With A Little Help From My Friends

by Adrienne Smith on August 25, 2011

Carolyn Nicander MohrSince we all need help from our friends from time to time I thought this title was pretty appropriate for today’s post.  Come on, I know you guys remember this tune from the Beatles…

“What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song
And I’ll try not to sing out of key

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends”

Is it coming back to you now?  Yep, I thought it would!  Now, let’s get down to business.

In today’s post I have a couple things to share with you.

The Results Are In

I’m sure you remember my post “Only 26 Days Left, I Would Appreciate Your Support“.  I reached out to all of you because I really wanted to help Christian Hollingsworth of SmartBoyDesigns win the 2011 Small Business Influencers Award!

I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for voting for Christian.  The results are in and he didn’t win.  Dang it!!!  He was up against some stiff competition though so overall I think he did really well.  He came in second place in his category for votes.  We racked up 3,312 votes for him guys and we didn’t have any company employees behind us to vote for their bosses everyday like some of those people.

They didn’t just base the outcome on votes alone though, there were other things involved.  But I’m so very proud of each and every one of you and again, thank you so much for participating.  I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that!

He did receive an honorable mention though so if you’d like to check out that list, you can access that here.

Most Valuable Philadelphia Blogger

Because I was really asking you all to do something generous for my friend Christian, I also told you I would return the favor if you needed me.   Not that my friend Carolyn has to ask but while she was on vacation last week, she was nominated for “Most Valuable Philadelphia Blogger Nominee of 2011”.  Imagine her surprise upon her return.

For those of you who have not met Carolyn Nicander Mohr, she is the creator of “The Wonder of Tech“.   I’m the first person to admit that I am not into gadgets or technology for that matter.  But at the top of each blog post you will notice that I specifically state that “if you leave me a comment, I promise to return the favor”.

Well, Carolyn visited my blog one day so I did return the favor.  I even told her in the post I commented on that I’m so not up on what she shares but I found what she wrote about very helpful for someone who is SO behind the times with all this technology.

Because of Carolyn, I just purchased my first iPod Touch upon her recommendation.  So if you have any kind of tech questions, she’s your woman.  She boggles my mind..

On To The Important Part

Sorry for rambling, I do that from time to time.  So back to the purpose of this post… Carolyn has been nominated for “Most Valuable Philadelphia Blogger Nominee of 2011”. This voting is similar to what we did for Christian.  You can only vote every 24 hours and all you need to do is click on the vote button and you are done.  The voting goes through September 9th.

Are you all up for another round of heavy voting?  Just think about it this way.  If you are ever nominated for something you know you can reach out to all of us for our support. Those people won’t know what hit them.   Just click on the button below and you will be taken directly to the page to vote.

I’m not sure exactly what she will received, it doesn’t state, but since Carolyn lives in the Philadelphia area who cares right!  It’s the recognition and knowing that you were nominated that is the real prize.

I Appreciate You

Just in case I haven’t told you how much I appreciate you lately, well here it goes again.

I appreciate each and every single one of you so much…

I have the best blogging friends a girl could ever ask for.  Thank you so much for helping Carolyn out and trust me, she really appreciates you as well.  Now remember, go visit her place if you need some help with techie stuff cause this lady does know it all.  Oh, and she’s just really cool too!

Thanks guys!!!

Wow, Adrienne, thank you so much for your kind words and support! I was truly surprised as I checked in on your blog today, kind of like my surprise in returning from vacation and discovering The Wonder of Tech was a finalist for Philadelphia’s Most Valuable Blogger Award: stunning, touched and thrilled.

My goal in writing The Wonder of Tech is to help others discover the wonders of personal technology – how it can be useful and fun! I’m so glad that you have begun to discover the wonder of tech through your iPod Touch! :-)

What I am discovering is the wonder of the blogging community and amazing people like you!

Congratulations to Christian, who was up against the likes of Google, Microsoft, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Not bad for a 20 year old! Although he won Honorable Mention instead of the ultimate award, I’m sure he feels as I do, overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. That is the real prize.

Thank you, Adrienne, from the bottom of my heart, for your incredible support. And yes, I am here for you anytime I can repay the favor. You rock.

Well hello there Miss Carolyn…

I was more than happy to help you as well since you are just as deserving of this award as Christian was of his. I totally agree that when you are up against the likes of the big corporations (although that was suppose to be a small business award) that 20 year old kid did alright for himself.

Philadelphia is a pretty darn big city and you have a lot of competition but it will be fun to see how much attention these other sites get as well. Wish they showed how many votes everyone was receiving but I guess they have their reasons. I’ve been voting each day as soon as I learned of this so you can definitely count me in on supporting you throughout the time we have left.

I love your blog more and more and even chuckle at times with what some of these apps can do. My oh my!!! The things they come out with these days. But you are first to report a lot of that and you have taught me so much.

Thank you again Carolyn for all your help and support and I know you are so deserving of winning this award. Let’s see what we can’t do to help you along.

