How To Install A YouTube Widget On Your Blog

by Adrienne Smith on March 1, 2012

How To Install A YouTube Widget On Your BlogI believe it would be pretty safe to say that the majority of people online today love to watch videos.  I find them entertaining and educational.  It’s really the best way for me to learn when I’m able to watch someone literally walk me through exactly what I need to do.

If would be safe to say that when we all think of videos today, YouTube is where we turn.  If you want to know how to do something, go to YouTube.

Even when you are searching for something you want to know on Google, a good bit of the time a YouTube video is going to show up in your search results.  Wonder why that is? People love videos which is why it’s extremely important that you start incorporating videos into your marketing strategy today.

Do you remember back in January when I had Paul Wolf write a guest post for me?  I wanted to incorporate more videos but didn’t know how to find what my target audience wanted to learn.  Well he definitely came to the rescue and I’m sure you’ll find his answer extremely helpful as well.  Be sure and read his post if you haven’t already, “How Bloggers and Content Marketers Can Generate Unlimited Video Ideas“.

Here are some statistics you might find very interesting that will hopefully help convince you that it’s time to get started if you haven’t already.

  • over 35 hours of footage is uploaded every minute
  • in 2010 13 million hours of footage was uploaded
  • over 3 billion video views per day
  • the 2nd largest search enginge
  • 3rd most visited website
  • average visitor spends over 15 minutes each day watching videos
  • the age range is between 18-54

Video is becoming more and more popular as the years go by so if you aren’t already using this in your marketing methods, I sure hope you’ll consider starting soon.

Now we definitely want people to subscribe to our YouTube channel so that we can also start building up our following there just like we do on some of the other social networking sites.  So in this video I’m going to show you how you can install a YouTube widget on your blog without adding any plug-ins.

Barry’s Video Challenge

This was the first installment of Barry Well’s video challenge so if you are eager to get started with making videos why don’t you join us. He’s giving away some great prizes as incentive so you can read more about what he’s looking for over at his post “An Internet Marketing Video Challenge and Everyone Is Invited“.

I’ll be posting a video every Thursday of this month so maybe you can help me with the topics.  Is there anything you’d like to learn that you haven’t located on a video tutorial yet?  Or maybe you’ve found a few but still didn’t understand fully.  Why don’t you help me come up with topics for my three remaining videos and we’ll both win right!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts about topics you would like to learn and videos I can create for you.

See you all soon in the comment section and please don’t forget to share this post with your friends… It’s always greatly appreciated!

Hi Adrienne,

Well believe it or not, I finally made a video. I am part of a challenge that starts next week (see my link) and the first assignment was to shoot a video and tell why we wanted to be a part of the challenge. I was terrified, but I did it!

I know that Video Marketing is here to stay and I need to get on board. I would like to see you create a video showing how to make a video with a powerpoint presentation (or something similar) as the focus, instead of a person (me). Can you do something like that?

It will take me awhile to get as comfortable as you in front of the camera. Baby steps, right?!

Hi Jamella,

Oh my goodness you did? Well congratulations girl, I’m so very proud of you. So you are part of a challenge too? I take it it isn’t all shooting videos? I can’t wait to see it but I’ll be by your place today to read your post.

How to make a PowerPoint presentation. Girl, you are in luck because that’s the video series Barry is actually doing so I don’t want to step on his toes for this particular challenge but you can watch his video here and he shows you just how to do exactly that. So looks like you don’t even have to wait on this one. :-)

Thanks for the suggestion and I might shoot one down the road. Baby steps is the way to go but at least you’re taking those steps. I promise you you’ll look back on this experience and kick yourself in the rear that you didn’t do this sooner. One step at a time right!

Thanks for sharing this Jamella and have a fabulous day!

Adrienne, I’m so excited you’ll be posting a video every week in March! I love your videos because they are helpful and because I adore hearing your sweet accent.

One of the these days your wise advice to start putting videos on my blog is going to sink in and I’ll take the plunge. It’s actually one of my goals for 2012 so watch out! ;)

Have a grateful day!

