asking for help. I’m so sorry I don’t know what to tell you, wish I could be of more help with this and I hope Kim is able to help in this matter as well.

Good luck Dan.

Hi Adrienne,

Nice video. Many of us do not like the changes because it takes us some time to get adapted to them. Thank you for preparing this video to show us “How To”!
I haven’t already switched over. Generally I wait until I have no choice…I know, I know I am not so brave hey?
Now that I have your video, I may do it earlier :)

Thank you for sharing.

January 9, 2012 at 7:50 AM

Hey Lenia,

I don’t blame you, stick with the old as long as you want. At least this way I shared how easy it is to switch and how to get around some. I would have stuck it out but then I wouldn’t have been able to shoot this video! 😉

Hang in there Lenia. Now, have a great week okay!

Hi Adrienne,

How are you doing? I updated timeline as soon as it was implemented on facebook. I am still to find the timeline’s impact on my life ;). Sure I can get to see old posts and have fun once in a while, I probably will not use it that much because I do not use Facebook just for connecting and not professional use.
However for people who wants to change something they posted sometime back or change the privacy settings it makes a lot of sense.
However I am sure , after I used it for more time, it will be a good reminder, like a diary.
Have a great day :)

Hey Ashvini,

I’m doing really great today, off to start a new week. Hope you’re doing well my friend. Things good on your side of the country?

You don’t use Facebook a lot? I see you posting all the time and of course, I’m thrilled with what you share. Anything from our posts to our fabulous music videos. That’s a lot of fun wouldn’t you agree?

It does take some getting use to but I’m sure for those who use it for the way it was intended then they are really enjoying this change. Me, not so much still.

Have a great day and a fabulous week Ashvini.

Thanks Adrienne, for this video. It does appear that Facebook is introducing a whole lot of things that will help most of us better use the site. Frankly, I never really knew something like this was coming. In fact, I’ve not logged into facebook for some time now. I’ll just need to take a look and see what I can do with this info.

107 Adrienne Smith
January 9, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Glad you found this one helpful Chadrack… Facebook is constantly changing and it will remain that way. Don’t blink your eyes as we say here in Texas, it might change. :-)

Hi Adrienne, What an exceptionally helpful post! I had already converted to Timeline, but you inspired me to put a cover photo on and feature some posts. Thank you so much for taking the time to help everyone with this amazing video. (I think you should keep your cover photo of Kayla at least for a while.)

109 Adrienne Smith
January 9, 2012 at 3:41 PM

Hi Carolyn,

I can’t think of anything to put up there right now that I would have to mess with the size and all. I thought I would play around with that this weekend but never got around to it. So that means Kayla stays a little longer for now.

Thanks for your input and glad you had already taken that leap. :-)

Thanks Adrienne,!
Some friends were worried about the new Facebook Timeline, but i have done it following your video instructions, – have a look at my FB now! – and i like it a lot.!!!!

The best for 2012,
Warmly, Angel.

Too bad, the time i enabled Timeline, I find hard times enabling it but now its just one click of a button :/

112 Adrienne Smith
January 9, 2012 at 8:26 PM

Ah, you were a beta tester I’m sure which is why it was a little more difficult Herbert. It was easy I must admit. Yey!!!

113 Herbert
January 9, 2012 at 8:27 PM

Yeah :(
Well, it was expected that everything will be easy upon the official launching of the Timeline 😀

114 Adrienne Smith
January 9, 2012 at 9:13 PM

I only wish I knew when that was. I guess no one still knows. I’ve heard that some people don’t have the button at the bottom of the page when they visit that page to implement the timeline. That’s just strange.

115 Herbert
January 9, 2012 at 9:15 PM

I think the Timeline is not that stable yet, although I havent encountered that but Im certain that all will be ok on the long run 😀

116 Adrienne Smith
January 9, 2012 at 9:18 PM

I’m thinking they still have more kinks to fix until they are happy with it so we’ll just all have to wait and see.