Best to you my friend and you are so very welcome.

Good Morning Adrienne,

First things first, I absolutely LOVE that Beatles Hit! It’s one of my favorites, coming in really close to Paul’s, Imagine. OK, got that out of the way. 😉

Next, to let you and Carolyn know, that I cast my vote for today… I think I actually did it twice. I usually have two browser up, Microsoft for my social media needs and Google Chrome for all of my blogging needs. So when I went to go tweet the voting link on my Microsoft browser, it actually cast the vote again. Hope it was legal. :-/

Anywho, Best of luck to you Carolyn. And hoping both of you young ladies are having a phenomenal day.

Hey Deeone,

I do too, couldn’t get it out of my head. I went walking last night and it popped into my head and I thought hey, that would be a great title for today’s blog post. Very appropriate for Miss Carolyn.

Oh my gosh, that is fabulous. I just opened it up in another browser and it let me vote. Hot dog, that didn’t work when voting for Christian I’m afraid. Thanks for sharing that Deeone… She’s going to get four votes from me each day then.

Thank you so much for the support, we really appreciate it. Everyday is a great day so thank you for that. Hope the same for you my friend.

Very appropriate indeed Adrienne,

You have me over here laughing hysterically, because the thought that’s going through my head at the moment; Hmph, I guess good things do come from making mistakes. :)

That’s awesome! I was afraid for a moment that I might’ve gotten Carolyn in trouble. “NO! Deeone Voted Twice, One doesn’t of them count and he’s not allowed to vote anymore!” LOL

Forgive me… I can be little silly at times. :)

Glad to know that it helped though… She’s sure to win now!

And you’re right on the money with that one, everyday IS a great day, Adrienne. I can truly say, I concur. 😉

August 25, 2011 at 10:09 AM

Hi Adrienne,
I think that is great what you are doing here. I just voted for Carolyn’s blog over at the website. It’s true, sometimes we just have to be willing to ask and we shall receive.

2nd place is not too shabby for Christian as well. Good Job. :)

10 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 10:26 AM

Hi Justin,

Thank you, I really appreciate that! I think it’s good to reach out and ask for help from our friends from time to time. I know that when I ask you all to assist in something I’m trying to accomplish you are right there. But I’ll turn around and do the same for you and anything else I can do to help. That’s what I love about the blogging community. We all want to do our part.

I appreciate the votes and support as always. You’re the best Justin.

You are right, 2nd place isn’t too shabby but 1st would have been a whole lot sweeter!!! 😉

11 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:00 PM

Hi Justin, Thank you so much for your vote! I really appreciate your and Adrienne’s support. I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from everyone in the blogging community.

I shouldn’t really be surprised at Adrienne’s generous support. She is generous with all of us every time she shares her wisdom when she publishes her posts. But it still feels amazing and incredible to have this kind of support from such a wonderful woman.

12 Jens P. Berget
August 25, 2011 at 10:30 AM

Hi Adrienne,

This is awesome. I never thought about writing a blog post like this, but it has sure way more impact than both Twitter and Facebook. And thanks a lot for reminding me to vote again. Carolyn is brilliant, she deserves the victory.

Thanks a lot for being such a role model in the blogosphere.

13 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 10:42 AM

Hey Jens,

I got the idea when Christian was up for that award. I thought to myself, how can I get the word out beyond just tweeting and sharing on Facebook. That’s when it hit me to write a post. I even told everyone they didn’t have to comment, I just wanted votes for him. That post is the one that has the most comments on it now. I was shocked and amazed but oh so very grateful. It was a great reminder to all my friends to vote for him on a regular basis which they did.

I don’t have to tell you what Carolyn means to the both of us. She’s one smart cookie and I love her blog. Even if I’m not a techie person, she really knows her stuff and I find it fascinating what she shares over there. Plus she’s now my go to gal for all question on gadgets. I just hope that this post will help her as much as the one I wrote for Christian.

Thank you for voting Jens, we both really do appreciate your support my friend. And all the kind words you throw my way. I’m so very blessed.

14 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:04 PM

Wow, thank you, Jens, for your very kind words. I am honored by your praise, as I was honored by your guest post this week on The Wonder of Tech. I appreciate all of your support in so many ways.

15 Warren
August 25, 2011 at 10:47 AM

I was happy to retweet and cast a vote. I appreciate the information you share, the support you offer myself and my blog. It’s the least I can do to say thank you!

PS. If you remind me I’ll vote again. (I have the worst memory, and a million things going on or you wouldn’t have to remind me LOL)

Hope you’re having a great week!

16 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 11:17 AM

Hey Warren,

Thank you so much for the vote and retweet. We really appreciate you helping out. Happy to do it my friend.

If you don’t mind me reminding you each day, I’ll definitely do that. I put a post it note on my monitor and that’s what helps remind me! Sometimes I forget too! :-)

Thanks Warren and have a great day and rest of your week as well.