Hi Chrysta,

Ah thanks Chrysta and I’m so happy you enjoy watching my videos and hearing me speak. Who would have thought! :-)

You would be fabulous on video because if you think people can relate to you now, they will really be able to relate to you if they see you just chatting with them about a topic. Or maybe giving some love to Kaylo. I shot a video of Kayla when I first got her and it’s been quite the popular one. By the way, I’ve had her four years today so we’re celebrating an anniversary today!

Look forward to seeing those soon but in the meantime, you just keep doing what you’re doing because it works well for you my dear.

Have a blessed day!

Adrienne, your video are so helpful, thanks! But I’m afraid I’m still a couple of steps upstream: I’ve got a nice digital camera and can make short videos on it but when it comes to pulling it all together like you do…well, I have no idea! Even the simplest video that just shows a computer screen, well, I just don’t know how that’s done! I guess I need to buy all sorts of equipment and learn how to use it. Where do I start? What sort of equipment should I get? Because opening a user account on YouTube seems pretty useless if I don’t even know how to do a proper video, technically speaking…As far as ideas for videos, quite frankly that’s not a problem: living in Italy as I do, I come across all sorts of things I’d love to share, like besides the snow in Rome which I did recently share with photographs I took – did try to include one very short video but I think it got stuck and went dead/inactive within days and I have no idea why – btw, I don’t use WordPress but Blogger, and it would be nice to get advice also for Blogger newbies…

As always, thanks Adrienne for the wonderful help you so generously give out!

Hi Claude,

I’m glad my videos are helpful so thanks for sharing that with me.

Be sure and check out my free training site and I have a section on videos. If you have a PC you can edit your video in Windows Movie Maker and I walk you through exactly what to do. If you’re on a Mac I believe their free program is called iMovie. Don’t quote me on that but it comes on most computers or you can download the program for free. I believe they are quite similar to use.

The tutorial video that I did is done with Camtastia and you can actually use it free for 30 days before purchasing it. I show you how to use that program as will on my site.

You don’t need a lot of fancy equipment and you can use your digital camera to shoot short videos if you want. Just put them together like I suggested, upload them to YouTube and you are done.

I believe uploading a video on Blogger is quite similar to WordPress because I just paste the embed code in my posts and that’s all you have to do on Blogger as well. But if you get started and run into any problems you know you can give me a shout and I’ll help you.

Thanks Claude for sharing this and you have a beautiful day okay! See you soon.

Adrienne,

I love it! I’ve posted the same widget on my blog. More branding and exposure. And I love your idea of asking what people want to see if your video of the week. hmmm….I think I’m seeing a challenge rise in myself to follow your lead. I’m a little competitive that way.

Ok now I have a tip for you to get more subscribers. You can friend up to 28 people an hour on Youtube. So I befriend 25. You can do this for as many hours a day as you want. I have this part outsourced. She does 4 hours a day 2-3 times a week. That’s 100 new friends a day! Some will subscribe. But here’s the cool part. Focus on the friends first, then let the rest come by naturally.

Hey Ken,

Oh goodie you already have it but I’m not surprised. I guess I could have just asked you right!

So, do you see a challenge coming your way? Well, Barry had one last year and it went well but he didn’t give everyone enough notice so this year he did although I’m not giving my friends much notice. I’m not big on challenges but when it’s from my friends I can’t help myself. So since I do have to do three more videos for this, why not just ask what you want to see right! Kill two birds with one stone (figure of speech only)! lol…

I hate the way that YouTube has changed their friend/subscriber function. I had gosh, thousands of friends on YouTube already and I had gotten to the point that I was letting them come to me. But that’s a good idea so thanks for sharing that Ken, always appreciate great advice.

Have a fabulous day my friend… :-)

Hi Pauline,

You need to have a conversation with Dawn Kay Pauline.. She felt the exact same way you did but dove in anyway and now it’s like second nature to her. Heck, I was the exact same way, scared to death. Do I look like I felt that way in the beginning? That’s what happens. It’s just like blogging and hitting that publish button for the first time and freaking out thinking what will others say. Just do it, that’s the motto because you do not want to be left behind young lady.

Visit my training site and the video section. I’ll show you how you can create a video without getting in front of the camera. Do a few of those first and get comfortable and then dive in. You just need to start.

Thanks Pauline and you have a great day as well.