Thanks Herbert!

117 Linda January 9, 2012 at 8:38 PM

I actually was probably one of the first that installed it back in August or September – whenever they rolled it out. I got an “inside” invite and then it was originally going to go into effect for everyone Sept 30th or something, but it never happened. So, I have been with it for a long time, but never really thought about the main picture because it is so large and you can’t advertise, so I just haven’t bothered with it. It is not something that is very important to me 😉

Your dog looks great – I would keep it as it is a reflection of who you are and what you love!

118 Adrienne Smith
January 9, 2012 at 9:15 PM

I thought about it back then but I like the older look and really wasn’t in any hurry. Like you I heard it was at the end of September but then nothing happened. I held out as long as I could but just decided that since this is a new year and I’m not big on surprises that I would just go for it.

I’m creating a fan page right now so I’ll more than likely just start using my profile page for more personal stuff once my page is live. So I might just stick with Kayla at least for now anyway.

Thanks Linda!

Great video! You sure did make that simple! I know this is going to help a lot of people.

I have heard so many mixed emotions about this new timeline from different people. I personally LOVE it! I find it to be so visually appealing! And well, it’s here!! So rather than resist change, I hope more people will choose to embrace the upgrade and GROW WITH IT!

I also love seeing your little mascot up top there! :) Very cool, she seems to be at home in some spotlight! lol

January 10, 2012 at 9:07 AM

I really thought I was going to run into something pretty confusing on the other side to be honest with you. I hadn’t found a post or video that explained this for me. Glad it was easier then I have expected. What a relief…

I’ve heard a lot of mixed emotions as well. It will grow on me because there’s no other choice but I’m not exactly liking it to be honest with you. I’ll get over it though.

Thanks, she’s my precious girl and I do love her dearly. Little does she know I’m showing her off.

Thanks Cat!

121 Sonia
January 11, 2012 at 8:31 AM

I switched over a while back, but was still unsure if it was the right move. You know Facebook, once you make a change you can’t go back, so it eventually grew on me. The idea of showcasing some of your favorite photos appealed to me, but I am still trying to get use to the layout. I love the picture of your little doggie…I was thinking of showing mine too. Thanks for the video Adrienne.

122 Adrienne Smith
January 11, 2012 at 8:35 AM

Ah, you jumped in much earlier! I had heard that once I jumped in I couldn’t go back so I decided to wait because I wasn’t loving the layout. I’m still not loving the layout. I get that people really are more into sharing photos and images now but I don’t like the side to side stuff. I would much rather have it all in one line but you can still do that as I showed how to feature everything.

I just changed my cover photo last night and will play around with it some more. Not sure what I really want up there.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing what you’ve already done Sonia. Now, be sure and have a wonderful day!

This is cool Video, Thank you so much for the video, believe it or not but i’m one of those who haven’t switched to the new facebook timeline profile yet.

I’m one of the timeline profile fans but I thought it is difficult to deal with so i didn’t give it a try.

Now and because of your tutorial I’ll definitely give it a try and switch as soon as possible this probably will happen within the weekend.

124 Adrienne Smith
January 12, 2012 at 7:16 AM

What??? You haven’t switched Faisaal? Mr. Facebook Man… That’s too funny but I love that.

I did too, thought it was going to be a lot more difficult to deal with but piece of cake. I’ll be sure to drop by yours next week to see if you made the plunge.

Good luck!

people always ask me about the timeline and I was always referring others blog post.

you know I’m more into facebook marketing so as long as the timeline haven’t been applied to pages then I’m in the safe side lol^^

and I really have a lot of topics that I haven’t covered on my blog yet with working on my coming facebook product, you know important things come first, So it all come together to take my time 😉

I will let you know whenever i got mine ready 😀 Thanks Adrienne.

128 Daca January 12, 2012 at 3:14 AM

Hi Adrienne,
I am glad everything went well with this Timeline thing. :)
I like it, especially because they’ve made pictures large, so we don’t need to open each one just to see it properly. Plus, our walls now look amazing because of this.