17 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:07 PM

Hi Warren, Thank you very much for your vote and tweet! I really appreciate your supporting the effort and Adrienne’s reminders. You are very kind to be concerned about voting daily. The field is crowded, so I am grateful for every single vote! :-)

18 Warren
August 26, 2011 at 9:09 AM

You are both very welcome.
Like Carolyn said “we are all in this together”.
Building a blog or website isn’t something we can do on our own.
I love the fact that I can learn something from almost every blogger out here! So thanks to you as well.

PS. I even remembered to vote on my own! :)

19 Carolyn
August 27, 2011 at 6:41 PM

Way to go! Thank you very much, Warren. :-)

20 Mouh
August 25, 2011 at 10:05 AM

I read that about the award on Carolyn’s blog. I voted that day and then forgot to do it again! what a bummer! Sorry Carolyn. I’ll write a note to remind myself….. I promise not to forget that again. :)

I have a feeling you’ll win it, Carolyn. :) I wish you the best, the best of luck!

Thanks for reminding me Adrienne. You’re always there to help your friends. Bless you.

21 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 10:23 AM

Thank YOU Mouh for voting for Carolyn and I appreciate you doing that the other day when you read her post. Just glad I could remind you to do it again. As I just learned, you can open different browsers and vote again. Yipee!!! But only every 24 hours I’m afraid. Oh well.

As always I appreciate your support Mouh. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll receive a substantial amount of votes!

I’m always here for you too my wonderful giving friend. Thank you so very much and enjoy your day! :-)

22 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 7:51 PM

Wow, Mouh, thanks so much for your votes. No need to apologize for forgetting, I appreciate your support so much in voting and spreading the word about the award.

Adrienne is a very special lady and I am so honored that she is helping me in this way. Amazing.

23 Bryce Christiansen August 25, 2011 at 11:30 AM

Not every blog or site would have the character to reach out to their audience and ask them to help out a complete stranger.

That’s what is nice about your site. You put your true self out there every day and don’t care if some readers might be turned off by a post about voting. You don’t really need those readers anyways.

I’ll jump in and lend some votes. Like you said, by helping Carolyn this time, we are setting up an opportunity for others to do the same if the chance ever presents itself.

Good work,

24 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 12:22 PM

Hi Bryce,

Thank you for saying that Bryce, that means a lot. I don’t know about you, but since I’ve been here I have met some fabulous people. I just hope that the people who do read this post and aren’t familiar with me or the people I mentioned, they will take the time to check out their site and see what top notch individuals they both are.

I appreciate your support, it means a lot. You are so right my friend, this is just setting up an opportunity for us to return the favor. And there will come a time I have no doubt.

Have a great day Bryce,

25 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:26 PM

Bryce, you are absolutely correct, Adrienne has strength of character few people possess. She puts herself out there for others constantly and that’s what makes her a fantastic friend.

It hadn’t occurred to me that people might be put off by Adrienne’s posts asking for votes for Christian and me. I guess those people don’t “get” the amazing gift Adrienne gives to others, and they don’t appreciate the support the blogging community gives to each other. Adrienne exemplifies the supportive community and is a leader for us all.

Bryce, thank you for your votes! I am happy to repay the favor any time. We’re all in this together.

26 Allyson Stewart August 25, 2011 at 1:38 PM

Hey, Adrienne. Sorry I haven’t stopped by for a little while. Imagine my surprise when I saw your post to help Carolyn. I’m so excited for her. What an honorable award. I actually learned about Carolyn through you, of course, a few months back, and truly enjoy her blog and posts about all those cool gadgets. I would love to help her out.

Oh, and I’m sad to hear that Christian didn’t win first place.

See you soon!!

27 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 2:08 PM

Hi Allyson,

No problem young lady, I’ve been behind myself. Really busy month for me but glad you stopped by today.

I was so sad that Christian didn’t win because we gave it our best shot. But now we get to root for Carolyn and see what we can’t do to help her out. I’m so glad you enjoy her blog, she does share some really cool stuff over there doesn’t she? I know she appreciates your support as well so thank you for that.

Take care and hope you enjoy your afternoon.

28 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:30 PM

Thanks so much, Allyson, for your votes and kind words, as well as your frequent visits to The Wonder of Tech. I’m so glad you are enjoying the blog and that you discovered it through Adrienne.

29 Allyson Stewart August 25, 2011 at 9:58 PM

Hi, again… You’re both very welcome. I am certainly glad to vote for you, Carolyn. The nomination shows the difference your blog is making, starting right in the community! We’re rooting for you. And thanks to you, Adrienne, for sharing the news.

30 Ruth Zive
August 25, 2011 at 3:09 PM

Voted! And I’ve checked out the blog. Interesting for me because I write in the technology sector…though I really know very little about technology! Strange, right? Maybe if I spend some time on Carolyn’s blog, it’ll rub off.