Hi Adrienne,!
How comfortable, time-wasting avoiding, and mind irritation-killer is to learn from a video, like the one you give us here. It would take a lot of time for me to do by myself to set up this if i decided to do so, but with a video like this one, i lay down in my bed, watch the PC screen, cover my feet with a blanket, and let you run me into what i need, so relaxing! And what is the best, i get exactly what i need in images and sound.

Thanks a lot,
Ángel.

Yes, I know about the challenge and I decided to participate. Not that I am new at making videos, but they take time and I always put them in the background of the things I’ve got to do. So, I decided to participate in Barry’s challenge to make me DO IT!

As a matter of fact, I am helping a newbie to do some basic blogging steps so I am using this challenge to help her. So, that killing two birds with one stone :)

I didn’t even know about YouTube Cool! I want that. I’m about to purchase the latest Flip and will do

P.S.
By the way, I wanted to let you know “the queen of the blog commenting” that you’ve got someone tailing you really, really close and that’s Hajra! Everywhere I go you both have been :) So, I thought, well, if I can beat those two, I’ll be doing pretty well with comments on other blogs :) :)

I saw your video Sylviane but you didn’t have any comment section on your post. What gives? Girl, you always want to give your readers an opportunity to comment but you did a great job with the Clickbank links. I watched it yesterday and I wanted to tell you that you did a great job.

That’s great that you’re helping a newbie out at the same time. See, that’s how this all comes together. Good to hear.

That’s what I use Sylviane, a Flip Camcorder and mine is three years old so it’s a great little investment. So easy to use and upload your videos.

Ah the lovely Hajra. I’m glad she’s everywhere because she is such a delight. She makes me smile all the darn time. So, jump on in Sylviane and let’s get going. I have no doubt you’ll be trailing right behind us now. :-)

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the tutorial.

I know that the first thing people will tell you is to install yet another plug-in. Oh sure, it’s just a matter of uploading and activating but why use them if they aren’t necessary right! You’ve got to eventually take that plunge and learn how to copy and paste a little code. It’s such a great feeling when you know you’ve done something you thought before was over your head.

I appreciate your comment Tara, thanks!

For your personal blog, don’t you think your audience would really connect with you even more if they felt that you were talking to them like an old friend just sitting there having a cup of coffee? Maybe just share what’s on your mind and those types of videos really aren’t that complicated to do. Not unless you want to make them that way but we would all love to see you up close and personal. That is, when you’re ready.

Thanks for the support Hajra, it’s greatly appreciated. Glad you enjoyed this one even if you aren’t making videos yet. You’ll be very prepared when you do right! :-)

Ah thanks, I’ve been at this for awhile and I’ve actually deleted a LOT… You know, programs I’m no longer associated with or products I no longer support. That kind of thing so at one point I almost had around 300. Just trying to concentrate more now on quality verses quantity although I do intend to upload more on a regular basis this year. I’ve been doing just that too.

I know the feeling, I’ll have to rearrange mine as well but I leave all of that for the weekends.

Hi Adrienne,

You always create excellent videos and this one is something i will make use of straight away, well once I’ve updated the Video Blog Challenge page. You’re so right about plugins slowing our blogs down so it’s really handy to know about widgets that work in this way :)

I think the additional beauty is that it doesn’t take our visitors away from our blogs and that’s always a bonus.

You’re right in what you say about using video to market ourselves and bring traffic to our posts and pages. The thing is once we have started creating them they get easier every time and when placed on YouTube they’re there for everyone forever more.

Only last week i pointed a new (ish) blogger to one of Kathy Dobson’s videos that she submitted to my last video challenge so he could move the text from the images on his post, he came back to me and said that he had been trying to correct it for some time and just couldn’t figure it out. I now have another regular reader and so does Kathy :D

Thanks for telling people about my current challenge Adrienne and giving them a nudge to take it up. I’ve been on mission for the last 2 weeks to get people creating videos for this challenge and have had some good responses. I’m really excited that some people are giving it a go for the very first time and just getting over their fear.

As you pointed out to Pauline: Dawn Kay had a fear of hearing her own voice and I know it held her back for ages. Then her kids, bless them, recorded their voices and gave her a nudge saying “come on mum if we can do it so can you”. We then started nudging her throughout the Learn With Sally coaching to co-host a webinar and overcome the fear factor, which she done and she’s started taking off like you wouldn’t believe.