129 Adrienne Smith
January 12, 2012 at 7:32 AM

Hi Daca,

So you like the new look! I’m still not liking it very much but I guess it will grow on me with time.

Thanks for sharing your opinion on this with me. We are all different for sure. :-)

Enjoy your day!

130 Katie C. Balsamo January 12, 2012 at 3:16 AM

Hi Adrienne,

You have a cute dog!.. Well the facebook time line is cool but I found it a little bit messy in my part. I love the simple old fashion way of facebook.

131 Adrienne Smith
January 12, 2012 at 7:34 AM

Hey Katie,

Thank you, I’ll be sure to tell her you thinks she’s a cutie pie.

I like the older way myself too. I think the photo at the top is way too big personally. Kind of in your face when you visit someones profile but that’s just my opinion.

Thanks for the comment and enjoy your day!

135 Caleb January 21, 2012 at 6:19 PM

I saw this on another bloggers page almost two weeks ago and then came across some free timeline templates to use and although I’m good with installing and setting up websites, I wasn’t quite sure how to install this on Facebook until now. Thanks!

136 Adrienne Smith
January 21, 2012 at 6:40 PM

Glad you found this helpful Caleb and I know what you mean. I had run across this on so many sites but they never walked me through what to do. I didn’t find the sites to create the free timelines until much later so glad you were able to locate a few of those. Have fun with it.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing this with me.

March 19, 2012 at 9:39 AM

I DID IT! :)

Ok, so I’m probably more excited about switching than I should be but if you’d ever gotten a glimpse of my artistic ability you’d just pat me on the shoulder and say “ah, that’s nice Warren” LOL

I worked on it for a few hours, and like it way better than I liked the one I actually paid for! :)

Please let me know what you think, and I hope you like it! :)
Thanks Adrienne, always behind the scenes kicking our butts gently down the road of progress.

138 Adrienne Smith
March 19, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Oh goodie Warren, I’m so proud of you! And you like your timeline photo better then the one you paid for! Wow, that’s saying a lot. Okay, wait right here and let me go take a peek.

Okay, I see what you mean, I actually like this one too. Wow, you did that one yourself! I’m very impressed Warren, very impressed. Great job! It looks good.

Now you’re going to have to go watch Ileane’s video where she helps you learn how to include apps so that you can have a better like buttons plus take them to other offers you have for your customers. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s a must see.

I love it Warren, you did such a great job. I’m so impressed. :-)

You can do great things with what she suggests Warren. I believe I’ll be implementing the same things. :-)

141 Caleb March 19, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Hey man it looks awesome…I gave it a LIKE as my page and as my personal! I’m feeling the newer format better because we have far more room plus more html we can insert 8)

I have one up but may need to unique-a-tize it a bit more at ..

142 Adrienne Smith
March 19, 2012 at 11:43 AM

Ah thanks Caleb, so glad you liked this post. Thanks for that, I really appreciate it. You’re the best…

Now to move on to my fan page and do the same thing. Hey, my time is counting down so I better step on the gas.

I did check out yours and be sure to check out my post I did last Thursday about the tips and tricks with Facebook Fan Pages. You aren’t allowed to have any call to action in your Timeline photo, not even arrows. So, you’ll have to tweak it once again my friend. Can’t have them penalizing your page for that.

143 Caleb March 20, 2012 at 2:18 PM

Oops thanks for the reminder 😳

…now I got a totally new cover that I found through Google advanced image search for free commercial reuse pics featuring a cat on a laptop learning how to make money online but like everything else seems to be in this business of ours, it will forever be a work in progress!

144 Adrienne Smith
March 20, 2012 at 2:25 PM

No problem, don’t want you to get slapped… Dang them! :-(

I’ve got to get to work on a photo too Caleb, just don’t know what I want and not sure what I can put up. Yet! Just haven’t had time to mess with it really.

Hey, have a great week okay!