31 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 3:34 PM

Hi Ruth,

Thank you so much for that, I really appreciate it.

That’s right, you are also in the technology sector as well. You’ll have to get her to tell you the story of how she got here. When she started, she didn’t have a clue either. But she started learning and then kept up to date with all new techie things and now that woman knows so much. She amazes me. Be sure to stop by her blog and give her a shout. She’ll appreciate it.

Thanks Ruth!

32 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:45 PM

Hi Ruth, I have found those who claim they know nothing about tech actually know quite a bit. No one knows every aspect of tech, it’s just not possible. I’m planning on writing a blog post on this topic.

Our lovely host, Adrienne, claims she knows little about tech, but she has helped me incredibly with the technical aspects of blogging. Ask me about gadgets, I can answer pretty much anything, but I’m still figuring out the finer point of WordPress (shh, don’t tell anyone). Adrienne and Jens have been very generous and patient in their guidance. Luckily, I don’t have to blog about WordPress though.

Ruth, thank you very much for checking out The Wonder of Tech and for your votes! I’m happy to help you out with any tech questions you have. I’ll be heading over to your blog soon. Those who claim to have little tech knowledge are often those who know plenty! :-)

33 Bill Dorman
August 25, 2011 at 4:30 PM

I’m on this like donkey kong; they will only let me vote once a day.

And yes, I’m afraid you would get up and walk out on me if I sang out of tune; which I would certainly do……….

If Carolyn gets a new car I wonder if she will let us ride in it? Will you vote for me if I run for mayor of twitterville?

34 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 5:26 PM

Thanks Bill, always appreciate your help my friend. Yep, I can’t stand that they won’t let us vote more than once a day. What, do they think we’ll just sit here all day and vote? Well maybe! :-)

Good one, love that. Did that song bring back memories for you? Can’t get it out of my head now darn it!

She better give us a ride, heck, come all the way to Texas and pick me up! I’m not holding my breath over that one. Wonder what they are giving? Guess we’ll find out next month.

Whatever you run for, I’ll vote for you! Sign me up, I’m there! :-)

Thank Bill, you’re da man!!!

35 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 8:55 PM

Hi Bill, On it like Donkey Kong, what a great tech reference, brilliant!

Yes, Bill, I would vote for you for Twitterville, but I’m thinking bigger. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there’s a big election next year in the US. If you throw your hat in the ring, I guarantee you will have my vote!

I will definitely give you a ride in my new Ferrari. I will swing by and pick you up on the way to Adrienne’s. By the way, which color should I request?

36 Hajra
August 25, 2011 at 4:49 PM

Hey Adrienne

I did vote for Carolyn yesterday! And thanks to your post I voted for her again today!

I am so excited for her, hope she wins! I did vote everyday for Christian, and was so sad that he didn’t win but he managed to get in a lot of votes…let’s hope Carolyn gets that award and whatever they have in store for her. They better be giving something nice, like a Ferrari or at least a million bucks 😉

37 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 5:47 PM

Hi Hajra,

Thank you so much for voting for her yesterday and again today.

I’m with you… Not sure what’s in store for the winner but it better be good. And we want a piece of that too! :-) Just kidding but I do want to ride in that Ferrari! How cool would that be…

Thanks Hajra for stopping by and for your continued support. We appreciate you!

38 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 9:04 PM

Thanks so much for all of your support, Hajra, including your awesome suggestion on my blog that I create a Facebook event for the voting. Brilliant! I created it and not only got votes, the event let people know that they can vote every day. Some people mistakenly thought they could vote only once.

So thank you Hajra. You have made a big difference.

But a million dollars? Puh-leez. That’s chump change compared to the honor of the victory. 😉

Adrienne, I will definitely let you drive the Ferrari. Manual or automatic?

39 Laurie August 25, 2011 at 6:06 PM

Anyone who doesn’t know that song should definitely re-examine their musical tastes, if you ask me! Great message though, we definitely all need a little help from our friends once in a while. :)

40 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 6:32 PM

It was a great song, as were so many of theirs Laurie.

We definitely need help from our friends from time to time so I do hope you’ll help out and vote. At least once. Sure do appreciate it! :-)

41 Janet
August 25, 2011 at 7:01 PM

Adrienne, aloha. Love this! So glad you let me know about Carolyn’s nomination. She is simply amazing because of the way she makes the complex seem simple. Oftentimes when I finish reading her blog, I actually think that I know something techie!

No doubt about it, she is a Wonder of Tech. The more thoroughly you know a topic, the more simply you can explain. Carolyn’s expertise is evident in everything she writes.

Adrienne, I tweeted this before I even commented. Now, I am off to finish sharing and I will be posting a note in my tribes to let people know about this opportunity to support her.