I’ve also created a Facebook Fan page for the challenge so if anyone has any concerns they can mention them in there and we’ll assist and encourage.

Anyway Adrienne I’ve rabbited on long enough, nearly another post there ;)

Thanks again Adrienne,

Respect and Regards,
Barry

Hey Barry,

Thank you, I wasn’t sure which video I was going to do first so I thought I found this pretty cool so I’m sure others will as well. Thanks for adding me to the page and I’ll continue to check on it to see what others are posting.

That’s what I decided I liked about this widget the most. It actually doesn’t take your visitors away from your blog at all. Now if they would just let us customize it a bit more I’d really be happy. :-)

I’m happy to see that Sylviane has done a video and I’m really hoping to get Chrysta to do one soon. My friend Jamella did her first one for another challenge she’s participating in so now we need to get Pauline on the bandwagon as well. Like Dawn, once you do it it does get easier although at the time it seems like it won’t. People tell us we’re pros now but we both started in the exact same place.

I hope people will come check out your Facebook Fan Page if they have anymore questions or concerns. We are both here to help as well and continue to encourage others to participate.

Thanks Barry and always enjoy your comments. Now, off to finish commenting my friend! :-)

Ok, I’ll admit I’m not one of those people who love video. If I have a choice between reading or watching, I’ll read every time… unless it’s a cute cat doing something hilarious :)

BUT! I will say that the one thing I find video indispensable for is exactly what you just did – teaching. There is nothing better than going to Google typing in “how to…” and getting a bunch of instructional videos that just show you how to make something work. Your video was informative and easy to follow, both awesome things that I’ll take more of any day of the week.

Thanks for taking time to create that and share your know-how.

I’m glad you do enjoy the training videos because what better way to learn right! I agree with you, when I want to learn something I go to Google and I’ll definitely click on the videos before the posts because I want someone to walk me through how to do whatever it is I want to learn.

Very informative post, Adrienne!

This will definitely be useful for me when I reconvene with making my videos. I’ve taken a brief hiatus from doing them until I get finish with one of my other writing projects, but as soon as one of them get completed; I’ll definitely be jumping back into the game.

It still amazes me how huge YouTube has gotten. I was going through the other day looking at some videos, and found it incredible of what some folks are actually uploading and getting the most views for.

It just goes to show that there’s a market for what ever we have to offer. We simply need to figure out how to get people on our channel to watch it.

Whenever I do resume, I will definitely think outside the box this time. Hopefully it won’t be long.

Thanks for all you help with this. Great stuff!

Hi Deeone,

I know you’re a busy guy but here’s the deal. Just like blog posts you have to stay consistent with uploading videos too in order to keep your subscribers eager to hang around for more. I know, I know… When I heard this from Paul I was like are you kidding me? But it’s true and since video is so huge and only exploding from here we all have to step up and take notice right. So at least posting once a week is a very good start which is what Barry’s challenge has done and I will admit, I’m only two weeks behind but off to a good start this year.

I agree Deeone, it is huge which goes to show you why video is so popular.

You can go back to the basics and just start with keyword research. Find out what people are searching for and then when you head over to Google to see how many views those terms are getting, do the same on YouTube. One tip I’ve learned is you want other videos already about that topic because although YouTube is one of the largest search engines too, people will mostly search on Google first. Stay within a good keyword range and then optimize that video like you would a blog post and that will really help get more attention to your videos. When you’re ready to jump back in that is. :-)

Thanks Deeone, always appreciate your comments. They’re the best!

Well hello Adrienne, great post and something I had not even considered looking for in youtube, it is surprising just how many sites have these unpublicised resources that we can use to build a strong community around all that we do to help others, will get this planned in and added pronto to my blogs.

Thanks once again.

Hey Igor,

Are you participating in the challenge? I haven’t had time to stop by Barry’s page today but will be sure and do that soon.

Glad that I was able to introduce something to you that you weren’t aware of. I love it when I stumble upon real gems like this too and glad you’re going to install it over at your place.

I appreciate the comment and thanks for stopping by today! Always a pleasure to hear from you.

p.s.
Will you be making a short video intro for all your videos to brand them?