Carolyn, congratulations! Adrienne, many mahalos for spreading the word. Until later, my friend, aloha. Janet

42 Adrienne Smith
August 25, 2011 at 8:39 PM

Hi Janet,

Well, my post for Christian went over so well I thought I certainly need to do the same for Carolyn. Like you, she has taught me so much since meeting her. I don’t feel as ignorant as I once did although I’m still not totally up on all things techie! I love visiting her place to see what in the world they’ve come up with next.

Thank you for sharing this message Janet, you know how much I really appreciate it. I told Carolyn to let her tribe members know as well and let’s get this woman some votes.

Appreciate your ongoing support! :-)

43 Carolyn
August 25, 2011 at 9:10 PM

Hi Janet, Thank you so much for all of your kind words! I am thrilled you are getting a lot from The Wonder of Tech. I’m excited about the tech I cover, but my excitement doesn’t help anyone if they don’t understand what I’m talking about. Personal technology is supposed to be simple, for everyone to adopt. But sometimes people are reluctant to join in on the tech fun!

I also appreciate your voting and spreading the word about the award. Your support means a lot. Mahalo!

44 kamille August 25, 2011 at 11:20 PM

I really like the way you approach blogging.. Helping people whom you just met online and doing the extra mile to get to know them better and help..I hope you can share a link where you are the one that is nominated..

45 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 9:14 AM

Why thank you so much for that Kamille. If I’m not mistaken, this is your first visit to my blog.

I love helping people, it’s just a part of who I am and you will find that you really connect with some people through friendships here. If something good is happening to them, I’ll do my part to help. I have no doubt they would do the same for me.

That would be so cool to have me nominated for something. Over time I’m sure but for now, I’m just happy to help.

I appreciate your very thoughtful comment. Thank you SO much for that! I do hope you’ll stop back by and visit again soon.

46 Carolyn
August 26, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Kamille, I completely agree. Adrienne certainly deserves an award. Most Awesome Blogger, perhaps? Imagine how many votes she would get! I hope she is up for one soon, she richly deserves it. :-)

47 sam August 25, 2011 at 11:51 PM

Nice post and you are doing really very good job, I think every body can’t do this job often in his/her life for others.

48 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 9:15 AM

Hey Sam,

Thank you and I do hope you’ll hop over and vote for Carolyn. She’s very deserving and like I mentioned in my post. Your time may come and you will want to reach out to your blogging friends as well. :-)

49 Carolyn
August 27, 2011 at 6:44 PM

Hi Sam, Yes, Adrienne did a great job, but then again, she always does. No matter what the post, Adrienne always delivers quality.

50 Kim Davies August 26, 2011 at 12:48 AM

Hi, Adrienne.

My first time here and I get to do something good for others immediately. :) I have had the pleasure of connecting with Carolyn. She was very kind to visit my blog and leave a comment. I replied and went to check out her blog. As a non-techie myself, I admit that I was taken aback by Carolyn’s site, but I clipped it to my Evernote in case I need help with something technical.

With everything medical-related that’s happened to me lately, I didn’t get the chance to visit many blogs and Carolyn’s was among them. So, I am very happy that you gave me a chance to show Carolyn that I care even I don’t understand half of what she’s writing.

Glad to have finally come over and be coming back for more soon. :)

Kim :)

51 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 9:21 AM

Hi Kim,

Welcome my friend, so happy to have you here. And I’m thrilled to hear that you have had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Carolyn.

I agree with you, I’m so not a techie, gadget person but boy does she know her stuff. Because she continued to visit me and comment on my posts I wanted to do the same for her even though I had no idea what she was writing about. But the more I read, the more fascinating some of this stuff became and I soon learned just how far behind I am with technology! Now if I want to know about something I just email her directly because she’s been that helpful to me.

I’m sorry about your recent health issues and hope all is resolved now. Having hat to worry about is never an enjoyable experience.

Thank you for your support and for voting for Carolyn. She’s very deserving of this award so I hope you’ll help me spread the word.

Thanks again Kim and I’ll see you soon! Be by to visit here in a bit! :-)

52 Carolyn
August 26, 2011 at 10:32 AM

Thank you, Adrienne, for continuing to return to my blog even though you were confused at times. I’m always happy to help clear up the confusion. Tech can be complex, but if you focus on the fun of it, the learning curve isn’t such a steep climb!

I write for everyday people who feel left behind with all the tech advances. Plenty of people write for techies, but my friends are mostly everyday people who have neither the time or the interest to keep up with tech news. Believe me more people are confused by tech stuff than understand it.

So never feel alone or less than brilliant because tech escapes you. You’re in the majority!

Thanks again, Adrienne, for your kind words and awesome support! :-)

53 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 11:37 AM

I was but you do write for us which is why I did continue to return. Although I don’t understand a lot of what you write about because you know how far behind I am on even upgrading my cell, I still find what they are coming out with kind of interesting. Like the laugh we got earlier this week about that app for finding where you are going in the mall. The visual of a Mom shaking the thing with kids in tow, cracked me up! :-)

I think because your initial occupation was a techie and you had to learn this yourself, you write for those who also didn’t come from that background either. Which is why your blog is so popular. We do need to stay up on things whether we want to or not.

Thank you Carolyn, that was so thoughtful of you. I think you are pretty awesome yourself!

54 Kim Davies August 26, 2011 at 8:34 PM

When I get back on track for real, I know I’ll find my way to Carolyn’s site again, Adrienne. :) Because if there is one thing that I love to do when I am not blogging, that is reading. And, I learned that you can read a lot with an iPad, a Kindle or even a Samsung Galaxy…so, I’ll probably need to learn about that from Carolyn. Will be voting for her again today. :)

Thanks for dropping by my site and leaving a thoughtful comment. Really appreciate it.

Enjoy your weekend. :)

Ah thanks Kim, Carolyn definitely has all the information you need. I left a link to her blog in this post so there’s easy access over to her place.

Have fun with all the scoop that she shares and I appreciate your comment. They are always very welcome..

Enjoy your weekend as well.

Hi Kim, I’m so sorry to hear of your medical issues. I hope you’re all healed soon!

Thank you very much for your support of my blog. I try to explain tech clearly in plain English. I write for everyday people like you and Adrienne, not for techies. So if what I’m writing is not understandable, please let me know, I’m happy to explain further. And I’m very sorry for being confusing sometimes. My bad.

Thank you very much for your support of my blog and for your kind words!

57 Kim Davies August 26, 2011 at 8:35 PM

Will look up your blog again soon, Carolyn. :) And, you deserve all our support. :)

Have an amazing weekend. :)

Whether I won or not – it taught us one thing….the blogging community is darn near perfect when it comes to supporting others within the community.

Let’s take that momentum – and get Carolyn some votes! She deserves every bit of this award. All of it. The whole shebang!

And Adrienne, you know, you’re the best for doing things like this. For showing your support and love for others. You set trends and are a leader in many areas; but the pure support of others is certainly one of your strong-suits. Your support certainly didn’t go without success. The extra traffic and prolonged exposure I received (and AM!) has been phenomenal. It’s something I’ll be able to ride on for quite some time.

It’s looking like there’s no way for us to see who’s in the lead in this contest? We better just force it then! 😉

59 Christian Hollingsworth
August 26, 2011 at 4:49 AM

…and by the way, next year we’ll just be sure to get a bunch of bloggers (yourself and I) on the judging panel for the Small Business Influencer awards; and then submit all of our favorites bloggers. Then, after the popular vote – we’ll wreak our havoc! 😉

60 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 9:28 AM

Oh my goodness that sounds like a fabulous idea! Okay, let’s put that in the works. I’m definitely game! 😉

61 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 9:27 AM

You will always be a winner to me Christian. You are such an amazing young man and I know I say that often.

I’m thrilled to hear that any and all support you have received from this contest has brought you even greater attention to you, your blog and what you do. You are our younger generation who can lead the way to show others that they can do whatever they put their mind to. With a loving heart and a strong will, anything is possible. We will be reading about you soon in some magazine or seeing a documentary about you on TV. That I have no doubt, you are headed for great things my friend.

I know you’ll do everything in your power as well to gather up move votes for our lovely Carolyn. I am not happy either that we can’t see the number of votes she has coming her way but that just means we’ll have to do more.

Thank you as always and you enjoy your day and have another fun weekend. :-)

62 Carolyn
August 26, 2011 at 10:42 AM

Hi Christian, you can certainly understand the overwhelming feeling at receiving incredible support from Adrienne and other voters. You certainly deserved the award, much more than Google, what were the judges thinking? But you’re still a winner in the eyes of everyone who has visited your blog and learned what a wonderful person you are!

Thank you very much for your support, Christian. You know I have your back next year. Watch out, Google! :-)

73 cho cho August 26, 2011 at 8:07 AM

Carolyn rocks!! I love her blog. She’s helped me discover and understand so many things that have made my life better. She’s willing and able to explain tech ideas to non-techies in such a clear and humorous way. What a gift! I’m glad to help give her the recognition she deserves & vote every day. Go Carolyn!!

August 26, 2011 at 9:46 AM

She does rock doesn’t she Cho Cho? I find the same thing when I read her blog, I can actually understand what she’s talking about being such a non-techie person myself. She’s so very helpful in that way. I’m glad you are enjoying her place as well and thank you so much for the votes and the support.

Oh, and welcome to my place! So happy to have you and hope you’ll visit again soon! :-)

Thank you, Adrienne (let me know if you get tired of my constant appreciation, lol!). I would read your blog even if you didn’t generously return the favor of a comment. But you do a great job reaching out to your readers and supporting other bloggers which is a catalyst to awesome friendships. You rock!

As they always say — it’s never about winning or losing. What I’ve learned from you through the way you generously promote your friends in contests is the power of community and more importantly of friendships. Bummer about Christian not winning, but I bet he was touched by everyone’s show of support.