Hi Annie,

Aha, gotcha didn’t I! Yeah, I probably put a lot more into this then I should since it’s a video about installing a widget but wanted to be sure and point out why you want more subscribers on your channel. They’ll be the first ones to see your new videos and we all want that just like when people subscribe to our RSS feeds. Why not just make it much more convenient for them right!

I branded my intro’s on my free training site and I’ve thought about it but the more I learn about videos the more I understand that you have to catch people’s eye within the first 5 seconds and tell them what your video is about or you’ve lost them. Doing an intro like that although it is branding may turn some people away that have never watched any of my videos before. So it’s a catch 22 for me at the moment. I do like them though and I personally will stick around. I do want to make them more fun so I’m going to see what I can’t do about that.

I love how you’ve edited yours. You’ve done such a fabulous job and I’m so very proud of you so here’s my question to you! What software are you using for editing your videos? Did you go purchase one or are you using a free one! Your turn to help me out! :-)

Adrienne,
i was going to ask you if you thought my intros were too long. I tried to make them like documentaries , educational and that’s how i justify the longer videos. Not sure yet.

Program to edit. I tried a bunch of free stuff and i found them buggy and limiting so i opted with sony vegas pro 10 which is kind of pricey. i bought mine used fo 300 bucks. But….It does a lot maybe too much. we all use it here as a family. I like it a lot and it’s intuitive but there is a learning curve.

I might recomend a sclaed down version of it for you from sony vegas called “sony vegas movie or home”. it is around 50 bucks but i think you can download a free trial Here is a link to the product you might want to try. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudiohd . It has transitions and you can add text in between scenes and music and all that good stuff. Again, it’s free to try for 30 days. what have you got to lose? If you like it you can do a tutorial on it since it’s very affordable too.

Hi Annie,

I actually love your intro myself, that’s the dilemma. I guess it also may depend on what niche you’re in. I’m going through a video course right now to help me improve my videos so I can see their point of keeping people’s attention. But a lot of theirs have the intro as well but it’s not long at all. For your video series though and for someone just finding your information, it’s good for them to know why you are doing this so that’s why I love your intro.

I can’t remember which one I used for the video loop on my training site. I used some expensive program’s 30 day trial to create that because I wanted to test the program and I must admit, I didn’t see a lot of bells and whistles on it for the money they were asking. I figured it would do a whole lot more but for the life of me I can’t remember which one it is now. It was almost two years ago which is why it’s slipping my mind.

I will definitely test out that trial for sure. I love to be able to use programs before deciding to buy. Especially when they are pricey so thank you for that. I would like to do a few more things to my videos so I’m going to have to get some type of program. The ones they recommend in the course or way over my head but they do say you can use any of them because they all pretty much do the same things. I’m not going to get real fancy but I do want to step it up a notch.

Thanks Annie for your advice, I really appreciate it. So, see ya soon!

My goodness Adrienne You Rock my friend. Just posted this today and look at all your comments! It is like bees on honey! Social proof here that you are a great leader my friend!

Thank you for making this so clear to me. It is like I have ADHD when it comes to a simple technical issue like a plug in. This is an awesome blog. I have taken a 30 day video challenge in the past and it really gets you out of your shell. I highly suggest it to anyone. That said, it helped me so much when creating my opt-in on my blog. Practice makes perfect.

I also learned along the way from my husband, David Merrill, that his business increased so much because he does so many videos. Video’s get your followers so up close and personal with you, it works so well.
Thanks for the reminder, I have been slacking off in the video department.

Ah thank you Donna, that really means a lot to me. I know that I don’t view myself like everyone else so it’s really nice to hear what people think of not only me but my content. Just glad people are enjoying it and finding it helpful.

Technical issues can scare the best of us Donna. I know I was very intimidated by it when I first came on even though I do love to learn. I just didn’t understand a lot of it and most people didn’t take the time to explain or actually walk you through. But just like you putting up your opt-in box, once you do a few of those you “get it” right! What a fabulous feeling for we non techies, what an accomplishment.

That’s great that your husband is doing videos and getting a lot of views. I think it’s great to change them around and just continue to share with your subscribers information they can find useful.

Thanks Donna, really appreciate your comment and thanks for sharing this with me.

Sure hope you’re enjoying your day!

Hi Stephen,

Thank you Stephen and you haven’t started doing videos yet! Well we need to fix that right now.

The initial first couple are the hardest but trust me, you’ll get over that very quickly.

There are so many plug-ins you can use for embedding video but all I do is grab the code YouTube provides and paste it into my post. Tada… I’m done and it’s just that easy.

Thanks for that tip for another video Stephen and hope you’ll consider starting soon. Give me a shout if you need any help.

Is it expensive and is it easy to customize (headers, sidebar etc). Is it compatible with plugins. Sorry for the questions – I tried many free themes and lost a lot of my work. I need a stable and flexible one.

I don’t believe it’s expensive but the single license runs $87 and the developer’s license runs $167. That just means you can add the theme to as many blogs as you want plus you can remove the footer with the Thesis advertisement.

I would say with anything else there is a learning curve but I customized my theme myself. It took me awhile to figure it out by going to their forum and asking questions and Googling some of the things I wanted to do on my blog. I had my header created for me and it’s so easy to upload. With their latest version, it’s so much easier to customize things on your blog then it was when I first got it about three years ago. You can also pay people to do it for you if you prefer or you can purchase customized themes as well.

A lot of the free themes aren’t compatible with a good many plug-ins which is why it’s always best to go the paid theme if you are really here to build a serious business. You can’t customize a free theme which is the reason it’s free.

Hope that helped Latha. :-)

Reply

69 Latha March 4, 2012 at 11:06 PM

It is a lot for me. I guess I have to start somewhere. Have you tried studio press? I am trying to shortlist between thesis and this.
Which is more easier to customize (I might not be able to afford the child themes – also cant code).
Should I send you a personal email instead – dont want to fill your site with comments. Barry Wells has been helping me quite a bit, but I am very dumb with code and want something which is easy to add all the nice plugins and social buttons and has i built seo.

Thesis is the only paid theme I’ve ever used so I can say no to everything else. I don’t believe Studio Press was around with I bought this one. You’ll just have to do your own researching on that I’m afraid Latha.

I don’t know code but from what I’ve learned since being online. With Thesis you don’t have to know code unless you want to customize it in a special way and then you can always hire someone to tweak your site. I recommend Brankica Underwood for that and she’s very reasonably priced.

Adding plug-ins is the same thing on a free site accept they work with Thesis where some plug-ins aren’t compatible with free themes. That’s about all I know on that end.

Loved the video Adrienne!

I just about love everything you put on your blog and this was wonderful!

I know I have to overcome the fear of doing my own video someday, and Barry’s challenge does sound wonderful. But, I am midways to doing up my writing blog and just working towards that presently. I guess, I would be there and ready for the next such challenge!

YouTube sure has come up in a big way as per the stats stated, something I never really knew! And though I do use it often while looking out for ‘How-to’ tutorials, I wonder how do we really know how to make the videos that are most sought after. Perhaps that can be one of your coming topics :)

While I do understand that its almost similar to a keyword researched article, but while writing a blog post is easier as we are mainly writing the things down, but how do you make an interesting enough video with the topic other than the main ‘How-to’s’?

Nevertheless, for starters, I am jumping right in and subscribing to your YouTube channel to learn more tips from you, and bookmarking this page to use the widget on my blogs, once I start doing the videos :)

Thanks so much for this wonderful piece of information :)

Ah thanks Harleena, so happy to hear that!

I know you don’t do videos and for those that don’t these types of post may not be of interest. But I’m really hoping that you’ll finally start to realize the direction that video is going. So here is a question I have for you.

If video heads in the direction they are predicting and 90% of the people online would prefer watching videos, don’t you think that for your writing career it would only benefit you to start learning how to do videos now? You don’t have to get in front of the camera when doing videos and you can put the content you write in a PowerPoint presentation and still give them the same information. People like to view content differently so be sure and cater to all of your prospects and clients needs. Something to think about right!

I almost did my first video on that very topic Harleena but not many people are searching for that term. They certainly aren’t searching in video format but I wanted to do it and since you just shared with me that you’d like to know the answer I just might have to add it back to my list. Thanks for telling me what you’d like to know.

I also appreciate you subscribing to my channel. Hope you find some goodies over there. :-)

Thank you so much for your comment, you know I always enjoy hearing from you. Have a great weekend.