Carolyn is a good friend of mine and I was already voting every day for her, but I hadn’t heard the background to her story. I can only imagine how pleasantly surprised she was to find herself nominated! =) And then to see this post with your warmth and encouragement! =) If she hadn’t been my friend, I would’ve been there to support her too because any friend of yours is a friend of mine! =)

Loved this post, Adrienne! =)

84 Adrienne Smith
August 26, 2011 at 4:59 PM

You are right Samantha, it’s not about winning or losing. I would just be honored that I was even considered. I know that Christian isn’t really disappointed because he has received a lot of attention from his nomination and I have no doubt wonderful things are still in store for his future. I do know that he actually had lunch with the guy that did receive the most votes so see. He’s being watched over for sure.

I have no doubt that Carolyn and you are buddies. That’s wonderful, she’s such a terrific lady. I appreciate you voting for her as well so just keep it up. Let’s see if we can get her in good standings with this nomination.

I appreciate you saying that Samantha, that’s so sweet of you. But that’s the kind of person you are. Thank you for your contribution as always. You are a breath of fresh air over here girl.

Now, you and Roy enjoy your weekend and stay safe! Don’t go on any bus rides okay! :-)

Hi Adrienne,

I’m humming the tune now 😉

Christian done really well, and coming second for a single fella of such a young age shows that he’ll be a star of the future and will have many number one spots.

I’ve just been over on voted for Carolyn and will try to remember to do so again every 24hrs 😉

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies, i’m off to spend some time with my wife now :)

Catch up soon Adrienne, have a great weekend 😉

90 Adrienne Smith
August 27, 2011 at 11:23 AM

Hey Barry,

Ah, got it stuck in your head now. I almost put a video or podcast of the song on my blog but thought I better not. :-)

I agree Barry, Christian did really well coming in second place being a young single 20 year old kid up against some people who are part of companies. No employees to back his votes, just all of his social contacts. Personally, that’s a huge win in my book.

Thank you again Barry for your ongoing support. I don’t have to tell you what that means to me but you know I will. A LOT!!! I sure do love helping my friends so watch out. If you ever need my support in this way, all you have to do is ask. I’m one it!

Enjoy the weekend with your lovely wife. I hope you guys do something fun and enjoyable. Step outside the norm and go for it. Hey, this is year 22 so do something different. 😉

Enjoy your weekend my wonderful friend.

Hi Barry, Yes, sometimes I forget Christian is only 20. I can’t wait to see what exciting achievements he will accomplish in the future, he has done so much so far!

Thank you very much for your votes, Barry! I have a lot of competition so every vote counts!

95 Julie August 27, 2011 at 3:21 PM

A Woman on a mission again Adrienne, you’re a real charm. I voted. And Contratulation to Christian – well done 😉

I’m not much of a gadget person either. I always see them as mens toys, makes them feel abit more grown up playing with electronic/tech gadgets than with lego 😀 . Most of the things out today, I just don’t see a use for them. Okay one – keeps the boys in a corner and quiet for awhile :-)

Good luck to Carolyn
Take Care Adrienne

96 Adrienne Smith
August 27, 2011 at 6:04 PM

Hi Julie,

I am on a mission Julie, you are right about that. I was really upset that Christian didn’t win in his category but he did come in second so that in itself was a win. He’s made a lot of really great connections just from the attention he’s received so it was worth it.

I’m with you. Heck, I don’t even have internet connection on my cell nor have I ever sent a text message. What Carolyn writes about I find very interesting and because of her, I did buy an iPod Touch. I work out in the mornings and I walk every evening so I wanted to listen to my podcasts during that time. I also attend live training and board meetings and since my hearing isn’t all that great I wanted something that would record those so if I missed something I could listen to it later. The iPod Touch also has a built in camera and video so I had asked Carolyn what she recommended since she knows about all of this stuff and she helped me. I would have never known what to get since I’m so far behind the times.

But thank you for your comment, really appreciate it and hope you’ll throw a vote or two her way.

97 Carolyn
August 27, 2011 at 7:14 PM

Hi Julie, Wow, what a great comment! Yes, the tech world is filled with men, but I don’t write my blog for techies, I write my blog for everyday people. My readers are men and women, techies and non-techies. I try to translate Geek Speak into plain English so everyone can understand what I’m talking about.

I write about websites, gadgets, smartphones, apps, and anything I find exciting in the world of tech that I think others might want to learn about. For instance, if you do any shopping online, you should check out a site called Mr. Rebates, a site that pays you cash rebates for clicking through it.

In other words, I honestly think there is something for everyone at The Wonder of Tech. Please check out my blog. If you think it is worthy of your vote, then please vote for me. If you don’t, there are 50 other blogs in my category you may like instead. No worries.

Thank you for taking the time to visit Adrienne’s blog and comment. I really appreciate your support!

Hi Adrienne

This is so wonderful to do for
your 2 friends. Very kind and sweet
of you.