You are absolutely right Adrienne!

With the way YouTube is catching up, just about everyone IS doing videos, so we can’t really be left far behind! Have to start sooner or later!

And yes, we needn’t come in-front of the camera if we are the shy kinds, instead a lot can be behind the scenes as well. Yes, people do grasp better when they see things, rather than read long boring pages of content (sometimes!)

I guess I just have to let go one day and get down to learning all about it! I do need to take out that kind of free time with nothing else on my mind and sit with YouTube and everything it has in store!

Thanks for the inspiration and motivation :)

What I would like to know, is if I plant a widget, can I select a channel. You know like on TV. I don’t want my “Tony Bou” like motorcycle videos of myself, showing up along side of my teaching “HTML” tech videos. I would like to separate the two. I bet you can, I just have not had the time to go check out the “API” to see what you can do. Perhaps you can answer this question?

What you want to do is create different channels. One for your business, one for pleasure, etc. Then you would add that channel ID to your widget and they will go to that particular channel. Make sense? It’s just like having different blogs for different content.

Did that help?

Hi Julie,

Ah, happy to hear that so thanks for letting me know.

So here is the deal with videos. They are predicting by 2013 that 90% of the people online would prefer seeing their content in video form. So let’s say that happens as predicted. You are going to be left in the cold if you haven’t been doing videos all this time. People like to view content differently and even if that means sharing your blog posts in video form whether it’s through pictures telling the story, a slide show or a how to tutorial. For those who don’t want to read your posts can now still get the same information but in video form. Make sense!

So, hope you’ll change your mind and start realizing that they can only benefit you as time goes by. I think the more you do, the more you’ll get comfortable and the more you’ll enjoy them. :-)

Thanks Julie and I appreciate that. You know I’m here if you ever have any questions. Have a great weekend yourself.

All though I have known that video is exploding everywhere, my mind boggled just a bit at seeing some of the stats you shared about how much video is in demand. Seriously, 35 hours uploaded per minute!! Wow! That says it all right there!

Hey Cat,

I wish we could customize that little box Cat, that would be ideal. It’s not the most attractive thing but it will make it very convenient for people to subscribe without leaving your blog. And that my friend is what we all are after. :-)

Oh goodie, so glad you enjoy my videos and are excited about having one each week. I was going to step up my game with doing more videos anyway and I’ve done 8 so far this year, not quite 1 a week but I’m doing a few more that I might not be including in a blog post. Testing some things out ya know!

Glad my videos have been helpful Cat and I enjoy someone walking me through what I need to do.

Those stats blew me away too and with Paul’s statistics he gave us back in January that they are only going to continue to grow. Get with those videos girl. We are NOT going to be left behind.

Thanks Cat as always for your comments, thoughts and for just stopping by and saying Hi! Always a pleasure to see you!

Yeah, that would be even better if we could make some little tweaks to the box. I bet you something will roll out pretty soon along those lines.

I definitely agree with you that it’s important to give people the opportunity to connect in as many ways as possible with as few chances to “get lost” in the ADD of the net along the way. lol

I need to do some more videos. I have been working so diligently on some content for the next month or so’s blog in addition to making some huge progress in my primary business. I plan to map out some video style content to multi-format myself better. I see that this is an area I truly need to focus some attention on.

Too bad I haven’t worked out my Ganesh act yet. lol I’ve been working on it but need to get me a few more functional arms if you know what I mean!

I need some help with outsourcing…this is abundantly clear to me. I tried someone recently who made some serious tactical errors in the social media sharing department and I am fixing that this week…guess I need to take another stab at this so I can make some more time for the pertinant “to-do’s!”

Great stuff, Adrienne. I followed this & added the widget to my blog as well. Course I smiled big when you said “I grabbed a text widget and “drug” it over here…” Folks just don’t say “drug” around here with the same meaning as yours. lol

lol… I’m chuckling over here Mitch. Thank goodness at least I showed them what “drug” meant right! I know, forgive me. It’s that Texas in me and our terms that get me every darn time. :-) That’s just too funny!

Glad you got it installed okay though and you hopefully could relate!

Adrienne, aloha. You do such a terrific job with your videos, Adrienne. They are always enlightening and entertaining with a clear message.

So, my only question is this. Since every Thursday will be movies over at your place, will you be serving popcorn?

Congrats to you for picking up this challenge, Adrienne. If I think of a topic, I will send you a comment.

Wishing you a week as radiant as your smile. Aloha. Janet

Ah yes, bring the popcorn and let’s get down to business. Sure hope it won’t be long enough to get you through an entire bag. lol…

Glad you enjoyed it and stay tuned for more. You’ve definitely got 3 more weeks from me for sure.

Hey Adrienne !
The best part about this is that you showed us step by step and listening to you explain it is like sitting with a friend and having them talk you through it instead of some guy you don’t know. I haven’t looked into many tutorials but I have started just comingg to your New Facebook page! I have found so many great videos there. If I think of any I will let you know!. I would be happy to help you come up with ideas :)) But, Adrienne, baby I did it ! I had to come back to leave a comment I got SO INTO doing this.. But as we speak, there is a “Youtube button” on my Blog ! I’m so proud lol.. I just wanted to say in case others try it, I had trouble with the one button. The one you have which btw, I like the best :( That one would not work for me and I did read others having the same prob. So if others try this , you aren’t alone if it gives you trouble, don’t sweat it.. try another button.. But I really like the one I have I took the heart one! (cute) Thank you so much for helping me do this Adrienne couldn’t have done it without ya! HUGS!, Colleen :)

Hi Colleen,

I’m so happy to hear that Colleen and that I’m easy to follow along. See, it’s not that hard when someone just shows you how to do it. I’m so very proud of you.

Maybe it’s not compatible with your free theme Colleen which some aren’t I’m afraid. But I’m somewhat surprised though because theirs is set up on a blogger blog which is free. Thanks for letting me know though. Interesting but I like yours (just popped over to take a look) because it blends in with your theme.

Congratulations and glad you got that set up.

Have a great week Colleen.

Hi Adrienne,

This is very as informative as your any other video is. As you taught me last time that I should start my video , I think I have started working on it. I was a little busy with my book. Now that it is almost in the final stages, I can shift my attention to videos now :).
For preparation, I got my hair cut and I look better than before ;) LOL.
Thanks for this awesome video and all the inspiration :). Have a great day .

Congratulations for getting that WordPress blog all set up. I’m so excited for you. What happened to your other site? Oh no…

Head over to my training site and go to the social media section and then videos. Go through that section and that will help you understand about videos and possibly where you want to start. Sound good!

Thanks Lenia and have a wonderful weekend.

Hey Adrienne,

Thanks for the awesome post!

I was planning to use some other medium for my next post (I did Prezi presentation for a change and it worked great) and I was planning to make a video (I am still unsure what my video should be about). This will definitely help me (If I am able to make a good one, I will continue to make videos because right now, I am kind of tired with writing all the stuff :D).

Ooh, and thanks for reminding me about Barry’s challenge. I really want to try that (Hope I can!).

I am still kind of nervous with my voice and stuff (I did do a video, but that was 1-2 years back). Hope I can do another one :D

Thanks for the post and for the inspiration!

Hi Jeevan,

You are most welcome my friend, glad you found it handy. :-)

You have to get over the initial hump with videos Jeevan. It’s going to be uncomfortable at first but you’ll do fine. I have no doubt about it. Check out Paul’s post for ideas and then jump on in. It will be fun and I do hope you’ll join Barry’s challenge. It ends on the 29th so you still have time. Would love to have you and it’s a great way to get people out of their comfort zones.

Hope we’ll see one from you soon and thank you for your kind words.

Have a fabulous day Jeevan… :-)

Hey Adrienne!

I had no idea there was even a YouTube Widget that could be installed. I think the widget is much more personable than than the YouTube icon that most marketers have in the sidebar. Some of the widgets look pretty neat but I do like the one with the avatar picture.

Thanks for introducing this to us and I will get this installed shortly.

Take care!

Thanks for the video. I chose to add the red subscribe on “youtube banner”. Didn’t like the look of the widget code, as it’s not matching my blog. LOL. Google needs to make it look more attractive.

I agree with you Spencer, it’s not the most attractive thing I’ve ever seen. Hopefully they’ll improve the coding on that in the near future. I have a feeling the banner you went with works great.