This takes me back to the site of yuwie.
Where Stan and I ran a club together and
it was the first time an admin of the club
was up for the award. Our club came in first
place for best new club and we got a graphic
award for it. The name of the wards show was
called bloggie Oscar It was funny seeing how people
changed there advarts and who they came down the
red carpet with. The club had all most 2,000 members.

That was the day I new I was more than a mom.

Thanks for helping a friend out.
Hugs Bonnie

Hey Bonnie,

They are wonderful people and both so deserving of all great things coming their way. This is the least I can do.

Wow, that sounded like fun. You and Stan were in one together? What a fun experience. Thanks for sharing that with me. See, it’s so worth getting people to vote. You could end up doing some cool things like this.

Appreciate your comments and support Bonnie. They mean so much to me. Have a wonderful week and I’ll see you very soon.

August 29, 2011 at 3:30 PM

Hey Adrienne,

I don’t have time to visit her site right now but I will. I still voted cause if you said to vote, I know it must be for a great cause!

A couple months ago there was a contest for a free honeymoon based on how many votes you got. I thought “This is perfect!” I’ll get everyone I’ve met online to help me vote! However I read the description and we didn’t qualify because we couldn’t meet the deadline to get married. Was looking forward to getting the Adrinenne Smith VIP treatment!

By the way, just noticed the new header!! Wow it looks great!!! What do you think about it?

112 Adrienne Smith
August 29, 2011 at 4:19 PM

Hey Benny,

Ah thank you Benny, I appreciate you voting. Have NO idea what the prize is but I’m sure it will be a good one. I think the recognition it will bring should be enough.

Ah man, that would have been great. I did put a bug in Carolyn’s ear about your new app so you just might be getting a write up on it soon. I’m sure you are still doing really well with that. I finally got around to downloading it but still haven’t uploaded it to my iPod. I know, I’m behind. I apologize but I promise to do that this week and write you a review.

Brad did a wonderful job didn’t he? The first go around he had a lot more color in it and it just wasn’t me. I know my personality is full of color. I do love my dark blue though so he had another go at it and here’s the finished product. I really like it so thank you so much for letting me know he was offering that. Janet is next, can’t wait to see what he does with hers.

Adrienne gives friendship like few others do. She dishes it out like a generous slice of apple warm. And she doesn’t forget the ice cream either!

That’s one of the reasons, I proud to check-in here with my 10th vote for Carolyn.

115 Adrienne Smith

Ah thank you Stan, that’s so kind of you to say. I’m truly touched my friend. That means a lot for you to say that. I’m blushing over here.

I can’t help it really, I’ve got the coolest blogging friends around. If they need my help, I’m there! I mean that’s why we’re all here right! To help one another! I know I’m not in this alone my friend. I do know that Carolyn is very worthy of this award so I sure as heck hope she wins this one. I know I’m doing my part to help so that’s all I really can do you know.

Thanks for sharing and letting us know you are rooting for her too! Yey… More cool people standing beside her.

Vote number 11.

I found myself embarrassed to register the count, today. I know that I’m not contributing to a meaningful conversation by such registration. And I even feel like I’m forcing Carolyn’s and Adrienne’s public gratitude.

But I will confess that the registration here or on Carolyn’s blog post makes me accountable. I made a commitment to both and the registration makes me accountable to see it through. Make sense?

118 Adrienne Smith
September 2, 2011 at 10:33 AM

Hey Stan,

I found out that you can open different browsers and vote as well. Apparently it doesn’t check the IP address like other voting systems do. So I’ve been voting 4 times each day. Hey, just trying to get the votes in.

I appreciate you sharing with us that you are doing it. See, you are thinking about it and actually participating in the voting so I know we both really appreciate that. We don’t mind you stopping by and sharing this with us at all. We welcome it!

Plus, we appreciate you!!!

Hi Stan, You’re not forcing me to show my public gratitude, but I do want to thank you and Adrienne kindly for every vote. There are so many blogs in the contest, I need every vote.

Not only that, your comments remind others to vote too.

Thanks, Stan and Adrienne!

123 Jena Isle October 21, 2012 at 5:34 PM

Hi Adrienne,

I was able to open it now. This post is a year old already but it still has its mass appeal.

I have a good friend who always says that if we needed something from our circle of friends all we have to do is ask, because friends are not mind-readers, we have to express what we want. Wise words, right?

You’re a great friend to have Adrienne, I hope we can be friends as well.

124 Adrienne
October 21, 2012 at 8:12 PM

Hi Jena,

This is over a year old now, you are right about that.

I totally agree and that’s what I have really come to love about the blogging community Jena. We aren’t mind readers so if we do need help then these are the people we should reach out to. For those that I’ve connected with really well I’m always eager to do what I can if they need me. I love helping others.

I do hope that you and I can be friends Jena, I would love that. So, let’s see what we can’t do about that okay!

Enjoy your week.
